The Science of Flavor Blending.
submitted about 10 years ago by tempo_119Mixologist

Newish mixer here. I'm a few months in. I've read so many threads in this sub in the past months, and I've learned about the process, discovered several great recipes that I've tweaked to make my own, and some that I've left alone because they're delicious. But, I really want to truly understand the relationship between flavors beyond what's on the label (i.e. "strawberry", or "peach"). This recent thread touches upon some of that; /u/abdada talks about the individual flavor volatile compounds and how different flavors can compliment or clash with one another. I realize much of this game is trial and error, but surely understanding these relationships gives one a head start when conceptualizing a blend.

With that said, can any of you seasoned pros recommend some resources for the aspiring flavor alchemist? Books, websites, whatever. Thank you!

Look up The Flavor Bible. It shows really great pairings that is pretty helpful. You can search for blueberries and it will show a list of everything that pairs well with blueberry etc.

I was paging through that this morning. Pretty fun. It's in the /r/deeper_DIY/ sidebar in case anyone else is interested.
