I feel in over my head but they really liked my vanilla custard/elderberry batch I whipped up. It's just exciting and I felt like sharing :)
Congratulations!
Take it one step at a time, and you'll be fine. :)
Thanks for the encouragement y'all! Two things I'm going to do differently going forward: mixing by weight and taking notes. Thus far I have been making juice basically on demand for me and my posse, but I'm normally baked off my ass and don't remember quite how I made that last batch....I'm still trying to recreate my vanilla/elderberry haha.
Also, y'all should go to your B&Ms and ask if they have a house juice. If their answer is no...well then good thing you're there! I think B&Ms don't have the incentive to design this on their own in all cases, but if some rando who did all the leg work strolls in and offers to get it off the ground, they may be surprisingly receptive. I was definitely surprised!
I had to force myself to keep everything I mix in a onenote notebook because two of the best flavors I've ever made are total mysteries and I doubt I'll ever recreate them. Getting stoned and eyeballing mixes seems to yield amazing one-of-a-kind juices though lol!
I take copious (some would say excessive) notes on each batch. I suggest a nice 3-ring binder and loose leaf pages, or if you're strictly digital, Notepad++ allows you to have multiple files open at a time.
I'm about to start mixing by weight, soon as my scale gets in, so I can do larger batches.
My local B&M is already wanting my juice, but I'm a perfectionist.
I started out the same way and I was able to quit my job. Now I'm ready to expand to other shops. It's definitely rewarding getting paid to do something you enjoy, so keep it up.
Nice, what sort of commission do you make? I don't want to get shafted but don't know what to ask for
$6 per 30ml, they sell them for 15. You might be able to ask for more, but most places will want to make a little more than half. If the shop wants to do consignment, make them pay more though because you are sharing the risk.
I feel pressure to do this because I have a good clientele, but I wonder what will happen when the FDA hammer drops. Most people who buy from me stopped buying from shops so I know it is good, I just worry what happens when I can't afford to do this with all the new rules.
Sell 0mg mixes? Without nicotine Idk how they could interfere. I always figured that's how we would shift if the FDA went crazy.
I vape zero nic, but all my customers vape nicotine. If I couldn't offer that then they would get it elsewhere.
I know of a guy who switched to having his made by a lab. Hopefully you are successful enough for that to happen.
Only way to go to survive the long haul, also a major selling point in my opinion since:
-
You know it is made clean etc.
-
Your company won't disappear when the FDA comes.
this is exactly why I went with a lab. they take a small cut but margins in the industry are still great
