I've been doing some research in mixing, yet to make my own juice. I've read that nic is better bought mixed with PG, but I like a nice thick juice. How much will it affect my blend if I use PG nic as opposed to VG?
My tank has high flow, and I use a dripper on occasion...
Some of the current blends I buy seem to have higher PG mixes, and they work OK. I've also heard higher PG has less steep time and better flavors.
Thoughts?
100% PG nicotine is much better than VG based nic. The only reason to get VG based nicotine is if you have a sensitivity to PG. PG-based lasts longer, is easier to work with, and doesn't have as many hot spots.

If you are using 100mg/ml nicotine, PG based isn't going to really affect the thickness of your vape since you are putting a really small amount into your mix. For a 3mg/ml nic 30ml mix, it's less than 1ml pg total (excluding PG based flavoring)
What's your nicotine percentage at and what concentration do you plan to buy? I vape 3mg/ml and use 100mg/ml in PG so I'm basically adding 03% more PG to my mix, I can usually get 85/15 VG heavy with flavorings with no issues.
We're using 3mg/ml right now, so not very strong. I hadn't decided what strength nic to buy, everyone seems to have a different opinion on what's best...
If you're ready to wear gloves and be careful and not have pets around and work in a semi-well-ventilated area (i.e. not a closet, like a kitchen or somewhere) then 100mg/ml will be your best bang for your buck.
If you have any concerns about any of that, you may want to look into a lower mg/ml.
I buy my nicotine mixed with 100% VG, not sure where you read it or why it would be better with PG, unless it was for the fact of transferring it from the bottle to your mix, since PG is much thinner and easier to transfer in large quantities.
Nicotine is also a little more likely to form "hot spots", high concentration areas, in full VG. Shaking the ever-loving shit out of it helps but it's still easier to keep a homogenous mix with full PG or even 50/50.
I break my nicotine up into smaller bottles when it arrives. I put the bulk of it in a freezer and keep my "working bottle" in the fridge in my mixing room.
Before I use it, I drop in a stir bar and put the bottle on my magnetic stirrer. I let it mix for about 30 minutes prior to using it, helps get rid of those hotspots.
