Weekly 'Suggest a Recipe for my Flavors' Thread - Week of June 26, 2015
submitted over 10 years ago by AutoModerator

Got a bunch of flavors but not sure how to make them work together? Post your list here, and our team of semi-professional mixologists will make suggestions for you! If you are impatient and want to do this on your own, here are a couple of good links:

  • /u/daath has a nice website that has this functionality, but you will need to register to make it work. It is not very intuitive but if you work with it you can input your flavors and get a list of recipes that you can make. IMO this is the better site if you have the patience to make it work for you. Edit2: to get this to work, first set up an account. Then add your flavors to the stash (under my page / my flavor stash). hit save. Then go back to the front page and click the link next to the search field, "Search by flavor stash". You can select a couple of your flavors and recipes that have those will pop up.
  • This site has a nice big search button with just what you're looking for.

Happy Mixing!

Interesting, very low on the cucumber though? My cucumber flavour focuses on getting as much cucumber flavour and using mint to round it off.

  • 10% cucumber
  • 1-3% sweet fruit (strawberry, pear, raspberry, Jack fruit, dragonfruit)
  • 1-3% tfa peppermint
  • 0.5% koolada

Fruits there to accent the cucumber, pear is my go to favorite. Peppermint even at low percentages gives a very real mint with little menthol. Koolada from 0-0.8% imo.

Nice addition of Peppermint, I never thought of that.

I found Cucumber "peely" and bitter at 10% stand alone, thus I offset with Melon. Also, during Summer, I really enjoy light vapes that don't get in the way of my beer.

I want to make a Pink Lemonade of sorts. I seem to have a habit of rounding off or smoothening out mixes with Vanilla Swirl. I do not want this to taste like ice-cream, but my first attempt was a little harsh. So I'm looking for suggestions to smoothen this out:

  • TFA Sweet Raspberry 8%
  • CAP Lemon Sicily 10%
  • EM 1%

I have marshmallow, vanilla bean ice-cream, vanilla swirl, bavarian cream, sweet cream, whipped cream. Any ideas how to smoothen it out without making it too creamy?

3 points

by ID10-Tover 10 years ago

You don't have to add anything to smooth that out. Try cutting the %s of the Raspberry and Lemon Sicily in half.

Whipped should smooth without adding too much creaminess.

I have a lot of flavor a and honestly don't know how to mix them successfully. Green Apple Vanilla Marshmallow Anise Whiskey Cinnamon Hazelnut Lemon Licorice Menthol Ice menthol Cigar Pear drop

I think that's it. Any suggestions are very welcome

by TheAlmightyDover 10 years ago

Quite a limited range and I don't think a lot of it won't mix well together.

I don't know percentages but maybe

  • apple
  • whiskey
  • cinnamon

Make that the Base flavour. Work out ratios between them by adding a drop of each to a shot glass or small mug and giving it a sniff. Apple too strong? Add more of others. Hopefully you should get a ratio like 4:2:1, 4 parts apple, 2 parts whiskey, 1 part cinnamon.

From there you might want to add marshmallow to sweeten and round out the mix, vanilla to cream and freshen, hazelnut actually might work well. By the end your shot glass will have between 5 and 15 drops in. This is a good indicator of your final flavour. Not exact but along the right idea. Hope that helped

by ihatetoridethebusabout 10 years ago

Try cigar, vanilla, hazelnut. Basenote should be the tobacco rounded with vanilla and a deeper layer of slight hazelnut. 3 : 1 : 0.5 depending on individual strength

Some tobacco flavours work good with fruit, for example ry4 and strawberry. Therefore you could also try cigar and green apple.

Sorry it's off topic but how is the cherry limeade from FW? Hats a favor I've been trying to the down for awhile but always ends up like cough syrup.

Its not too bad, a bit more lime then I would like, has a bit of a gummy bear taste at times :)

So I just ordered my stuff to start diy. Don't have a whole lot of flavors yet, and I got them with single flavors in mind.

• Graham cracker clear (tfa)

• Hazelnut (tfa)

• Toasted almond (tfa)

Would any of these mix well or would there be anything that would complement them well? Thinking of getting some tobacco and coffee flavors. Obviously I'll be getting more. This is just a starting point.

2 points

by Nicobeakover 10 years ago

Heard good things about flv coffee. I've tried FA and INW, either would be a good addition for you. As far as tobacco, grab some tfa ry4 double to mess around with the hazelnut and toasted almond. I'd grab some kind of cream too, Bavarian or vanilla swirl (which is very creamy to me).

1 points

by alwaysatargetover 10 years ago

I was looking at the ry4 double. Almost added it to the order. Tfa sweet cream barely missed the cut (I was ordering from heartland, so I think they only carry tfa). I need to expand to some of the other brands too, so I'll check those out. Thank you.

Those 3 flavors would probably work fine in a recipe 1:1:1, @ around 10-20% total flavoring depending on your preferences and hardware. Personally I would mix those 3 at 5% each for 15% total, and then +/- each by 1% per batch to taste.

In a recipe like that, 3-5 drops per 15ml of a strong tobacco can be heavenly. imo you really need a sweet flavor like caramel to balance out all those savory nuts, graham is kind of sweet but idk if it'll be enough.

1 points

by alwaysatargetover 10 years ago

Thank you. This is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. I'll try a mix of the three at 15% and go from there. I'll check out some tobacco flavors and see which ones have good reviews. Caramel will be on the next order for sure. I was thinking I'd need some sweetness in there somewhere.

by _Laughmore_over 10 years ago

No prob also consider 2:1:1 or 3:2:2 etc and switch out the dominant flavor. After a few mixes of the same flavors you'll have your own sense about it, I still use ratios for unknown flavors and recipe drafts, cheers

Looking to make the Dole Whip Desert from Disney. Vanilla soft serve ice cream, pineapple juice, slight hint of coconut. I cant seem to find anything that works =/

1 points

by ___on___on___over 10 years ago

I'd look at something like this:

Vanilla bean ice cream TFA

Fresh cream tfa

Sweet Cream TFA

Golden pineapple cap

Pineapple mf

Coconut FLV

Vbic + fresh + sweet is a pretty good soft serve, the mf pineapple is the truest pineapple around and the Golden just gives it a little more body, FLV coconut is no sunscreen.

Which raspberry is your favorite so far?

As far as suggestions, fruit is not my specialty. I'd try Bavarian at 2 with the fruit of your choice. Mango would be good (maybe 5 or so, never used tfa), Kiwi might be good, unsure of percentage. Maybe a mango, watermelon, papaya combo...

2 points

by h77psover 10 years ago

Thanks for the suggestions. Kiwi is odd, it says Double Kiwi and even at 15% I don't taste anything but just slight sourness. The mango I have is a bit strong so mixing it with the Bavarian cream would be an excellent idea, and I might throw in a hint of pineapple to give it more sweetness.

> Which raspberry is your favorite so far?

I've tried pretty much any suggestion to finding the perfect real raspberry flavor but it is hard. Raspberry (Inawera) is as close as it gets to the real deal. Still needs a bit of sourness and sweetness to make it 100% but it's a very convincing raspberry.

1 points

by Nicobeakabout 10 years ago

I've only messed with FW raspberry (didn't like it) and INW Raspberry concentrate. The INW tasted good, but I haven't really mixed it successfully yet. I just may not be a fan of raspberry vapes just yet. My buddy got some FA kiwi that I am going to mess with, if I remember, I'll post back and let you know what I think.
