I can't taste TFA Strawberry at all. Best 1:1 replacement?
submitted about 10 years ago by cjinct

So I've recently discovered that I cannot taste TFA Strawberry. At all. Nada, zip, zilch. I haven't used it very much and when I did, it was in recipes like /u/fizzmustard 'Nana Cream - but since I'd never had the original, I didn't know what it was supposed to taste like, so I thought Meh, just not for me.

However, I made the Mustard Milk, let it steep for a couple weeks and man, it smelled so good I wanted to climb into the bottle. But taste? Nothing but Vanilla Bean ice cream. Literally nothing but spicy bean.

I can taste many other strawberries just fine ( Cap Sweet strawberry, INW strawberry and shisha strawberry) but none of those seem to be quite right with the VBIC. And of course, since I can't taste the TFA, I have no way to tell what would be comparable.

So my 2 questions are:

What is the best 1:1 replacement for it? (I've also got TFA Ripe, FA Strawberry, MF Strawberry, FF, INW and INW TD Wild, Cap Sweet and Strawberries & Cream, Lorann and out of frustration, have ordered all 3 Strawberry variants from SCE)

2nd, does anyone know what is in TFA Strawberry that would completely mask it's taste? I can taste other brands and variants, so I'm curious what component could make it so that I can't taste it at all. And is there anything that could be added (additive or flavor) to counteract that and allow it's flavor to come through?

Sorry for the novella but I'm extremely frustrated by this (I WANT MY MUSTARD MILK, DAMMIT)

I enjoy Sweet Strawberry much more than TFA's Strawberry. Sweet Strawberry at 4% and Ripe Strawberry at 4% is, imo, is my favorite strawberry flavor. Also if you get too much of that spicy bean flavor, try dropping the % to around 4% and adding in some Meringue at 1% and some Vienna Cream at 1%

I've found flavors with a few snacks. Edit Also, technically Tobacco is a godsend. lmfao How many of us posts a recipe, and then another ejuice is at.

Can confirm, this works awesome. I use a little less Ripe than Sweet, but together the two really pop

I like FW strawberry in place of TFA strawberry. It is your 1:1 replacement.

I have fw strawberry natural and it is the best in terms of flavor but it gunks so I stopped using it

Really? I'll have to pick some up and hope it isn't such a 1:1 that I can't taste it ;)

Thanks!

I think FA strawberry is fantastic .

If you go with FA Stwarberry, you HAVE to shake the bottle before you use it.

Try 6% CAP Sweet Strawberry and 2% FA Strawberry. Yum.

I have the same problem with the strawberry... I can smell it just fine but I can't taste much of it when vaping. Frustrating. :(

A couple of days ago, I stumbled upon Key Lime Pie Oreos at the grocery store. Tried a couple that night (so good) then vaped Fizz's 'Nana Cream. All I could taste at that point was Strawberry and it was so good. Next time I need to mix the 'Nana, I'm going to make a small sample with a drop or two of Key Lime. I'm hoping for a repeat. :P

Oooh, that sounds delicious :) And it's what I'm hoping for - something I could add that would somehow 'unblock' the tfa

I've got a 60mL of the Mustard Milk already made - I'll have to pull out 5mL and try adding a drop of key lime, see what happens...

I have 2 friends who vape my juice who have the same issue with tfa strawberry, for their juices I sub cap sweet strawberry for part of the tfa

Part of the TFA?

If the recipe called for 5% tfa strawberry I'd use 3% cap Sweet strawberry and 3% tfa strawberry.

FA strawberry at 1/2 - 2/5 the percentage.

TFA strawberry is fantastic, FA isn't quite as good IMHO, but hopefully you can taste it.

> TFA strawberry is fantastic

Thanks for rubbing it in :/ LOL

I've always thought strawberry to be one of FA's weaker flavors but maybe at 4+% it will be enough, and can stand up to VBIC

FA Strawberry is very similar and more concentrated. Have you tried more than one bottle/batch of TFA Strawberry? Maybe you have a bad bottle?

I considered the bad bottle possibility but then I remembered way back when, when I was buying pre-made and got strawberry juices and there were a few of those that I couldn't taste as well. I thought they were just bad juices (I could smell it but it tasted like 'sweet air') But since there were some that I could taste, it never occurred to me that the ones I couldn't were using one specific flavor of strawberry :/

Got ya... since mixing I've learned just how different people's palates can be, and that one person will taste something differently than another. It's really funny hearing the guesses when I don't tell people what flavor the juice is and them try to figure it out :)

Nearly every flavor of TFA's (not all) is weaker and requires more than average to really start tasting it .

Bubble gum is ridiculously weak , got to use a ton lol.

I find CAP Sweet Strawberry makes for an almost direct replacement. I made the Nana Cream clone with it in place of the TFA one and it was 95% the same.

I've found CAP to have quite a different taste, but I do really like the flavour. It makes up a great Strawberry component and have found it comes through more noticeably than TFA's Strawberry.
