So I do know that ethyl maltol and maltol mute flavors, but from what I've VERY persistently searched, I've found that maltol-heavy muting should turn a juice into "just sweet air".
What confuses me in one of my maltol-heavy recipes (maltol from ripe strawberry, bav cream) is that when fresh, the flavor is awesome, sweet and punchy as expected. After just a few days, the juice smells even more delightful but when vaped, zero flavor, and weirdly absolutely zero sweetness (even though mix has added sweetener).
So where's the sweetness?
Could you post the exact recipe? It would make it easier for people to help you. Just off the top, Strawberry Ripe is almost all high notes and can very easily "disappear" without any supporting base notes so I'm not surprised that happened. Either way I can't really say for sure until you post the recipe.
Sure!
8% ripe strawberry (tpa)
4% dragonfruit (tpa)
3% bananas foster (m&p)
2% bav cream (tpa)
1% sweetener (tpa)

If you are going for more of a base strawberry flavor I'd recommend using TFA Strawberry in place of Strawberry Ripe. It has deeper more noticeable flavor than the ripe version. I would also drop the level of sweetener down.
Can I ask a question real quick? So I'm newer, does when he says maltol in the strawberry ripe and bav cream, do those flavors already contain the maltol? Or does he add it?
I believe he is referencing the fact both of those flavors contain ethyl maltol/maltol.
TFA has msds available for their flavors. Ethyl maltol is a sweetener with strawberry/cotton candy/sweet nuances when used in different % from what Ive read, and can also mute flavors. http://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/specsheetlist.aspx
a comparison of flavors in a recipe I use, let me know that butyric acid is a component in 2 of the flavors. which can have a weird taste to me at higher% from which I can conclude - I shouldnt add 8%x then try to add 7%y if I dont want that weird Butyric acid taste
edit: the numbers above are arbitrary, and made up for an example.
