Not being satisfied by e liquid, still craving cigarettes.. Ideas?
submitted about 10 years ago by HalfBakedIndividual

I was thinking of making a tobacco extract from my favorite tobacco with PG but with a high tobacco/PG ratio and a little heat to make it as strong as possible. Because from what I've heard there are chemicals other than nicotine in tobacco which give the effects, how much safer than actually smoking would this be? And also has anyone tried it?

I'm only speaking from my experience, but please pay attention, it's good advice.

Don't use tobacco flavors or cigarette-like flavors when trying to quit.

The reason most people gravitate towards fruit and dessert flavors is the same reason that you used to chew gum to quit, it satisfies a different set of reactors in your taste buds/sense of smell.

You want to separate the carnal desire from the mental wanting of something.

If you aren't feeling satisfied, you need to think about what you are craving when you desire a cigarette.

  • The buzz/feeling - mostly from nicotine, but cigarettes carry other chemicals that give you a buzz.

I can tell you I hadn't had a cigarette in weeks once vaping caught for me - then I smoked one. I still got a buzz even though I'd steadily been ingesting nicotine. Nicotine is just the strongest craving cigarettes cause, and the hardest to break.

If you feel this desire, up your nicotine content on your juice for now - most heavy smokers start between 18-24mg nicotine in their juice - I did, and I'm down to 2mg nicotine and almost ready to jump to 0.

  • that feeling in the back of your throat when you inhale.

This was my biggest stumbling point. With high nicotine you will get a decent throat hit, but also, I found using 50/50 PG/VG ratio made a big difference in my satisfaction from vaping and lowering my cravings.

  • Physical reward - oral fixation - smoke

If this is what you are missing, you need to look at your vaping setup. I started with an 11 watt stick mod and nautilus mini tank. I could get enough satisfaction to not smoke as frequently, but it didn't completely curb my cravings for an actual cigarette.

Then I bought a 150 watt box mod and a subtank. While I never got past 30 watts on this set up and could have spent less on a 40-50 watt mod, it curbed my craving completely and I immediately cut my nicotine content in my juice by half to 12mg, and only weeks after my last cigarette I was down to 6mg nicotine.

Once you find a fruity/dessert vape you love, at the right nicotine level, in a tank that can produce adequate throat hit and vapor, you'll smoke a cigarette.

Only then will you realize how disgusting it is, put it out, and never look back.

Good luck!

I used to hate smoking, and only vaped because I liked nicotine but didn't like to smoke. It's unfortunate and it's a long story why but I picked up smoking properly and ended up enjoying it. For some reason it's really hard not smoking even with enough nicotine. I think there has to be something else in cigs because I feel a craving which isn't being addressed by the e cigs.

Yes, there's a lot more of "something" in cigs, a LOT more. You should try out a higher wattage setup with a rebuildable atomizer. You could start with cheap clones to see if it works out for you or not. They need much more air flow, so there's less of the cig a like draw on it. Some people like the hard draw, and others find that more vapor is better. Really depends on the person.

Edit: also keep in mind, on a higher wattage device you'll want to drop the nic down to somewhere between 3 and 8 mg, otherwise you might make yourself sick.

Yeah I have an old igo-w/l can't remember which lying around, when I can afford it I'm going to pick up a kanger subox kit for ease of use because when I was into vaping I found the hassle of an RDA and other things made it difficult.

I'm not new to vaping I just got sucked back into smoking because I'm young and take my good health for granted.

I looked up the Kanger subtank and it says it's not for beginners. Would I be able to use it to give up cigarettes

if its not satisfying id say its probably your setup. if you have a weak setup that barely gives you any vapor then you will still crave most likely. look into investing more with the new money you will have from not smoking cigs or maybe try raising the nicotine amnt in your juice if you arent already using 18-24 mg.

I mixed myself some 24mg because I used to vape and got into the hobby aspect earlier except I didn't have a strong tobacco addiction then. My set up is quite basic right now because I can't afford a good one but it used to be an RDA and a 30w battery.

Pick up a Subbox-mini set up. http://101vape.com/variable-voltagewattage-devices/653-authentic-kanger-subox-sub-box-mini-starter-kit.html

You can get a cheap mech mod for $20 (I bought a SMPL that works great for that price) & with the Igo-W you have you should be able to put a decent build in it that will give you a pretty powerful vape. Of course there's much better RDA's out there but that should work for now, I drilled my Igo-W out a little bit & it made a big difference.

What kind of device are you running?

It's a basic battery and protank 2, I lost my RDA and 30w battery (aspire 30w and plume veil)

Maybe you need a higher wattage, or higher nicotine? After I switched to a 30w device, I powered through quitting. It's not easy.

