Anyone ever had these lovely little angels?
This is the reason I originally got into DIY and I still haven't even wound up in the right ballpark trying to make a juice to taste like these.
What fucking pear flavor is that and what the hell are the supporting flavors? Anyone care to play? =)
Need help, seriously, I'm at my wits end over here...
I've basically tried FA, FW, and TFA Pears (CAP's has Stevia in it so I've avoided thus far, might be worth a shot though) and I've tried those 3 with every combination of watermelon/strawberry I can imaging and nothing even comes close...
I'm a very sad panda today.
~~I bet it's cactus prickly pear flavor.~~ Pear juice and other unknown flavors
Jelly Belly is up the road in southern Wisconsin and you can meet their flavor engineers on request. Some work in [California] (http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2010/08/sweet-memories-how-jelly-belly-invents-flavors/61477/).
They also make that flavor as a soda. Yep. Eff you, too.
Yeah but I doubt the flavor engineers will give away the secret =)
Agreed on the cactus. I'm vaping on 1.5% INW cactus, 8% TFA watermelon, and 2% dragonfruit right now and to me, it tastes very similar.
I think with a little bit of TFA pear you'll be on the right track. If you have INW exotic fruits, it would add that nice crisp taste to it.
I'm pretty new to diy, but here's my 2 cents. Have you tried Pear Candy by TFA? It's pretty sweet and candy like, but pretty powerful overall. For supporting flavors i would try a sour green apple and pineapple maybe.
Hey, just to catch you up to speed, botboy is a mod, and he very well might have the most extensive collection of flavors of any active members here(not exaggerating). I realize this seems like I'm saying "do you know who you're talking to?" but I don't mean it to be like that. Just kind of a little cheat-sheet for one of the big names in the subreddit ;) You'll notice the same 15-20 names popping up in all these posts. But since /u/botboy141 is a mod, he has a monopoly over the first-posts >:(
I know who he is, and i don't understand your reply. I was just suggesting Pear Candy.
It was more saying that he's probably tried it, but trying to make it sound less pretentious than that :/ I'm still a bit hazy from drinking this morning, so my posts aren't as filtered as they normally are. The filter between brain and keyboard isn't quite there right now...
Have you tried Inawera's pear? It's very tasty and juicy. I'd mix it with a touch of TFA Lemon Lime to play around.
inw pear, one of my favorite smelling flavorings :) I was actually thinking maybe a smidge of tfa mango as well, but lemon lime might work well also. juicy pear (JB) has that mouth watering zing to it, it's hard to explain, but my tastebuds have always loved it. I'm a huge pear fan btw haha
What if Jelly Belly has their own flavor chemist and you'll never get it right!
Oh I'm very sure they do.
But I should be able to get a "close enough" with the pre-fab flavors out there...
I cannot recall the taste of pear jelly bellies (been over a decade) but someone mentioned a fermented note. If that is the case I would recommend trying a small amount of FA Amber. Also I have noticed most "pear" flavored food/drink items tend to use an apple base. I have FA, TFA, LA, and INW pear. Maybe I should try to find some jelly bellies
I'm sure this doesn't help much, but D'Anjou pear puree is used in the Juicy Pear flavor.
That is helpful for sure.
I love those things! As to what pear flavor can be used I have no idea. FA Pear is too light and TFA is too harsh. Using both can make a decent pear flavor, but not the type of pear I imagine the jelly belly being.
I hear that Silver Cloud Estates Pear is supposed to be really good. I ordered it a few days ago myself but won't get it till next week. I myself have been on a pear kick and after searching here for Pear notes I found this where /u/Ceddy mentions that the SCE Pear was good. It has alcohol in it so I am sure it will take a bit of a steep too get it out (or not).
I don't taste any alcohol in SCE Pear. I just give it a day or two mix/settle. Gets a little better after a week, but not much.
Something curious with SCE Pear is it has zero discoloration with age. I have some(mixed 7.5%) almost a year old and its still crystal clear. All my other juices brown with age.
Never had the Juicy Pear Jelly Bellies, can't say if the flavors are close. I'll have pick some up.
Would you say SCE Pear is still a really good pear flavor now that you have had it a while? I ordered some last week and am really excited for it.
Idk if this helps you but whenever I try those delicious jelly beans I always taste a bit of lemon lime, with a bit more lime. Maybe try adding some of that?
Fuck. Yes. This is the Flavor I have been waiting for. Closest I have been able to get is a not very great combination of 4% Lorann Pear, 2% TFA Pear, and 1% Capella Lemon Lime- Has a funk, but it hits maybe half of the notes I want.
Yeah LA Pear is still a strong candidate in my book. Wasn't perfect by itself but it was the closest of those I've tried. Anyone else get a hin of watermelon from this stuff?
Hint of watermelon from the candies or the lorann? I do get a SMALL taste of red melon in the candy. I also may or may not have bought some jelly bellys. You know, for research. I have a feeling this isn't going away soon. Edit- after trying a few finished juices, I'm going to try adding tfa max dew 3% (reducing lemon lime to .5 %) and FW maraschino cherry, at 2%. I'm hoping this adds to the middle and exhale flavor.
might be worth exploring: http://www.naturesflavors.com/pear-flavor-extract-without-diacetyl/p62474/, maybe using inw kaktus to modify it a bit. I haven't tried the flavor so its difficult to suggest anything other than pear flavors you haven't explicitly mentioned.
