Diy noob and desperate.
submitted about 10 years ago by supersandraa

I dabbled a little bit in diying two years ago and with my handy dandy calculator and flavors from Totally Wicked, I actually managed to come up with a few flavors I loved.

Fast forward to two weeks ago, I started vaping again and placed the same exact order. Recreated a great coffee vape. Got more inspired and ordered a whole bunch of flavors from Capella. Suddenly, everything I make is bland with either no flavor or just the slightest hint.

The coffee juice I made before tasted good with an hour's steeping time. The coffee juice I made tonight tasted like nothing, all night.

I made mixes with 90% VG all the way down to 60%. I used 3% flavor up to 25%. I tested flavors with my aspire atlantis and my boyfriend's dripper. I shook all the bottles before and after mixing. No flavor.

Out of desperation, I decided all of my concentrates magically lost flavor but I swished one around in my mouth and boom, instant pomegranate.

Somebody please help figure this out because I have no more ideas why nothing tastes like anything! :(

It's either over flavor, or vapers toungue. It also depends on what you've been eating or drinking.

For example, I quickly found red whine will prevent me from tasting practically any juice.

Drink LOTS OF WATER!

Not entirely sure if it would help, but try adding a slice or 2 of cucumber to water; it's a great palate cleanser.

This happens to me sometimes too, and I either chalk it up to evolving tastes (juices I used to love taste nasty now) or the dreaded olfactory fatigue (juices I still love dropping flavor). Switching to menthol helps, but I also really ramp up my water intake as well. It's easy to get dry mouth and general dehydration when you vape, especially when you're DIYing and testing juice all the time.

Sounds like "vaper's tongue". Try vaping strong flavors like mint, menthol or cinnamon and see if that does help. I sometimes just vape unflavoured juice. After a few days you will surely be able to taste your juices again.

That's what I'm hoping it is, although the boyfriend couldn't taste anything either. Hopefully we both have vaper's tongue -.-

Don't overdo the flavoring sometimes it makes it mute. Try some recipes off here as well.

I started at 3% and went up and it was still bland :/ Before tackling a recipe I want to at least get a simple one flavor juice to taste like something.

Give us a recipe you tried to make. that will definitely help alot. Also like if you got coffee grounds around take a deep wiff of those.

Started with 8% Mocha, 4% hazelnut and 3% caramel, 80% VG. Not a recipe, just a guess that I was going to work off of. No flavor, so since I assumed I had vaper's tongue to coffee flavors, I tried 5% raspberry and 5% graham cracker. Again nothing.

At that point I started at 3% raspberry and speed steeped, vaped it, added two more drops, speed steeped, vaped, repeat till I'm guessing 25% flavoring.

You swished a flavoring around in your mouth? Jesus

You vaporize flavors made for food into your lungs? Jeeze....

I'm using Capella flavors, and as I understand it you can use most flavorings for baking and candy..

I was being a smart-ass. All the flavors we use were made to be eaten. Acting shocked that you tasted one is kinda silly.

Pretty sure I read somewhere in the sidebar that this helps you get an idea of what the flavor will taste like.

Add a drop of it to a shotglass filled with water than swish that in your mouth not straight flavoring lol.

Or you can add a drop to an ounce (I think it's an ounce) of whipped cream (actual whipped cream, not the flavoring), mix it up and try that. There are people who use this method and it seems to work well. Just for the love of god please don't ever put straight flavoring in your mouth again. I'm not saying you're stupid, but what you did really was. Also, you were lucky this time; if that flavor was something like TFA Caramel Cappuccino, TFA Ripe Banana, or some other god awful, horribly strong flavor you would probably never be able to taste again.
