Make a spreadsheet. If you keep track of your expenses, and look at that before making any purchase, you will find it can be a powerful motivator. My $-saved-from-not-smoking vs. $-spent-vaping Total is like a a scoreboard to me now. I want to keep that number from turning red (again).

The Recipe Calculator in the sidebar allows you to enter in the cost of your supplies. When you create a new recipe it gives you a cost per bottle. My 30ml bottles are around $1.50 - $2.25 depending on who I'm making it for (nic levels). Plus, Instead of spending $120 per month on juice, I'm only spending about $30. More money for mods :)

I added up what I was spending on smokes for my GF and myself a month (around 200 a month) and cut that in half for my vape budget. 100$ a month keeps us in all the supplies we could ever want, plus I try to set aside bits of the leftover each month for new batteries/cotton/occasional gear upgrades. Yes, that should work. You let it age for the flavor molecules to react between themselves.

The ideal nicotine would not change the flavor at all.

You could convert your flavors in your recipe to a base and store the premade base flavor separately. When it is time to make the juice you would just add the flavor base at whatever flavoring level the original flavors added up to and add any extra PG, VG, Nic that you would need.

The nicotine does indeed affect the flavor of the final product, as a muting effect it overpowers the flavor, especially in higher nicotine concentrations and in cream flavors. But since you're making them in bulk and as a favor, and the best steeping method is time in a cool dark place, just make your base and add the nicotine for them, and their juice will improve over a few weeks.

I think tfa stuff comes in like 8ml vials. depending on my mood and what I want to vape, some stuff will go very quickly. It all depends on what your recipes call for.

If you make stuff lille mother's milk and Nana cream,strawberry might go quick depending on how many MLS of juice you are making. If that was 10 MLs of strawberry, and you are making 30mls of juice, you might use half of it, depending on the recipe you're using.

Generally bakery, tobacco, and cream flavors improve with curing. Fruits may calm a little after sitting, but don't change as much imo.

Every flavoring is used at a different percentage. FA strawberry is going to be much stronger than TFA strawberry. This is just something you'll pick up as you go. It helps to look at other people's recipes that use the same ingredients to get an idea of where to start with a flavor. I have mixes that range from 4% total to 23% total.

The generally recognized as stronger flavorings are:

Inawera, Hangsen, flavourart, medicine flower, flavorah, DKS,and there are more I'm forgetting.

The generally recognized as weaker flavorings are:

Flavor/perfumers apprentice, flavor west, Capella, lorannes, one on one, and others

Still new to the game but I would not recommend a start kit. Get everything you need from bcv, wizard, ecig express, etc from your own checklist. You wanna get GOOD flavors that will last a while!

I would advise against buying a kit. All kits out currently utilize flavors that aren't used by really anyone in recipes. I would suggest buying the items that a DIY kit contains; syringes, bottles, PG, VG, nicotine, and perhaps most importantly a scale. Then purchase your flavorings from a site like ecigexpress or bullcityvapor, going by what recipes you plan on making. These sites also sell PG, VG, nicotine, and bottles, so you can save on shipping costs by getting them all in one place. The syringes and scale you can get on amazon; syringes are super cheap, just buy a box of 100 and then buy some blunt tips for them. The recommended scale in the sidebar is great, but if you'd rather not spend $50 on a scale, any one that measures down to .01g and has a max load of >100g will work fine.

Buy at least 30 bottles to start, I prefer 15 mL for when I experiment, and have 30mL bottles for when I have a mix I like. EDIT: buy plastic bottles, they weigh less, so you can mix more juice using a 100g scale, and they're much cheaper and easier to store.

All flavorings you get from BCV and ECX will have dripper tops on them, so you won't even use the syringes until you make a purchase from TFA directly(highly advised for any time you purchase more than 5 TFA flavors; better prices and guaranteed fresh.)

Also, go ahead right now and make an account for shop.perfumersapprentice.com (TFA) and then make it a bulk account for future use. TFA Strawberry, Strawberry Ripe, Sweet Cream, Vanilla Swirl, Bavarian Cream, Hazelnut, French Vanilla, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Dragonfruit, and Graham Cracker (clear) are all used a lot in recipes posted here, so you'll want to add them to your collection after finding out whether or not you enjoy DIY.

I sometimes use water to get the ratio of aromas right.

