menthol crystals in PG/VG/Water mix
submitted over 10 years ago by Vrayn

Hi, I'm new to DIY and want to start with a pure menthol flavour. I heard you can just get the crystals at your local pharmacy and throw it in PG to dissolve the crystals but the only base I have at hand is 50% PG, 40% VG and 10% distilled water. Will it work? And if yes, at which ratio do I have to mix it?

You'd be better off, IMHO, buying a menthol flavor from a flavor vendor. That way, it's easily repeatable and you know that it was mixed right. I wouldn't recommend mixing dry chemicals into juices until you've gotten a feel for it.

Also, it would probably be WAY cheaper that way.

I dissolve my own crystals. If I can remember right it is usually recommended to do 10% menthol if it's 100% PG, and 5% for VG. These are usually the most you can dissolve into the carrier so you could definitely go lower but I wouldn't go higher. I guess I would either mix at 5% in what you have or just go get some PG and do it at 10%. Also, make sure you warm the liquid up so the menthol can dissolve better. Hope that helps!

Also, that 10% solution is only added at a small percentage itself in a mixed juice.

Yes. Vaping 10% menthol straight would not be good. Although your breath would be very fresh!

I crush the crystals and put them in pg. But I don't vape it straight. I add a drop or two to whatever liquid I'm vaping in a tank so I can adjust how much menthol I want at the time.

I haven't tried it with vg and/or distilled water, but it works fine with pg.
