I'm finally getting closer (I think) to Strawberry Astronaut by JTJM. It has been a while since I've been able to vape it as I can't afford to buy commercial juice and DiY stuff at the same time. Especially when a bottle is about ~$21 with shipping factored in.
Is anyone out there also familiar with this flavor? Need someone to give it a mix with a fresher memory of it. I'll post the exact recipe when I get home in the morning, but if memory serves me well it is:
Double checked my recipe, these are correct.
-
TFA Strawberry - 10%
-
TFA Apricot - 3-4% (Depending on how strong you want that Apricot note to be).
-
TFA Mango - 1%
Mixed at 30/70 VG 3mg Nic.
Shake and Vape.
I haven't tried putting any Sweetner or Ethyl Maltol in it as I try to avoid them as much as possible, but EM may actually fit in here somewhere.
I've played around with this before. I knew it was TFA Strawberry because it reminded me of Nana Cream and I just know the flavor of it by now. For the apricot I was using CAP, which wasn't right. I tried probably 3 or 4 versions like this, and then I forgot all about it. I've since starting working on it for a few weeks when I got around to ordering TFA's Apricot. This is the Apricot used, I'm almost 100% sure of it.
I tried multiple versions with dragonfruit instead of mango, but it was bringing out too much flavor from the apricot, so I ditched that and gave TFA Mango a random try. This feels a lot closer to me (remember, my memory of Strawberry Astronaut maybe be askew). The mango seems to tame the apricot, but simultaneously adding a little... bite?
So please, if anyone could try this and let me know if this is close I will be eternally grateful. I should bite the bullet and buy a bottle, but I have to work with what I have for the moment.
Thanks for your time and I will add this to the clone thread if it is close for others if they try it.
Strawberry astronaut used to be my jam. I think I have a couple ml of it left to do a blind taste test. Will order TFA Apricot and report back with my impressions.
Great, thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure this is close. The apricot may still be a tad pronouned, but either way, it's a great tasting mix.
Alright, after spending a few days with this mix and checking it against the real deal, my final verdict is...
Delicious, but not a perfect clone. The tartness of real SA is not present in your recipe, but short of that, I think you're absolutely right about which Strawberry and Apricot flavors they use. I'm not totally sold on the idea that there's TFA Mango in the real deal, but for what it's worth I'm already on my second bottle of your recipe. Good work and thanks for sharing!
Awesome, I'm excited to hear some feedback from someone who's tried the original. I agree, the Mango probably isn't in the original, but as you said, I'm pretty confident in Strawberry and Apricot. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and grab a bottle to do some real side by sides to hone it in a little closer.
I'm glad you like it though, and thanks again for the feedback, that helps a lot! :)
Thanks. Order comes in tomorrow.
Awesome, looking forward to hearing back!
will report back.
love seeing those "simple" mixes pop up from time to time. i am new to this so it is a bit easier for me to mix stuff like this.
sounds very good and i can see it being vaped on a nice fall / autumn day, the sun sets behind the pond and the wind slowly blows through the leaves and you get that fuzzy feeling inside. the days get shorter and colder and the world is covered in colorful beauty.
damn i want to vape this stuff now
Absolutely! This is very simple, but is my favorite mix to date (not to toot my own horn). I'm a huge fruit junky because they don't drop in taste for me like sweet recipes do. I've been vaping this for the past two days and zero fatigue (yet!).
So far, it has paired sooooooo very well with Welch's Sparkling Grape Soda. It's an amazing combo for whatever reason haha.
Ah damn, turns out I have CAP Apricot, not TFA. Was looking forward to this.
I know the struggle lol. Had only CAP for the longest time.
Just made my first DIY order with a few CAP flavors... is there any major reason you couldn't sub in a CAP flavor?
Well I don't believe you could sub in CAP Sweet Strawberry nor Apricot as both of those are quite different from their TFA counterparts. This doesn't mean you can't try it! By all means experiment with this and see if they will. I did try CAP Apricot as mentioned in the post and it didn't turn out well. I haven't tried CAP's Mango yet, but it may be able to sub in for TFA's. Just play around with it a bit!
