First off, I want to send out a HUGE thank you to everyone that offered insight and support and shared recipes with me via PM as well as in that thread. It's been a major help in getting this thing tuned in close. /u/notcharlesmanson and /u/BleuXShadoW in particular!
I still need to try a few other pears (I hadn't come back to this in maybe 6 months and realized I had let go of some of my unused concentrates since, FML at having my R&D lab in my spare bedroom lol). Running out of space for random flavor shit. Will be placing some large flavor orders in the next few weeks to try virtually every other pear on the market as I feel this is close but the pear flavor is still a little bit off.
Here is my current variation which adds up to be absolutely fucking delicious and in the ballpark, but actually a little off my previous version. I think one or two ingredients may need to go (not entirely sure and won't be until after a good steep).
2% FA Pear
4% TFA Pear
0.5% FA Lime Cold Pressed
1.5% TFA Gummy Candy
1% LA Watermelon (colorless)
0.5% FA Kiwi
0.3% INW Cactus
0.5% FA Fuji Apple
2% Ethyl Maltol (10%)
Super yummy but I may need to drop that FA Kiwi and play around with or drop the INW Cactus a little (thinking 0.2% instead.) The %% on the Fuji Apple likely still needs some adjustment as well but this is hands down the tastiest pear vape I've had....
Keep working, keep tweaking and let's keep the discussion going!
Previous Version (Closest to Jelly Belly's I've tasted):
1.5% FA Pear
4% TFA Pear
0.7% FA Lime Cold Pressed
2% TFA Gummy Candy
2% TFA Ethyl Maltol
1.5% LA Watermelon (colorless)
After all this, you fuck me over by throwing INW Cactus in there?! You're dead to me!!!!
It pulls it away from the Jelly Belly flavor but it's mighty fucking tasty.
Do you like making me spend money on more flavors?
For those that want to try the recipe I first PM'd him, this is one of the closer attempts I had before we/he tweaked it to what it is now. I has a few different ingredients most of you should have:
4% TFA Pear
1.5% FA Pear
2% TFA Gummy Candy (PG)
2% EM
1% TFA Dragonfruit
.5% FA Lime Cold Pressed
.5% FA Banana
As I told botboy141, I wasn't so sure on the banana and dragonfruit, but I liked it in this version.
I've gotta say, since you started as a mod here I've noticed you're persistent as fuck. That's pretty admirable. I would've mentioned this a few months ago and then I'd have never bothered to do anything about it after that. You seem to just keep going until you nail something. Mad props for that.
Also this looks yummy as shit already. I haven't had these in forever so I can't remember what the taste is like, but if you need a bit of a realistic pear touch I'd highly recommend NF Pear at a low percentage.
It's hard to create successful complex recipes without being persistent/stubborn/obsessive. I have not created a single new scratch recipe so far that I was satisfied with on the first 3 or 4 revisions. It's the nature of these things, it also happens to help maintain a group of other stubborn people.
How much is the gummy candy helping? Any notes on how it effected your recipe?
It's incredible...have you tasted it before? It makes the whole inside of the jelly bean texture/artificial sugar/candy taste.
Have you considered adding some FA Custard? I feel like at 1-2% might give it a little extra filling without toning out any of the flavor spikes that FA Fuji and FA Pear are giving.
I'm going to be honest here, I got it on one of my first orders from Wizard Labs about 2 years ago.
It's still sitting here.... hahaah
When I had no idea what I was doing I mixed it with some TFA sweet tart and it just completely killed the two flavors for me. I'm definitely going to have to play with it again.
Yup the Fuji is definitely crucial in there, it really rounds it out well. 0.4% seems to work quite well. With the cactus, it works really well but gives it a floral taste that I didn't feel was true to juicy pear. I think 0.1% would be perfect for the cactus, 0.2% at most. Dude let me send you some INW pear, I'm telling you, it will get you even closer to hitting it dead on. I seriously don't mind sending you some, you help out this sub an incredible amount and are an awesome dude in general. It will get to you faster than if you ordered it from anywere also :)
Yeah as I mentioned in the OP I think the cactus can work but even 0.3% was just too much. The Fuji is amazing in there but needs the percentage tweaked down some as well (at least as a shake and vape) it may be less evident after a steep.
Yeah I have to agree with you on this one. I think INW Pear is gonna bring this one home. It has the taste of the skin and I get a slight hint of that in the jelly bean. You may be able to sub out the lime for the INW pear due to it having a slightly more zesty taste to it. The skin taste of the pear kinda reminds me of the zest from a lime and that could be whats giving the recipe its bite.
Wish I could give you a percentage to start at, but I would say its gonna be way lower then the other pear flavors. 0.4% maybe?
Hope that helps and thanks for all the hard work you put in here.
I would say to cut the other pears by 1/2 and do 2% inw pear, possibly even higher than 2%.
Made it and dropped the other pears by 1/2 and went with 2% INW Pear. You're right that it needs to be higher then 2%. Think I may bump it up to 3 and 4%. The flavor profile seems good just needs a little more of the pear skin taste to it.
Really good stuff.
Any reason you used LA Watermelon, and not TFA or INW? I have both of those, and can't seem to find LA anywhere. I haven't tried the INW yet, any reason why it would be bad to sub?
I love LA Watermelon, that's why I used it. TFA is very similar though and could suffice.
You can find LA Watermelon Colorless @ OSDIYS
I've tried a couple variations, the one I like best so far:
1% FA Pear
2% TFA Pear
0.5% FA Lime Cold Pressed
1.5% TFA Gummy Candy
1.5% LA Watermelon*
0.4% FA Fuji Apple
2% TFA Cotton Candy
0.3% FA Kiwi
4% INW Pear
0.2% INW Cactus
^^*Because ^^I ^^only ^^have ^^colored, ^^its ^^probably ^^a ^^little ^^heavier/more ^^diluted ^^than ^^uncolored.
Just changed some percentages around based on the comments and tried out the INW Pear. I really like it, it's super yummy. I need to try SCE Pear+INW Pear in place of FA/TFA at some point too. I don't know how spot on it is to the real deal, haven't had them in forever. But it is still fuckin' delicious. Going to mix a 100ml of the flavoring soon. It's amazing as a shake n vape and even better after it sits overnight.
> Going to mix a 100ml of the flavoring soon.
Looks like I'll have to try this variation if you are that confident of it being yum yum yummy!
Yeah, I really like it. I think the INW Pear is a great addition. I'd like to try taking it down to 3%, going uncolored on the Watermelon (I swear the colored ones are harsher), and maybe lowering the Gummy Candy just a tad next time. But either way, this is going to be a genuine ADV for me.
Serious props on this so far.
Any update on this? what was the final recipe that you went with?
The one at the bottom of the OP was thr closest to the candy I've tried so far.
cool thanks for the response! I've been mixing for a couple months now and i think i have just destroyed my taste for custards, and strawberry creams. haha and other good fruit/candy recipes you ADV?
Okay I finally put this all together... what is your VG/PG ratio? I mixed it up and it has a harshness to it, might be my nic though. Im going to try to bump the gummy down to 1 as well... thoughts? Maybe add some INW cactus for a juicier taste to it... not sure. Its a great starting point IMO, im going to tweak it a bit and report back ;)
