You spelled vegetable wrong.
Thank you for noticing this, that's hella embarrassing, out of the hundreds of people to see my label so far, either no one noticed or no one wanted to point it out.
I have a bit of Graphics Design experience and am an animator/illustrator/painter, and from my experience colors always end up darker when printed than on the screen. I'm thinking that background's edges are took dark and you'll start to lose your text near it. For Example, the "Natural and Artificial Flavoring" might get lost and hard to read. Easy fix would to either be: extend the BG or move the text closer toward the middle just by a hair
Also the text filter/style that you used to give your text a 3D appearance makes the text look really chalky. It might look awesome when printed so I could be wrong when I say it just doesn't do the label justice. The drop shadow probably wont even show up when printed on something that small just to let you know :P
The colors, I feel, need to relate to each other slightly better, such as, maybe have "Prestigious Clouds" the same color as the wax seal's red. It would make it pop. Doing these things might help it read better. I feel the style of the text and the seal should look like they are designed for each other and not look so separate.
The details I'm referring to are incredibly minor... It's your label, if you feel its just right, run with it! Over all the set up is pleasing to the eye and it is a very nice concept.
If you have a edit-able PSD file and want to see what I'm talking about, you can feel free to send it to me and I can tweak it. If you like how I tweak it feel free to use it, if you don't care to then its no biggie :) Honestly your customers probably wont even care about these little things I'm rambling on about. It's probably anyone who is in the art field that might have a fleeting thought about it
I also agree with botboy141, the VP PG is only needed once if its the same for all the dif nic levels
I appreciate your feedback, it's nice to get something from someone with a bit of experience in the field.
That being said, the text looks great and the drop shadow does appear when printed, but this is come off of my home printer with avery labels. I'm gonna order just one sheet of professional labels as the company I'm going to use doesn't have a minimum order (thank god) just to see how they look before I go full production mode.
I do agree with you as far as the text color and wax seal color goes, I'm gonna switch that up for sure.
I was rambling about very minor things lol, and honestly they are so minor I don't think the customers would even notice or care.
Yes, def get the test sheet before doing anything else, you'd be amazed at how different laser printers are compared to an inkjet and how different paper types and finishes can change the appearance. The colors may even vary from company to company too. I have a hobby of selling prints at comic conventions and the colors always even up different when I switch companies. It's very weird having the leftovers from the previous print job and showing customers "hey this one is slightly darker/bluer/more vibrant which one would you rather have?"
Perhaps even do several different variations on the one sheet to see how each turn out before making a final decision on the design
Cali Prop 9 warning is needed if you are selling.
Put 70/30 VG/PG in one place on the label instead of 3 times when only the nic level is changing.
Be aware of what finish you are using when utilizing a parchment style background like that, glossy or vinyl finishes look pretty meh to me.
I was told the Cali prop 9 warning only had to be on there if your company is based in Cali or your product is selling in cali, which I'm not currently. Though, I'll toss it on there regardless.
I'll figure something out for the repetitive 70/30 as well!
Also, I was planning on going with a matte finish :)
Thanks for the feedback!
How do you guys print high quality labels like this, do you have a certain type of printer and labels?
You can either get a printer like the kiaro and do it yourself or have a company do the printing for you (I'm going through planetlabel). You can also get blank sheets from somewhere like onlinelabel.com and print on an inkjet/laser printer but it isn't as nice in my experience as the first two options I listed.
I...I think it looks eerily similar to the one /u/paladiex just posted. Who was first?!!
It actually looks eerily similar to quite a few brands out there, new and old. I've had this design mocked up for..... 4 months according to my file history. I have yet to see a local brand that has this style though.
You did away with the date created?
slight differentiation between the font of the company and font of the flavor helps with contrast, you want the actual flavor name to stand out a bit more. The brand/company name font is typical slightly less handwritten/cursive style than the name of the product.
Edit: oh lol, I thought this was the same one /u/paladiex made
I like your label a lot. It does look similar to one that I just started working on but it seems pretty obvious to me that this is just a coincidence. I get the feeling that you want your brand to stand out more than the name of the juice itself. I really like your seal in the top left, it looks really well done. It could be just me, but do the droplets around the seal seem a little blurry to you? How well does the detail of your background show in the labels you are printing? I feel like the Instagram icon sort of pulls away from the overall feel of the label.
Overall I really like your label, I hope mine turns out this nice :)
Hey thanks!
It was most definitely a coincidence, but you'll find a lot of companies have the same style as us regardless. The droplets are blurry, but they don't show up blurry when printed, and I'm hoping it stays that way when I get them professionally printed. I had to blur them a bit to get rid of hard edges.
The Instagram icon is wrapped far enough around the bottles that it doesn't impact the first glance and since I'm still a new company, growing on Instagram is the best thing I can do right now as it's one of the quickest ways to target customers. Facebook is a slow process, so I've kind of put that on hold for the time being.
The detail on the parchment paper background shows up nicely, as seen here in early stages of development.
I see that those came out nicely! Although the lighting on the droplets seems to be different from the lighting on the main seal now that I am seeing it on the bottle. That's really just nitpicking though. I also notice that your letters don't really pop on the printed piece as well as they do on the imgur image; maybe the bezel/contour can be tweaked to make the letters pop a bit more on the label itself. Did you consider adding a border around the label?
I'll tweak the angle and see if I can make it pop a bit more, now that I'm looking at in person you're right about that, although the text is quite thin, so it might not work out.
I haven't considered adding a border, I think that'll take away from the parchment paper effect, though I'll definitely try it out! I do need to tweak the PC inside of the wax seal as well, I want that to stand out a bit more. I'm gonna try to make it a bit more gold looking.
I would, in no particular order, just writing things down as I look at it:
- change the 18+ text to an icon, or at least remove the period at the end
- put Do Not Drink on a separate line
- mention that it's e-liquid somewhere on the label
- make a single spot for the PG/VG, and put them in that order
- do something to improve readability on the ingredients. Maybe put a lighter square under them, or an outline.
- have a toxic symbol
- have a Born On date
- have a batch number
- change the weight, color, or maybe the font on the branding or flavor. The flavor in particular gets a bit lost
I'm a bit worried about how it's all going to look when printed, the background may be a bit too dark, the effects on the text might make it look a bit muddled. Or it could all look awesome, I don't do too much with print :P.
There's some things I personally don't really like, but it's mostly just stylistic choice, so I won't bore you with them :P.
I will definitely take some of those into consideration, thank you for the feedback! Some of those are things other users already pointed out and I'm making a list of things to do :)
As far as Born On Date goes, I can't currently do that unless I hand write them on the professional labels, which would look tacky. It would cost too much to print out separate dates and I don't pre-make my juice, it's all made upon order.
The only thing I can think of is getting a small label printer and printing the dates on a separate clear sticker and putting it somewhere.
Here's what it looked like when I printed the first test labels a while ago..
I think it needs to be more original. Almost everyone i've seen who is trying to make a professional label uses something similar. Heck my first label was almost the same thing.
You've got a point. A lot of people are using that parchment-esque look. This label looks fantastic, but I can think of at least 5 juices sitting on our desk for testers that look very similar. Be as original, yet professional, as possible. Look at Boosted for an example.
I have it set up with bleed space.
So far everyone loves the label, local shops and friends/family. I just wanted to get a couple more opinions before I get professional labels printed.
Also, I designed this myself, so anything can be changed instantly if needed. I saw the post earlier about the label, we kind of have a similar design but that's inevitable at this point.
Looks a lot like Lazarus Vintage
Reminds me of the Love Letter card game. Looks good.