I'll be mixing this later today. Thanks for the recipe
Not a problem! Please report back.
mixed this up , dropped the apricot to 3%. Nana Cream is my current ADV this is fairly similar profile, really good shake and vape. Will be mixing a large batch shortly. Thanks Again
I'm no expert but strawberry astro by jtjm is my adv for 3 years running and I'm almost positive he uses sweet cream to tame down that apricot. I cant wait to try this myself I just not sure if I want to have all those chems laying around with 2.5 yr old twins!! I would buy 120 ml from you if its a decent price and will report back with the differences. Hell I vaped so much of SAstro I can tell you how long its been steeped on first hit lol
I'll mix up 10ml tonight when I get off work. I love simple shake and vape recipes. Thanks for sharing!
Never tried Strawberry Astronaut, but I mixed this. I totally feel you on the whole mango taming the apricot, because the apricot is a bit much in this mix. Granted, it's delicious. If anything, I will take the apricot down a notch while keeping the others at the same %. Thanks for the great recipe!
Mixed something similar not too long ago, but with a mix of strawberry/ripe strawberry and no mango. It was quite good.
No need for EM, I think the strawberry flavor already has loads of it.
True, I forgot that Strawberry has EM. Thanks for the heads up. It does seem sweet enough as-is. I'm sure there's a little something I'm missing, but it's definitely hitting the spot.
Maybe try some TFA sour at like 1%. In some of my mixes it seems to sweeten the strawberry a bit. Beware it can make it very candy like.
okay so:
order came in today
stuff is amazing. already love it!!!! thanks bro ♥
very nice, fruity vape without being on the aggressive side. mellow and sweet.
will see if i can play with it a bit. maybe drop the apricot to 3% and add something else. will see.
thanks again dude :D
I'm stoked you dig it!
If I were you (but I'm me and I might try this lol) I'd take apricot to 3.5% mango stays at 1 maybe 1.5% and maybe throw in a little dragonfruit at 0.5%. The Dragonfruit variations I tried were good, but not what I was looking for. You might dig it!
0.5% Meringue Tried this and its nice, to me it rounds off the corners of the fruits
Thought I would let you know what I think. I never had the original, but this one needs zero tweaking. Perfect. I almost always tweak posted recipes, but not this one. I would never have thought to combine these flavors. Shows had bad that I need to experiment with my flavors=)
One note, I only have Cap Sweet Mango, but I wonder whether TFA is much different. I'm getting low on Mango, and will be ordering one brand or the other soon. Have you compared the 2? I can say that I don't notice the flavor much if at all, but I think it probably should be just a subtle accent note.
Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much for the kind words and taking the time to post your thoughts! Did you go with 4% apricot? A few users said they dropped it to around 3%, but I like that sharp apricot note. That's why I changed it to 3-4%.
I have not had CAP Sweet Mango as I totally forgot to add it to my cart on my last order (I had full intentions on doing so lol), so I cannot compare the two. The mango is definitely a very subtle note, and as I said it's basically there to sort of tame the apricot a bit. Without it it's a little too in your face haha.
Thank you again! I'm glad you enjoy it. :)
I used 3% for the 60 mls that I have made so far. Next batch I will bump it up to 4. That will prob be the only tweak tho, as this is as close to an ADV for me as anything else.
I normally gravitate towards custards/creams/desserts. But sometimes that routine needs a break. Strawberry Astronaut has lifted to the top of ALL my fruity juices.
Apricot is one of my new flavors, and just an impulse buy. I'm now thinking of combos like peach, or banana. You never know, heck I wouldn't ever have thought of strawberry!
I'll have to give it an honest go at 3%. I've tried 3.5% it it was almost the same as 4% with a tad less potency as you would expect. Not to sound full of myself, but this is now one of my top fruit mixes as well. I love a good custard, but they tend to lose flavor for me rather quickly for whatever reason.
Speaking of combinations, I really want to give an orange + banana juice a shot. I like the drinks with that combo.
Just remembered last Strawberry/apricot mix I made had a bit of TFA jackfruit, probably 1 or 2%. You might wanna try that as jackfruit is pretty sweet.