This could be the reason your craving a smoke. When I used my protank and kayfun, I needed cigarettes occasionally. The tight draw and lack of satisfying vapor kept me a dual user for a couple months. I could not kick the smokes until I went sub ohm and started to discover how good vaping could be. I tend to think that quitting smoking is 33%will power, 33%juice, and 34% hardware. Juice and willpower won't cut it when your not getting a decent hit.

I dig mouth to lung hits, I've sorta reconsidered my vaping habits. I used to use a dripper but right now I've been using a protank at 24mg.

I like how much more discreet it is. My upgrade I think will be the best clearo which can still get me mouth to lung hits. I need something which looks cool that I'm not embarrassed to use in public.

Definitely don't try to make a flavour extract with tobacco. I had the same feelings when I quit, I will say Tribeca by Halo was a godsend for me and the only juice I vaped for the first 3 months. YMMV, juice is so personal.

I would make sure you have a solid set up (either a variable voltage ego battery so that you can adjust the voltage, you'll probably want more for a hotter throat hit, or get yourself a simple box mod like the istick 30w). You also should make sure you've got a good tank as well, my preference is the Kanger Subtank but there's lots of love for a few tanks around here.

I had this same problem, no joke I wasn't able to kick real ciggys until I took Chantix and vaped at the same time.

I'm happy I got off the ciggys but man Chantex was a fucking trip.

> Chantix was a fucking trip.

I would never, ever recommend anyone take this shit. It's a miracle pill - it really works - but it can fuck people's heads up so bad.

When I started vaping, I had an ego. It helped reduce my cravings for cigarettes but it wasn't until I upgraded to a Vamo that I finally quit. A few months later, I got a sample pipe tobacco juice. My first thought was 'Wow, that's spot on!' and my second thought was 'I need a cigarette!'

My point is 1. I needed more power to actually quit and 2. Tobacco eLiquids made me want to start again. I don't know of anybody that has quit smoking by vaping tobacco flavors.

I would think that if you really want to quit smoking, you need to distance yourself from the addictive compounds added to processed tobaccos.

For me, it depends on my setup. Having an rda is nice and all, but when I'm really craving a cigarette nothing satisfies me more than my kanger subtank. It hits more like a cigarette than my rdas do and so it satisfies my smoking and vaping needs at the same time.

Like others said, the device you use is really important IMO. And nicotine level.

I've had this problem in the early days of vaping. From what I can tell having a nice and sufficiently powerful setup paired with a juice that you love really goes a long way. It doesn't hurt to be into it as a hobby also.

Wish I had the time to get some nana cream because that's gotta be the best juice I've tried. I'm going away tomorrow however. So I have to mix up a few bottles of juice before.

One thing that isn't really discussed anymore is how nicotine in vapor is absorbed more in the nose and mouth rather than the lungs. Changing how you vape could help satisfy those nicotine cravings.

If somebody answered your questions I missed it. I don't know how much safer this is but I've done so and it does scratch the itch. I thought I might have the patience for cold maceration but ended up working with the crock pot. My results are satisfactory, though I've not achieved a combusted smoke feel. I will say IMHO it tastes much better than a cigarette does nowadays. As a suggested alternative; NN's Tobacco Absolute would be a good choice if you want to skip the extraction and have a great tobacco flavor to work with.

Increase the throat hit by either increasing nicotine, or increase wattage

That hit you get is what I like when I need a fix I use a dual 18650 box mod with a low ohm coil. It packs a punch without nicotine, and when I crave some I just drop a few drops of 6 mg. You'll even feel 3 mg

I was really enjoying HIC's Light American Cigarette Replacement when I'd get that craving. Really great in the morning with coffee and reminds me alot of what my senses expect -- It didn't completely kill the craving, but it was enough -- It tastes alot like a burnt cigarette smells, though, a word of advice: stay on the lower end of the recommended mix, especially with the black fire, it's called black fire for a reason and will totally take over if overmixed, unless you enjoy vaping campfires.

As an aside, I may have also discovered, that my physiology doesn't agree with one (or more) of the ingredients (likely black fire or oakwood) as after about two to three days of vaping various blends (blended with a very flavor heavy castle long clone or another of HICs RY4 blend), it started causing me to itch and sneeze. It went away after a few days and I'm still in the midst of trial and error to determine the ingredient causing it (could be the tobaccos for all I know -- I've reacted oddly to previous mixes with m-type and 555 blends)... I still vape it, just not an all day thing for me much anymore...

The mix I used:

  • Cuban Supreme Tobacco (FA) 2.5
  • Black Fire (FA) 0.5
  • Burley (FA) 0.5
  • Oakwood (FA) 0.25

I'd probably go lower on the black fire from what I used and try it at .25-.3% before upping itany. .5% gives an almost too heavy smoke/ashy flavor, but it's good here; I would (based on my own experience though) avoid going any higher than that, unless you enjoy the taste of smoky burnt smoke...

*EDIT for recipe, notes, comments, etc.