I get a glass of water and drop the aromas in, counting the drops, Capella says 1drop per ounce of liquid.

I used:

• Sweet Strawberry 3 drops

• NY Cheesecake 2 drops

• Sugar cookie 1 drop

• Sweet Guava 1 drop

I liked it, so I changed drop to % and mixed it. As I said above, this I use for finding ratios.

The fact sweet strawberry is more to my liking with the addition of guava and how much of it was found out using this.

steeping rarely makes a bad recipe good...if you try it and hate it, its unlikely youre going to love it in a week-mix single flavor mixes at the lowest recommended point- build a 'vocabulary' of flavors-

Does that scale have 2 models? PS 8 - 800 only does .1g readings; where the PS 8 - 300 reads .01g. Ideally you would want the PS 8 - 300. It is confusing so I am not sure if their are 2 models of this version or if there is 2 modes of operation.

As far as flavor weight calculations go: Each flavor has its own weight that could be a bit lower or higher than 1.0g per ml. Most people use the default weight of 1g / ml as it is easier. I am unsure if ELR has the weights of each individual flavor or not. I use a standalone calculator for the sidebar.

As u/davesnothere said, ELR sets the base weight of every flavor to 1mg/ml. It might not be an exact science, but that's not what's important, all you need to be able to do is reproduce results and/or tweak them accordingly. ELR is great for that, I've only ever used that site as my calculator and I couldn't be happier.

Someone had a granola mix vape recipe in the past week. I don't know what the ingredients were but you could do something nutty, salty, and slightly fruity for that.

Pecan pie--crust, brown sugar, whipped cream--or throw in some pumpkin for pumpkin pecan pie

If you want something slightly savory (I haven't yet had a good savory vape but I know they exist) maybe try a maple pecan bacon or a chocolate pecan bacon.

A good MBYC clone should include CA pralines and cream, vanilla custard and tfa's vanilla bean ice cream. Ive gotten pretty close by adding a bit of bavarian cream and caramel to it as well. TFA pecan is pretty strong if I remember correctly, but a pecan pie would be pretty awesome with that flavor! Some pie crust or graham cracker with caramels and cream. YUM I highly suggest against bacon, if you think its okay to vape then you havent been through the torture of actually trying it lol.

I had maraschino cherry by tfa ruin juices at .25%, if it is similar try prediluting it by factor 10 and then use the dilution.

I know TFA Maraschino Cherry is a horrible horrible flavor. It can wreck a juice. I am not sure how the FW is though. I know the review for that particular flavor on flavor west's webpage says that it will crack plastic. Are you mixing this and keeping it in any kind of plastic container?

FW has a single flavor that is a rocket pop and its very likely the vendor that makes the one you like is using that. We had samples come in the other day (cant rememebr the name) and thats literally all it was with a bit of ethyl maltol. I HIGHLY suggest trying that, any cherry from tfa, fw, or ca is alcoholy or tastes like cherry cough syrup. TFA black cherry is decent but wouldnt be good for this recipe. I hear FA has a good cherry but I have never tried it, nor have I ever found a good plain cherry concentrate yet.

Depends. I spent about that much when I first started out; I also got a lot of unnecessary flavors b/c I got a little too carried away. a majority of those flavors are still sitting unused at this point.

Don't waste your money. The research you did was absolutely correct. You would have to vape A LOT of liquid to equal a cup of coffee.

FW does sell the caffeine though... I picked some up a few months ago to play with energy shots. Just put a small amount in your coffee or water for a 5 hour energy drink mix, but don't waste it in a vape. That's all marketing hype. :)

Capellas watermelon is stronger while tfas can be kind of light sometimes. I prefer to use 2% capellas sweet watermelon with 10% tfa watermelon. If youre just going to use the capellas by itself i think 4-6% would work.

depends on the flavorings. MF always has a bit of throat hit for me, as does a lot of INW stuff. I've noticed that stuff without diketones generally has more throat hit imo. Also Ive read of some people adding etoh in small amounts, never done it, and won't bc I dislike the taste of any alcohol in eliquid. Also, citric acid fucks coils, but adds a little bit of TH for me, as well as koolada.

citrus flavors tend to have a heavy throat hit.

Flavorings with alcohol in them usually have a decent throat hit when used.

