Has anyone noticed a difference between VG bought in store versus online?
submitted about 10 years ago by MrsCustardSeesYou

Almost out of VG and want to mix a few more batches before I call it good for the week.

I know walmart and, I think, Tractor Supply carry VG?

Would Michaels or Target or some other place carry it?

I know I am supposed to look for USP VG. Has anyone ever bought some VG from a store in person and had it not be the same quality as online purchases?

I called the company to ask. Some old guy called me back and said it was USP. It was an odd exchange.

That is impressive. Shipping said it was only around $26 which is also impressive. Alas, way to much for me at the moment.

I only use essential depot and have been paying $12 a quart on amazon. Super pissed/excited now though that I will get 10x the VG for just 4x the cost!

Duda is cheaper: http://www.amazon.com/Gallon-Glycerin-Derived-Vegetable-Glycerine/dp/B00KEHRF6G/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1437008826&sr=8-4&keywords=glycerin+gallon

Shipping on ED is $42 bringing it to $90. You can get a 5 gallon pail for $95, or 4x1gallon for $87, free shipping on Amazon.

If you want to source your VG locally my suggestion is to look for NOW glycerin at your local health food store. The store-brand glycerin sold at Walmart, Walgreens, CVS and Rite-Aid is all relabeled Humco glycerin and while it is USP some of us feel that it's pretty far from the best you can use for DIY. My experience with Humco glycerin is that it has kind of a soapy aftertaste and I personally don't use it.

The best VG I've ever used was from Procter and Gamble, with NOW glycerin running a close second; hell, it may even be P&G. If you choose to order online most everybody I've heard is happy with the stuff that comes from Essential Depot.

Hope this helps -

I did buy a 6oz from walmart today but I will look for the NOW brand. Thanks for the heads up!

I've bought soap making supplies from Essential Depot and find their products really good from what I've experienced thus far.

You can find it in the skin care section of most health food stores; I know Whole Foods also sells it. Bottle looks like this -

And a store locator -

Where did you find P&G glycerine? I want to try their "Superol" but I can't find any distributor that sells it in small enough amounts.

Found it at a regional vapefest some years ago. Sadly, that vendor isn't in business any more. I'm afraid I don't have a line on the stuff any more either :-(

Just make sure it's USP grade

It is USP, and probably one of the best VG's in the UK, I use nothing but Boot's VG

He's in the UK. They don't adhere to our Yank USP standards.

CVS has USP grade, doesnt say it on the bottle sometimes but the PCU matches the online one that does say USP

Tractor supply has PG but not VG at least mine doesn't. Also the walmarts that do have it are like $4 for like 100-125 ml I believe. Expensive

Thanks. Yeah, I noticed. On the other hand, shipping costs can be expensive for the VG because of it's weight. I need to compare costs plus shipping to just expensive store costs.

I use Tractor Supply PG. I've never seen them carry VG.

PG goes for about $19 there for about a gallon.

Badass! I had no idea they carried PG and I'm almost out. I think I'll run to tractor supply tomorrow.

I use Walmart vg all the time. 4 bucks for 177ml. It's USP and locally available.

I'm in UK but buy all my VG from Boots pharmacy and its great. Been using it for ages and its £1.39 for 200ml which actually works out cheaper to buy five bottles than buying a litre online for £10, and that's before factoring in postage.

I get 170ml bottles at Publix occasionally. They run about $2.50. Relabeled Humco.

Super Supplements carries 16 oz bottles for about $8 should you have one near.

Tractor Supply only has PG I think. Any drug store like CVS or Walgreens should have VG. It only comes in small amounts and is comparatively expensive compared to buying online. I buy my VG on Amazon and use prime shipping.

Thanks. Yeah, it did look expensive but at least I can do a few bottles tonight then wait for it.
