Alright so I'm having some issues with the ethyl alcohol that is in many flavorings that I ordered from TFA and CAP. Even after a week of steeping, I find many of the juices I've made too harsh to use in my dripper (.7 ohm dual coil) and even my subtank (1.2 ohm coil), and I know its not my builds on these since I've use vendor juice and have had no issues with harshness. I've also tried my pg and vg and nicotine without flavorings and the harshness is not there.
I'm wondering if when I mix together the flavorings, before I add either nicotine,pg, or vg, can I hot water bath just the flavorings to quickly evaporate off the alcohol? I'm thinking since there is less liquid for the alcohol to evaporate out of, this might speed up the process of getting rid of this awful throat hit the alcohol is adding. I know I can just be more patient and wait for these juices to fully steep, but I'm vaping unflavored juice, and am getting teased by all these wonderful smelling creations I have sitting here.
The ethanol is used in many flavors to help the flavor molecules' miscibility in pg. Some will evaporate over time, but by trying to remove all the ethanol, you take a risk of that flavorant separating from the mixture.
Gotya, I guess I just need to avoid flavorings with ethanol in them or if I do use them, keep the percentages low, cuz they're really giving me an unbearable throat hit. Like sore and red throat the next day. The taste of the juice is just so delicious though :(
I know the feel, quite a few of my mixes contain flavors that use ethanol as a solvent additive. The ethanol needed specifically to dissovle the flavorings will be complexed to it in solutlion. All additional ethanol will eventually evaporate. I just let my mixes sit for a few days with the cap resting on top and no tip. This lets any excess out, prevents mixture separation, and keeps dirty out while it breathes.
Do you shake them during this cap off time? I've tried that with my mixes, but I don't see much relief from the harshness until a week or so later, even then its def still there and me gritting my teeth a bit. I'm prob just way too impatient with steeping, plus since I'm a big fruit flavor fan, many of the flavorings I use contain ethanol and often each flavor I use in a recipe has ethanol in it so that could be why the mixes are so harsh for so long. Also, do you think increasing the pg/vg from say 25/75% to around 40/60 help quicken the evaporation process?
