Homage to TMAX Dr Stanley Clark's Snake Oil
submitted about 10 years ago by overachiever

I started my foray into DIY two years ago with a specific goal in mind - to clone TMAX Dr Stanley Clark's Snake Oil. For those who haven't tried it before, this juice has a predominantly anise and citrus profile with a sweet fruity (almost candy like) background. It is a refreshing vape that keeps making me go back for more and is IMHO one of the best juices in the UK.

I scoured the internet but there doesn't seem be a concenus on what makes up the sweet background notes. However, this juice always reminded me of pear drops candy so I'm pretty certain this juice contains some FA Pear Drops.

The citrus profile is what stumped me for so long. My first nth attempts involved using TFA Lemon Lime to recreate the citrus profile but I found the lime to be overbearing. Next, I tried FA Citrus Mix but whilst this was a lot closer, it has a strong grapefruit taste which I hated and is definitely not in Snake Oil. Then I played around with Capella Juicy Lemon for a bit after seeing this recipe but it's just not right. After what felt like the 100th attempt (I lost count at this stage), I gave up and consigned myself to not being able to clone this juice. That is until I ordered a bottle of FA Lemon Sicily for a different recipe - one smell of the bottle is all it took for me to realise this has been the missing piece all along! Looking back at my failed attempts, FA Citrus Mix was in the right ballpark except for the grapefruit. FlavourArt describes Citrus Mix as the "perfect blend of Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit and Mandarin" so I added some FA Orange and FA Mandarin to complement the Lemon.

So without further ado, here's my homage to TMAX Dr Stanley Clark's Snake Oil.

Wow, thanks dude! I've been trying to clone this recipe for ages and failing! I actually just ordered 80ml of it last week and I'm vaping it right now.

How similar would you say this recipe is to the original? Also, I don't get any lime from the original but could be in there with the citrus notes maybe. How long have you steeped it for and would you say it's as smooth as the original? Most of my iterations came out extremely harsh!

Thanks again and apologies for the many questions

I think it's close but I'll have to order from tmax again to confirm. This version is not too harsh as a shake and vape and the anise settles down more after a week. Let me know what you think if you decide to whip this up.

I've been trying to crack this one for ages, mines basically the same but I thin there is some bergamot in there which gives it a bit of of a kick. Good work.

I'll have to order some bergamot next month and give it a try.

When I was doing research a lot of people mentioned they tasted absinthe. I've never tasted absinthe so not sure what it tastes like, opinions?

They have a similar taste (since absinthe is an anise flavored spirit with fennel and other herbs iirc). I did try with TFA Absinthe but that has a slightly floral taste.

Hmmm I never tried this juice before but my experiance with FA Anise is this; it doesn't destort or change on different percentages which is good. It adds Sweetness and coolness to the recipe. Try Your recipe without the koolada. I will diffenetly will mix this up without. Looking at the flavors used and my experinace with FA, this is really a good recipe . I like the way you combined FA orange and Mandarine, real orange taste with a cutie effect;yum. Good job

Nice, I've tried to do this with about 10 different recipes and never got close. Will certainly give this a try, thanks in advance :)

Hello there, just dropped on your thread. What is your final impression compare to the real product? For a total noob in diy liquid how hard would it be? (considering i smoke the original at 80% vg and 3mg so i will have to modify your recipe)

It has the same flavour profile to the real thing (imho). It's not hard to adjust the recipe for your preferred PG/VG ratio and nic strength, just adapt the recipe on ELR and pluck in the numbers and you're good to go
