I'm sure this has already been asked more than once before but I couldn't find it. I've been mixing since January or February and I never really thought to ask this but, is it better to mix everything at once when you're making a batch of something or is it just as good if you premix large amounts of Nic, VG and PG together and then freeze the solution until you're ready to add it to flavoring on a different date? If it's better to add everything fresh, is it a lot better? Is there anything wrong with premixing like mentioned above? Thanks guys!
This is exactly what I did with my first (and only) DIY order to date. I bought some pre-mixed PG/VG, then put in my nicotine to the level I wanted (6mg). Then, you just add flavor and the pre-made pg/vg/nic base and you are all set.
Also, another reason that I did this was because I have kids and didn't really want to have 100mg/ml nicotine in the house, even if it was locked in the tackle box on the top shelf of my bedroom closet. Pre-mixing everything meant I didn't have to worry about suck a toxic chemical being in my house.
My pg/vg/nic ratios change when you add flavorings, but I really didn't care. My ratios always ended up between 55% and 65% VG, which is what I like for the best mix of clouds, throat hit, and ability to use in tanks and drippers.
That's how I mix but I buy a half gallon premixed at 6mg. Once I add flavoring it knocks it down to around 4.9mg. I order my the mix from here
So...instead of buying NIC@100% and 100%VG I can just buy this in 500ML and not have to worry about adding my NIC in 1.8ML per 30MLs for a 6MG NIC? Because if so, you probably saved me headache.
If you get 6mg premixed base, once you add any flavoring to it, you'll be knocking the nicotine down. So technically, no. The majority of us here opt for controlling the exact amount of nicotine added as well as the VG/PG ratio by going for separate base components.
BUT: if you aren't all that picky about ratio, you could also get a mg base a little higher than 6mg, like 9 or 12, and some extra vg, then flavoring, then adding VG to get the nic down to 6mg.
I don't know that you gain anything other than ease of mixing by doing this.
The flavor concentrates need to permeate this mix through age, heat or a combination of the two.
I did make a 50/50 VG/PG mix that I used for a while for mixing quantities and it made it easier to work with in the 30/70-50/50 range.
Now, I do premix my flavor bases in 30ml bottles so they start integrating with each other.
