Ohoi thar!
I was recently on a Nicks Blissfull Brews binge - Specially the Loop Ninja. This liquid has a very pronounced cereal aspect which was lovely.
Now - For me, cereals should not have fruits added for flavour (Think Cornflakes!), and I wanted to do a vanilla/cornflake kinda thing.
All the cereal recipes I've been loking at has had the fruit aspect, and I kinda like them, but my "Unicorn" is still out there.
What would be a good starting point?
Perhaps small amounts of TFA Rice crunchies and Acetyl Pyrazine? AP can taste like corn-chips when it gets stronger. It's a nutty toasted bread kind of flavor.
So it's not just me who made something that tasted like Fritos?
I was gonna recommend rice crunchies as well. I know OP said they were trying to avoid fruits, but a small amount of lemon sicily is almost always in my cereal mixes.
A bunch of the fruit loops recipes I see use bergamot in very low % for that crisp cereal note.
Is that why that's there? I thought the Cereal Killah clones were mostly an exercise in throwing together as many citrus fruits from as many manufacturers as possible. I haven't tried it in anything else or on its own. Does it not have a strong lemon flavor? I just sniffed the bottle and my world disappeared under an olfactory overload of lemon zest.
..You sure you're not thinking of yellow cake+meringue?
Bergamot is like a cross between a grapefruit and an orange. I get a slight peppery note to FA's Bergamot and FLV's Orange Citrus.
Yep honestly make the Cereal Killa recipe floating around without the FA Bergamot, then add it and you'll facepalm. It doesn't add the cupcake/cream note (meringue+cake) but that sharp almost wheaty bite to a fruit loop is most definitely the bergamot. It's used in a very very low percentage compared to the lemon content.
E: actually reading my post out loud, I wondered if this trick only works with the Cereal killa clone because of the high amount of citrus already.
All very good suggestions.
Currently I'm experimenting with berry crunch - still only getting weak berries though, not so much crunch :(
I also read in a looper clone thread that a low amount of hazelnut has yielded successful results - ala soggy cereals in the bowl.
I've played with tpa fruit circles, but that tastes kinda like my bathroom descaler smells..
Rice crunchies is on my to buy list, but the other half has given fairly harsh instructions to not melt the plastic at my local b&m :D
I was also considering some obscure waffle-esque concoction and dairy milk - input?
