roughly 50 flavors from 4 or 5 different brands. 1 liter VG, 250ml PG, 1 liter of 100mg/ml nic. Funny thing is that I thought that the order would slow down my purchases, but it never did.

This does not bode well for my bank account. I actually am getting my part time 2nd job @ Starbucks back to pay for this hobby. I already know how much I love tinkering with vaping and the search for the perfect flavor is ON!
First order was $250, all from Wizard Labs. Spent another $2500 over the next 2 months =).

Nope, didn't start purchasing for the business til ~12-15 months in. Took me 4 months to scrape together the funds to have the materials on hand to get up and running.
Was mainly loading up on flavors, slightly larger sizes than 8ml from WL, picking up the entire line of FA, CAP, TFA that I was missing, a chunk of FW, some INW and some HS.
start small. You may not like DIYing (about 70% of people I've talked to drop it) then you're left with all this stuff. You can always get more flavors down the line.

I feel you but I know people in the same boat and they still dropped it. You also have to consider all the different flavor companies. Most people have a preference. I mean, it's your money... but I'm just giving advice based on experience and talking to people. I'd buy a small amount of flavor from various brands until you know you like it
Just the Nude Nicotine $30 dollar starter pack. I don't know how I feel about making a huge order before you've even mixed your first batch. I liked starting small and then figuring out exactly what I wanted.. After my first mix from Nude Nicotine, i found a couple recipes I liked and took it from there.
I just placed my first order the other day, and I felt the same way. I didn't want to buy a bunch of stuff with the possibility of not enjoying it as much as I thought I would and then dropping it. Would be such a waste (though I'm almost positive I'll love DIY, better to be safe than sorry). I bought the basic supplies which included a scale and enough flavors to make a couple of clones of juices I know I like. Hopefully that will be enough to get me setup and if I enjoy it from there I'll definitely be placing a bigger order.
I started small with a $20 starter kit (waste of money except for the nic, PG and VG) and about 20 flavors from Wizard Labs. It quickly got out of hand after that. I'm afraid to count or total it up but within a couple of months I had upwards of 400 flavors and about $1,500 (or more) in it.
$25. Seem to spend about $30/week (but only just started.)
Keeping it slow and steady. If I can do 2 or 3 good recipes with lots of feedback a week, then I'll slowly accummulate enough flavors to create something new, experiment with, or build up other recipes I come across. I tend to get new hobbies once or twice a year though, so I know better than to go crazy while I'm still educating myself online and in person with how things actually go with, say, the mixing process.
Seven flavours, and a 50ml bottle of nicotine. We got the PG and VG premixed from a local shop because we can't find it for sale over the counter here (Canada). Mostly fruit stuff, and a vanilla cupcake flavour. We have to acquire a scale and bottles before proceeding.
$97 on BCV about two weeks ago, 500ml pg/vg and like 35ish flavors. i was shopping for about a week before i finally narrowed it down. the funny part was that i place another $30 order about a week after and im waiting for a check to clear to place another $100 order from a few other sites. over 50 flavors, mixed about 30 recipes so far, still havn't tried mustard milk.
there's just soooo many flavors, as soon as you see a nice looking recipe with a lot of good feed back and there's a flavor or three that you don't have. i literally always have a bcv tab open and anytime i see one i don't have i toss it in. but i try not to let myself go over my weekly juice purchase amount from before i started DIY. eventually i have more than enough flavors...right?
I spent more than I should have, Probably $300 in the first 2 weeks between tfa, wizard labs and nude nicotine. I now recomended to all friends and newbies to only buy flavors for 3 or 4 known recipes at first, then use those flavors to experiment. Helps get started without getting discouraged.

It seems like such a short list for so high a price tag...I just keep telling myself it will pay off in the end.
Now if it would only all get here before I lose my mind with impatience.
About $60, for a few crap flavors I picked randomly, and syringes... shortly after ordered a bunch of TFA for recipes from the sidebar, and they were okay, but soo plain and bleh....
I stuck with those for a while... but dreaded mixing cuz of syringes.
Finally got a scale, EUREKA! And after that I was spending what seemed to be 150 to 300 every couple of weeks on flavors, for other people's recipes and I'd throw more flavors into my cart to reach my free shipping lol. Now I try to just grab a couple flavors here and there when people are raving about them. I have so much to work with currently, (much of which i haven't even sampled by itself,) I just can't see a real reason to keep purchasing atm.
Between work, Judo training, and the MMO I play.... I wish there was more time in the day. :(
Does using a scale affect the process or end result a lot besides not having to faff about with syringes?
Because I'm getting annoyed having to pop the droppers off the bottles (I don't really trust going drop for drop especially if I'm making a larger batch) and then drip juices everywhere, rinse syringes in between every different liquid so I don't cross contaminate, etc...
The main thing holding me back from getting a scale right now is, are the weights of liquids consistent across the board? I'm not gonna get a wild variation in how much one flavour weighs compared to another, regardless of what brand or flavour or concentration or whatever? What about VG, surely that's heavier per ml since its more viscous? I really don't want to have to know exact weights of all my different liquids!
This is probably gonna sound like such a dumb question to ask but, hey, I don't know the answer. Can you put me out of my misery!
Yes, they all differ in densities, and everything is usually more per gram than each ml. I believe nicotine is also lighter than PG. you need a calculator that can handle it for you VG is much heavier than PG.
For example, I can input individual densities for each flavor (which is saved). Im lazy tho, and just use the default, and it shouldn't ever be more than 5% off. I'm okay with some flavors being 95% or more accurate.
But yea, a lot of people will input the exact density into their calculator.
Anyway, mixing by weight will make it easier to mix, will probably be 3x faster, and no cleanup... Just don't spill that bottle of sweet cream on your carpet.
