Samquanch - A Really Good Blueberry Trail Mix Thing.
submitted about 10 years ago by NotCharlesManson

Hey, you greasy bastards. I've been tweaking this for a few months and have finally dialed it in where I want it, so I decided I would share. This works very well as a shake-n-vape, but obviously gets better after a couple days.

I've been trying to get away from all the strawberry cream bullshit for a while. As tasty as some of it may be if it's done right, it's getting old for my taste buds. With that being said, I know a lot of people ask about a good blueberry flavor. I don't think there is a single blueberry flavor that is amazing to me. I've tried probably 7 or 8 different blueberry flavors with decent results, but nothing that really sticks out in a recipe with other flavors playing off of each other. TFA Blueberry Wild, FA Bilberry, and FLV Blueberry Muffin have been my favorites so far, so I've been trying to play with those to get a good sweet and savory blueberry. I'm going to have to give a shout to /u/the_perrycox for sharing his Sasquatch-ish recipe with me a few months back, because this is the main portion of my recipe.

Samsquanch is basically a blueberry-nut trail mix that has a hint of cream in the background. Loads of blueberry up front, though.

Breakdown time.

With Blueberry Wild, I feel like you need a lot (~8%) to get a decent blueberry flavor. FA Bilberry is the perfect pair for this flavor. It gives the Wild what seems to be missing: real blueberry taste. I don't really care for Bilberry on its own, as it seems to not stick around after a few days, and is too "earthy" for me. It's almost like you're eating the entire blueberry plant if it's used above 2%. But that's probably just me. FLV Blueberry Muffin is amazing, but only if it's mixed with another blueberry to take it out of that "perfumey" hint I get from it. FA Cookie seems to play with the Blueberry Muffin to bring out more of the muffin, or desert taste. CAP Harvest Berry is one of those flavors that I heard everyone loved about 8 months ago, so I got 4 ounces. Aaaaaand I've used maybe 2ml out of that. I just don't care for it. BUT. It really adds something unique to this recipe. It seems to brighten everything up and keeps it from being too dull. I really feel like it might be the "secret ingredient" in this recipe. FW Hazelnut lends a buttery-nutty taste that I love. It's what takes this from a blueberry cream to a blueberry trail mix taste. TFA Sweet Cream felt like the best cream to use here. It's what /u/the_perrycox has in his recipe, and to be honest, everything else I've tried falls short. It just seems to work here.

In my normal fashion, I like to make sure you guys read my shitty rambling before I give you the link. It's a fuckin' Samsquanch, boys!

It was an interesting read, too.

That sounds fuckin' delicious! I would have to substitute bilberry with a couple of drops of blackberry because I fuckin' hate bilberry. De-ee-ee-ecent!

You're in the wrong post for unshitty ramblings, old buddy. Probably even the wrong subreddit, to be honest.

I lol'd, thanks pal. Your rambling ain't as poopy as you make it out to be.

So I have FLV blueberry, not muffin, FA Hazelnut, not FW, & the 4ml vial of TFA Sweet Cream i ordered a year ago is at my buddies house(I don't like it).

I also happen to dislike Bilberry & don't own Harvest Berry, so I think I'll try:

  • Blackcurrant FA .5%
  • Blueberry INW 2%
  • Blueberry FLV .5%
  • Pancake NF 1%
  • Biscuit INW 1%
  • Grapes INW .2%
  • Hazelnut or Walnut FA .5%
  • Yogurt FA .5-1%

I'll experiment in a day or two.

Looks good! I have FA Yogurt out of all those haha. How is the INW Blueberry? It was going to be the next on my list.

Have you tried this with TFA Bavarian Cream? I think that would work out better than sweet cream

  1. Recipe sounds amazing.

2)) I have all but Blueberry Muffin FLV because I've shied away from Flavorah because many of their flavors state to contain 'naturally occurring diacetyl.' Does anyone have more details on this or can calm my fears somewhat? Also why would Strawberry contain it but not Blueberry Muffin?

by NotCharlesMansonabout 10 years ago

Thanks! You might be able to get away with replacing it with 2-4% more Wild, .5% more Bilberry, and adding 1-2% FW Yellow Cake if you have it. It's not going to be the same, but it might even be better!

I can't speak on the DA content of their flavors. It is pretty strange that Strawberry would contain it though. /u/abdada?

Diacetyl is a fermentation byproduct so it isn't too shocking.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a naturally occurring form of malolactic fermentation. From nature's perspective it makes sense: increase the mouthfeel reward pleasure in order to promote animals eating the fruit meat and crap out seeds for propagation.

Fascinating! I wonder how nature hasn't used evolution to the benefit of man by secreting diacetyl from our wieners.

Awww yiss! I love the alterations you made, sounds awesome! I need to eventually get on the Flavorah bandwagon. I've sitting just over 300 different flavors though, so I've taken somewhat of a sabbatical from buying anything new!

Thanks for the mention, and I'm glad someone out there was able to enjoy one of my random recipes!

Always do, pal! Working on anything exciting lately?

Honestly, I've been pretty content just mixing up and tinkering with the recipes I currently have, as well as what pops up here and catches my eye.

I've been working on my BoC clone a lot, but nothing to the point of obsession. I've re-worked it significantly though, and it's at a point where it's stupidly close but missing something.

Inawera has been the only thing I've been sporadically picking up. I've come to realize they are truly phenomenal, and exceptionally strong. I've begun incorporating the lemons and mints and all that kind of thing. Their blueberry is crazy good, but like botboy said, it's like Blueberry Wild became that Thailand Pimp and did a bunch of steroids. I've got ~15 of their flavors, and I can't get enough.

How necessary is the FW Hazelnut? I have TFA's. Thanks for sharing!

TFA Hazelnut is what is used in VTNW's original Sasquatch. The difference between the FW and TFA is night and day, and will almost certainly provide a different taste. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, especially if you're fond of VTNW's sasquatch.

Well, considering Sasquatch is my favorite ejuice by a good amount (been through about 500mls), I guess I should be okay then :) Looking forward to this one, just need some bilberry, but that's already in my next order.

I made two Sasquatch clones so far, one based on what you had posted a while back with Harvest Berry (sans the HB), but I'm just starting DIY so they're not fully steeped yet.

Thanks for the input!

Try this out, you should hopefully have em on hand! It may be a little heavy handed on the sweet cream, but damn it's real close.

  • 8% TFA Blueberry Wild

  • 1.5% TFA Hazelnut

  • 1.5% TFA Sweet Cream

I like FW's better, as it seems to give more of a creamy/buttery hint. TFA's would probably work here, but I haven't tried it with this recipe.

I want to make this. I have everything but the bilberry. I have tried to buy that so many times and everyone is always out..pain in the ass.