I have about 90 flavors, so here is my solution. I bought 2 Ziplok weathertight boxes at walmart, roughly 24x12x6. I picked them because of the lid having foam inside the top so that when you snap the clasps closed it is then airtight.( all those smells drove both of us nuts). Then went back to the crafts section and bought 2 thick foam blocks that needed only a little trimming to fit inside. Lastly took 1 inch paddle bit and made 48 holes. Now, all alphabetical, and quickly taken out and put away, very mobile. And no smells!! Another small tote for misc and now everything stays put away in a corner of the closet till needed.

I picked up some wood from Home Depot for about $15 and threw this together in about an hour. I made it to hold up to 30ml size bottles. It has been working out pretty good for me.

I have a couple kids in the house. I just keep all my stuff in a couple cabinets up high in the man cave and door to the cave gets locked when I'm not in it. I also keep the kids and pets out of the room when I'm mixing.

Every ingredient except dragon fruit containsethyl maltol, some a lot (>10%), ethyl maltol is a sweetener, which if used to much, mutes flavour.

Use less flavour overall and maybe substitute Bavarian cream and vanilla swirl for another source of vanilla.

As to the vanilla substitute, vanillin gets sold by them, or look something up with ethyl vanillin here.

Nothing in particular really. I formulated it as a MAX VG flavor from the get go with the intention of releasing a line of juice that was only available in MAX VG at some point. I never did release that line but this works well in all devices at whatever PG/VG ratio folks like without much of a flavor change (based on my feedback).

It was just developed to be minimum flavor percentage required to provide a satisfying vape @ MAX VG.

Nude Nicotine and RTS Vapes are both good quality and used a lot.

As for fully covered, absolutely! It's not that the fumes will get ya, it's to protect your skin. If you splash, spill or otherwise get some of that on you, wash immediately! Your heart rate will climb, you'll get a jittery feeling... just not good at all. Once it's mixed down to a "normal" vaping strength (3mg, 6mg), it's "mostly harmless", just like earth.

When you buy nicotine, you can get it in many different concentrations up to 100mg/ml. Many DIYers buy nicotine at a higher strength than they would vape (I buy 100mg/ml, vape 3mg/ml) so as to make their nicotine purchase stretch as far as possible. You'd use much less in that case. For example, I use a very small amount (less than 2ml) of nicotine solution in a 30ml bottle of e-liquid.

So the calculator needs to know both at what strength the nicotine you are adding has in it, and at what strength you want the final product.

When you buy nicotine, it can either be in a solution of PG or VG (or both). Because you are aiming for a specific VG/PG ratio, the calculator needs to know what your nicotine came in so it can calculate that into how much VG/PG you put in (if you need 10ml of VG to get to your desired ratio, and your nic is in VG and you need 3ml of nicotine solution, you'd only want to put 7ml of plain VG to get a total of 10ml VG)

These can be used as dilutants/thinners in DIY e-liquid, but many (most?) recipes don't. It's just there in case you do need it.

Yes, but when I looked at it the savings was almost nothing compared to normal juice from them. I ended up buying PG, VG, and nicotine from Wizard labs for much cheaper.

It is almost impossible. I think reddit limits what you can view to 1000 posts max. However with some search query strings you can come very close, but it will be a pain in the ass.

Now you will notice after "timestamp%3A" there is 1 set of numbers followed by a 2'cd set. Those are Epoch Timestamps. To get those timestamps you need to use an converter. As you see above the first set of numbers is 1339126440 which corresponds to June 8 2012 03:34:00 GMT and the numbers 1341718440 correspond to July 8 2012 03:34:00 GMT.

Now you have to convert 2 dates and replace those numbers with the corresponding epoch times.

It is a pain to go back that far, but it is the only way I know how.

The first step is going to be to lurk around here for a while. scope out some recipe's that sound good to you and try and see if people put some review on it. Look on the SideBar and you will see some common flavor companies that are used.

I would mainly suggest starting out with TFA, CAP and FW. (common abbreviations on side bar)

Also you will need to scope out common mixing supplies, then your VG, PG and nic.

I would suggest just coming here often and going through some threads and absorbing a bit of info.

There are some useful calculators you will find linked in the side bar. These are needed so your not trying to do the math all the time. calculators make it a plug and play process (for the most part)
