Lost in the art of DIY
submitted about 10 years ago by professional_skier

I just started researching DIY juice a few weeks ago. I'm really enjoying the hobby so far. I'm about to order my first supplies and I've hit a roadblock. I'm unsure of which base to buy. Do I purchase a 50/50 mix of pg/vg or do I buy separate bottles of each? I'm starting out with 0mg because I rarely vape anything higher.

Can someone supply some insight? I'm ordering from canvapes.

I always buy separate bottles of PG and VG this way I can change my ratio's as I want.

Same here. I love having control over my ratios.

Can anyone suggest a Canadian nicotine vendor? Just want to have it just in case.

Check /u/BooksofMagic's post history. He seems to know what he's talking about when it comes to Canadian vendors and nicotine.

Actually I'll quit being lazy.. here's one of his posts

http://imgur.com/Po4lDQc is this order ready to go? I have latex gloves and masks already. Let me know if I'm missing anything

I got graduated cylinders and pipettes for my order instead of syringes.

I don't DIY yet and my order hasn't even finished processing yet. Just my take on it.

Get your PG from the local pharmacy. You may need to check a couple before you find one that will sell it, but you can get 500ml of USP grade PG for $8. I get mine from the local Walmart Pharmacy.

I'll phone around today and ask. Will they ask why I need it?

They may ask. I found it's best to go in person, dress nice, and bring a tank-based ecig if you have one to show the pharmacist to reassure them it's not for making anything illegal.

Don't forget the scales! I wish that I had listened to more experienced mixers when I started 3 months ago. Last week I got a set of scales, now mixing is so smooth. Mixed 2 30 ml last night in 8 minutes, counting clean-up! I recommend these: AWS LB-501. Got them on Ebay $37. Welcome and good luck!

I have a few scales. A .00 scale and an expensive mg scale. Good thinking though long term.

Buy separate bottles. You just called DIY an art, why would you limit your creations by only buying pre-mixed bases?

I ordered separate bottles. Thanks for the suggestion.

Buy separate bottles, no matter what. I made the mistake of ordering them mixed and now I feel more and more that the PG rate is too high, but I still have so much of that base. :(

Yeah I went with the separate bottles. Makes more sense.

Order all the flavoring you want from them but I've had bad experiences with the nicotine. Especially the VG nic.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!
