Bloody Mary Test Batch #9: Failed
submitted about 10 years ago by CWinthrop

So if you've been following along, we're up to #9. And the worst part is, it's now stable!

Different steeping/curing method, and the Jalapeno doesn't cause the other flavorants to break down. So, success, almost.

NOW the problem is the taste. Almost identical to a real Bloody Mary...that's had a couple of heaping tablespoons of sugar poured into it.

What can I safely add to drop the sweetness and raise the acidity a bit?

We're so close I can taste it!

Bitter Wizard from FA

Start @ 2 drops per 30ml and increase from there by a drop at a time (steep required after adding).

I was going to say this.

But wouldn't that just make it bitter and not acidic?

It'll eliminate the sweetness and is the only viable option to do so that I've come across.

If you want it to be more acidic as well you could try some Tartaric Acid as well or instead.

I'm ordering a bottle right now! Cross your fingers!

I just read about using a small shot of lemon juice for an interesting kick. That might not be great for bloody Mary though.

You could try to find citric acid in powder form. You could probably get it online, possibly a specialty baking store. It's used to make Sour candies. That might be another route to try.

Good luck!

Ok, batch 9.5 (took batch 9 and added lemon juice). Better, but we lose the tomato flavor.

Dare I say... Shot of vinegar? That's probably a bad idea, but if you're feeling experimental...

It's actually not uncommon in fruity type flavors. Also, vinegar is used in (medical) vaporizers for chest congestion and stuff, so it's most likely safe for eliquid.

It may actually work well for the bloody mary.

You could try .2-.3% of FA guava. It has an intense taste, it isn't negate sweetness, but it is some sourness. Sorry I am not experienced with savory flavours.

Is it at all better than tfa guava?

I don't know it (the tfa), Fa guava is horrible as a standalone and it is completely different than capellas guava which is more like a juice you buy at the Chinese store.

I have to say I am really excited to try the final product. Bloody Marys are my favorite Sunday breakfast.

Same here. Just seems like I get so close, and then it falls apart. Starting test #10 today.

This might sound odd, but to remove any sweetness from a recipe I've been using HICs suggestion of a small amount of bread crust. You can read about it here https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/threads/pure-vapes-has-3ml-flavourart-flavorings.518022/page-61

Interesting. Now the trouble is getting Bread Crust from FA.

So am I, which makes it all the more frustrating. If test #10 fails, I'm just gonna sit down and cry.

Lol trust me man im in the same position with my Funfetti recipe. It's in its 8th batch. I keep getting further from the mark. It makes me just want to chug a 4oz of straight NIC and jump in a lake.

Don't use the good nic bro. Buy some MFS nic or something before you take the plunge :)
