I moved about 9 months ago and hadn't really been mixing lately just because I'd been so busy. Well about 7 months ago, my laptop with all my recipes on it died. It wouldn't boot at all, even in to safe mode. I had pretty much just considered all my files lost, and more importantly, the few good recipes I've created myself.
Cut to now, and I've been mixing again lately. I had been vaping some of the last few mls of the 150ml batches of my old recipes, wishing I could remember then. I decided fuck it, and tried to boot it again, no luck. At this point I did some googling, and decided to make a bootable USB drive of Ubuntu.
After hours of headaches, I was able to learn enough about Linux to install some disk repair software. To my surprise I was able to view my files. Then I used Sambo to put my entire HDD on a network so I could copy them. And finally, after searching through my mess of file, I have my old recipes! This may seem easy to some of you, but before this I had never used Linux. I already have some juices steeping, and can't wait to vape 'em. The things we do for eJuice...
TL;DR Learned how to use Linux just to recover old recipes from HDD.
Decided to add two of the recipes I got back.
Snickerdoodle
- 4% Cinnamon Danish Swirl (CAP)
- 4% Sugar Cookie (FW)
- 2% Sweet Cream (TPA)
- 2% Vanilla Swirl (TPA)
I used the cream because without it, it tasted too dry for my liking. The Vanilla Swirl is optional, but I personally think the Vanilla note is nice for this recipe. I made this when I had just gotten into DIY. When I get some INW Biscuit I want to try experimenting with it in this recipe, and may try experimenting with something else to get more of a doughy cookie, instead of a dry one. The mouth feel you get from TPA Toasted Marshmallow may also be good.
Raspberry Lemonade
- 3% Lemon Sicily (FA)
- 1% Raspberry (LA)
- 1 drop 10% Citric Acid solution per 1ml
This is a very simple recipe I made to test out Lemon Sicily as a lemonade base, and many, many people have asked me for this juice since. It's as easy as it gets, and it's delicious. The Lemon Sicily almost give it an Italian Ice flavor (reminded me of Luigis Italian Ice the first time I ever smelt it), Koolada could be worth experimenting with here.
Congrats on getting your recipes back. Welcome to the Linux tribe. Will you be staying? I moved to Linux 10 years ago and have never looked back
I might actually. I've honestly been sick of Windows since Vista, it seems like part of Microsoft died with XP. I also love how versatile Linux is, the same thing that makes it difficult is what makes it so useful, so I'll just have get over the initial first user problems.
Well if you are basing your Windows experience on Vista, you're in bad fucking luck mate xD That is some true crap. However, I can vouch for Windows 10 actually being really fucking good in allmost all aspects. However, if you preffer Linux over it I'll let you go ahead, I have deep respect for Linux users, but you should definitively try out Win10 it's amazing.
Welcome to tuxland. The Great thing about Linux is that just like diy you can make the desktop environment just the way you like it. I do Web Development on the side as a hobby and have my Linux desktop set up to cycle through every step of my development cycle systematically with each step having its own virtual desktop. So when I'm done coding I move to the next desktop where I have a test window and then I can move it to my upload and save to git desktop, etc. Play, have fun, and the biggest tip I can give you is to work each problem out one at a time and don't give up or settle for workarounds. Make Linux your bitch and it will keep coming back for more :)
this is why i store my recipes on google drive, accessible anywhere from any device.
even though i just started and only have 5 test recipes...still, i know i won't lose them!
It's actually "Samba", but nicely done.
You might want to check out Spideroak (2GB Free). It's like Dropbox, but secure, and it works in all the major OSes, so if you decide to stay with Linux on your desktop, you'll still have access to your files.
Might be doing a rendition of your rasp lemo with INW rasp and Extreme Ice. Thinking a blackout city type thing with that limoncello feel and the tartness of the inw raspberry would be pretty spot on delicioso.
I'd like to get some INW Raspberry and try it out. Loranns is what I had, and their raspberry is pretty good so I used it. Some are concerned with the dyes in them, but at 1% it's nothing to worry about imo.
Do you still have the laptop? The hard drive is easily removed... if you have a desktop, it should be ez to plug it in, as long as you have the matching ports (sata or ata, etc). You can also get something that allows you to connect the drive by USB, if I remember correctly the one I use was roughly $30. I work in Information Technologirs, btw ;D
I put it into another computer as a 2nd HDD and I still couldn't get anything to work. The BIOS recognized it, the boot order was set so my main HDD had priority, and somehow the 2nd HDD still stopped it from booting. It seemed like no matter how I tried to boot, even if it wasn't off that device, it would just stop Windows from starting at all.
The % for Raspberry Lemonade seems very low. I'm thinking of doubling it as I like a lot of flavour. Is Citric Acid vital? I have a pouch of the powder but haven't got round to making it up yet.
Why not just slave the hd with an adapter to another pc to recover files? Unless the HD Failed completely this is almost always a quick and simple solution.
Also, you can always just download a bootable linux disc and boot from the disc without installing anything and view your files on your hard drive.
We would have helped you my friend, reddit is good for more than e-juice recipes but I'm glad you got your files back and thank you for sharing these recipes, snickerdoodle is literally almost 1:1 to a mix I've been working on but I've been using TFA French Vanilla over Vanilla Swirl, gonna mix this up and give it a shot, thanks again! :)
You just described exactly what I did... Plus Linux wouldn't even mount the drive at first, so I had to do more than just boot to Linux and copy my files. Did no one even read my original post? And I tried connecting is as a slave HDD, read my above post, it still wouldn't boot, even with boot priorities set right and BIOS recognizing it.
When connecting to slave you wouldn't boot from the hard drive you'd be asking for tons of issues, you boot as slave and once inside windows you can use disk manager to bring the drive into play. No where in your post did you say that you tried this but hey, be salty no sweat off my back was just saying that we would have helped you...