Most of CAP's fruits I've tried in the "CAP Sweet <Fruitnamehere>" category have had a candy-like flavor. I see you've avoided Stevia thus far, but for the sake of chasing the clone, might be worth testing it in an iteration. I have no experience with the Pear flavor, but if it's not sweet enough, maybe pairing it with CAP Sweet Guava at a low percent may give it the sweet Pear flavor.
Here is a dissertation done on pears that may be helpful to some degree. Anjou Pear GC/MS starts on pge 52. Maybe /u/abdada can make heads and tails of this since he is the molecule man.
Ripening pear flavor volatiles : identification, biosynthesis and sensory perception
I'm yet to use it, but that jelly belly flavor is what pops into my head when I smell TFA's pear candy. I know you stated you tried it, but maybe it's worth going back to. Maybe a combination of TFA Pear candy, TFA Pear, and CAP Sweet Watermelon (my secret for "candying" fruit (Hard candy, not cooked candied). What would probably be missing is something to make it "juice". Maybe some inawera cactus or pear, or both.
Like I said though, only speculating.
Dude, I can't even tell you how many pounds of juicy pear jelly bellies I've eaten in the past. I've had my fair share of the sour assortment, but when it comes down to a bag of a single flavor, it's going to be juicy pear. I visited the factory when I was a younger with my family and bought juicy pear gumballs and they were so damn good.
I can't believe I haven't even thought about making this flavor. Inawera pear is pretty close, but idk. I'm gonna experiment some tomorrow with INW pear and tfa pear candy. I want to get some lorann pear now haha. Thanks for reminding me of this awesome flavor, if I get anywhere close I'll definitely let you know!
Those have always been my least favorite jelly belly. It doesn't taste like rotten pears to anyone else?
Please do, I don't have any flavor purchases slotted for a couple of weeks but I'll be picking up anything that could possibly work here that I don't currently have.
Been jonesing for this forever.
I haven't tried their pear flavors but if you really feel like trying everything...
The Flavor Shack has an expert pear flavor.
one on one probably has one. I hear their fruits are ok but I wouldn't get much else, I had a shit experience with them.
getsuckered sells flavorings...haven't tried them
world of aromas has a pear flavor. My friend has been using their concentrates making some decent juice.
Just figured I would throw some other options out there.
Oh also what about liquid barn or killer flavors...could have one.
Is it strange that when I cram a ton of those jelly beans in my mouth I almost get a hint of apple?
Cramming ones mouth with candy never appeared strange to me...
Here are the chemicals used in the tfa flavouring, I remind you, some are also naturally occurring. Therefore if one of the 20 flavours can taste like apple, you can recognise it in higher concentration. 5 molecules have the description -apple sweet, green whatever.
If higher concentration means a mouth crammed full, nothing strange about it.
I can see that...
I can't really say it will be the right one but I was on the search for a Pear similar to one I vaped bout a year ago from Zeus Juice. Silver Cloud Estates Pear was the closest and might be worth a try. I can be a bit picky sometimes but this is the only pear concentrate I enjoy. Best of luck!
Ok so here's what I've got so far that's close. There's 2 that are so close, but still missing something, possibly a hint of watermelon or honeysuckle. In order from closest to juicy pear to farthest but still close.
This first one is so close and really tasty shake n vape, can't wait to see how it is after some aging
- 3% pear (INW)
- 2% pear candy (TFA)
- 1% mango (TFA)
- 0.4% Fuji (FA)
- 3% pear (INW)
- 3% pear candy (TFA)
- 1% mango (TFA)
- 0.5% Fuji (FA)
- this one is super simple but really tasty
- 4% pear (INW)
- 0.5% Fuji (INW)
- 3% pear(INW)
- 1% pear candy (TFA)
- 0.3% Fuji (FA)
I am definitely going to be working on this some more when I have free time. I only had a small slot of time to do some experimenting, but the results are very promising so far. /u/botboy141 my offer still stands, I will send you some INW pear if you pm me your address. It will get to you a whole lot quicker than direct haha
Actually, a combination of TFA Pear and FA Pear + TFA Gummy Candy seems to have gotten us really close. While I have no doubt INW Pear is good as well, these 3 together are really really close by themselves. Just trying to nail down that back note...Thanks to /u/notcharlesmanson for an attempt he PM'd to me that used those 3. Hopefully I have something really close to share soon.
Nice! I didn't even think of using gummy candy, I'll try mixing a smidge of that in to seen if it helps. That first recipe is really really close and gummy candy might be just what it's missing.
Glad to help! Be sure to update us on this. I'll keep working on it as well. Do you think the Dragonfruit or banana did anything to help the mix?
Not the banana, I'm torn on the dragonfruit. I think it helped the mix but didn't bring it any closer to the flavor I'm after.
I think a hint of watermelon or honeydew may be key and I'm playing with a few different options right now.
Your percentages on the Pears and Gummy Candy was awesome though, might tweak them a little but haven't bothered yet.
4% tfa pear, 0.5% tfa watermelon, 1% fa lime tahiti, 2% lorann pear, 2% tfa nectarine. Not bad so far, might switch the la pear and tfa pear
