For new folks here, this is in reference to /u/fizzmustard's popular 'nana cream.
Getting LA Banana Cream (clear) is a pain in the ass, and that nuclear Yellow #5 food coloring in regular LA Banana Cream looks worrisome. Some people have suggested here that TFA Banana Cream actually makes a better substitute. It does indeed taste very good, but contains a whole bunch of Acetoin. Also something in that makes my sinuses go into purge mode. I have never had any juice make my nose run before, and that does it. Every. Single. Delicious. Time.
So I decided to try it with some TFA Banana Cream DX that I had apparently bought and forgot I had. Thanks, past me! This is awesome. It is just as good as the regular TFA Banana Cream! This might also make for a nice substitute in /u/Botboy141's Ba'nana Cream ... because let's face it; you're going to have to go shopping for those ingredients anyhow and you might as well grab this too.
Bonus: No more runny nose! I've been dripping it all afternoon.

but diketones are so tasty =P
For the amount of Acetoin in Banana Cream you'd think you could taste it, but I honestly never detected the buttery notes on that. There really seems to be no discernible difference between the DX and Original Recipe.
I'll have to pick up some of the DX I guess to try it out. Virtually every other DX version makes me want to puke...
Try TFA Apricot in it, while dropping down the dragonfruit % to like 1 or .5%. I'd say 3% Apricot added on top of that and it might be close. I haven't done apricot with dragonfruit though, just quince, so you'll have to let me know how it is.
I do not have apricot. I was thinking about trying a tiny bit of pear with the strawberry, but apricot sounds good!
I did an analysis of all TFA flavors that smell/taste like they could be in it here.
TL;DR TFA arpicot shares a lot of the same ingredients with many possible 'NC flavors.
Nice! I saved that post. I like your method of comparing the volatiles. I was spending a lot of time on TFA's CSA listings this morning for a different recipe. You can really learn a lot about a flavor when you see how it shares similar qualities with others. I know way more about artificial *berry flavoring today than I did yesterday.
I got my Apricot in... I'm super glad I only bought a 15ml of this. I mixed just 1% in and it's so nasty. It varies between wine and sweaty socks. I mean wow, that is just horrible and completely overpowers all of the other flavors.
D= No way! It's probably my favorite flavor right now. Try mixing up my new 'NC recipe in 10mL and see if it's still there. I'll do a 4% apricot tester to see if I can find out what's up. Where did you buy the flavor?
Next shop I do I'm gonna have to get me some of that dragon fruit because I swear the bastard's in fucking everything
mixing this right now!
edit: this is great. i've only had botboy141 banana cream from his shop but this tastes really really good. thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know. It's nice to know people are actually trying stuff I post, even if I can't take credit for the recipe. I'm presently vaping this right now in one hand while I thumb type this out on my phone!
Oh yeah, I made that too. To me, the strawberry comes through stronger but it's a strawberry AND banana flavor. I suppose the original banana is much stronger.
It's good though. I made a large bottle and I'm looking forward to the flavor changing as it ages.
I find dx to be weak like Ukraine. I had to up my percentages. Anyone else have that issue?
The only weirdness I've had is with DX Vanilla Cup Cake. That shit takes months to steep. Like seriously 2 months of natural steeping before it is fully blossomed. I tested speed steeping on a heated UC with no result. I'm going to try a combo of heated UC and milk frothing every 30 minutes next.
Weird. I also get a pepper taste from vanilla bean ice cream. Left it cap off for 2 days and whenever I mix with it it still tastes like pepper. Smells fine
Interesting! I actually can't stand Vanilla Bean Ice Cream anymore after a few batches of Mustard Milk. I've never tasted pepper (are you sure about the quality/condition of your Nic?) but the butter flavor is killing it for me. Even after steeping for a couple of weeks that butter is just too strong. It started to actually annoy me. I got some Vanilla Bean Gelato in my last order, so I'll be trying his DA Free version instead.
I've been accused of "sticking up for DA/AP" on ECR because I am not caught up in the furor over it. But I find myself moving away from those flavors for entirely unrelated reasons.
Placing an order with TFA right now, almost out of supplies.
Googled "Banana Cream DX" and stumbled upon this!
I'm giving this a shot, thanks for the post!
Enjoy! This is still my favorite recipe! I make it in 120mL batches all the time because my friends love it too.
Order came in! I ended up making 360ml, and I'm in love with this! I ended up cleaning and rewicking all of my RDAs too, so that I can live off of this for at least a few months.
Thanks again! I can't wait to see how great it is after steeping (I did a quick "bring it up to 200F" steep in an Erlenmeyer flask to help shake it up before transferring to bottles, but right now it's amazing)!
