There are three crucial points that you have to be aware of in order to mix VG juices with a DIY stirplate:

VERY STRONG magnets have to be used to get a good bond with the stirbar, or it will just fly off if introduced to e-liquid.

Better use a bigger rather slow motor than a fast weak one.

Get a good PWM Motor-Speed control to slow the motor down on thicker liquids.
Have you tried it with actual juice yet? I've yet to see even professional magnetic stirrers that will aggressively mix room temp VG.
Haha, I was so proud of it that I think I posted too soon. Just attempted to mix a test batch...120ml at 80/20 at room temp and it's having a heck of a time. It does a good enough job if I pre-heat the VG, but I'm going to try a stronger fan I have in a little bit and more magnets if needed. I wont be satisfied until I see foam. Will report back...
I use a silogex mag stirrer, and anything over 100rpm will buck the magnet at 80/20 on a 2L batch. As it heats it gets easier, but room temp is mixable at 100rpm. Using a flask as opposed to a beaker helps too, as it makes a smaller vortex at the top.
I figured you guys would want to see how this turned out... These are a pretty simple build and the only part a lot of people will need to buy is the rubberized magnetic stirring rod. We decided to build it after seeing another video floating around, and after getting the magnets spaced properly it works like a champ. You could use a large Hammond-like enclosure or whatever you please to mount the fan to. Just epoxy the magnets to the fan and wire everything up and you're good to go. Hope someone else builds one and saves some money!
Parts: An old 12V PC fan + a couple of hard drive magnets + turn-knob potentiometer + 12V wall adapter + and magnetic stirring rod/bar
