I have looked around at many of the recipes on here and I have noticed that I am always missing a flavor or two from the ones that catch my eye.
Here is what I currently have:
*Ethyl Maltol pg (HV) *Banana Cream (TPA) *Bavarian Cream (TPA) *Bitter Sweet Chocolate (TFA *Coconut (TPA) *Cola (FW) *Dragon Fruit (TPA) *Energy Drink (TPA) *French Vanilla Swirl (TPA) *Hazelnut (TPA) *Juicy Peach (TPA) *Mango (TPA) *Peanut Butter (TPA) *Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA) *Sweet Cream (TPA) *Sweet Strawberry (Cap) *Watermelon (TPA) *White Choc (TPA)
Anything that could help fill the gaps?
I long ago came to the conclusion that unless you own ALL the flavors, you are never done. I started with; "I'll just buy 5-10, make some ADV's and then quit". I now have over 130 flavors. And I'm not even close to owning all that I want.
"Ohhh look another recipe that looks amazing!.... oh no! I need 1 flavor! better buy these other 20 that could go great with this other thing I'm mixing right now!"
And so on and so forth.... get out while you can!
(Please don't though, this hobby is awesome!)
130, holy shit!
I have about 20 with 7-8 due tomorrow and I thought close to 30 was a lot.
My buddy has about 50. I make fruit/candy flavored juice and when I get these ill have most of what I want for a while.
Bubblegum--strawberry--tutti frutti- orange cream--Hawaiian drink-ethyl maltol- pineapple--kiwi strawberry--very berry--grape--Apple--tropical punch--energy drink--sweet tarts--lemon lime--lemonade--pomegranate--mandarin--cappucinno--tobacco(not sure which one again but got it for a friend to see what I can come up with)
Give me more fruit/candy flavors I need.
Green apple, Fuji Apple, BANANA! So many bananas. Cantaloupe, Guava (love pink guava from FLV), Blueberry/Bilberry, Passion fruit, Mango, Papaya, Cherry, Raspberry. Uhm, so many more, I cant even begin, but those stood out as a good pick.
I def want blueberry and raspberry as well as cherry. Mango is a no go for m. A buddy made a juice with mild mango and I couldn't for the life of me get that taste out of my mouth and had to change my wick out.
6% lemonade and 5% pomegranate btw is amazing!
I wanted to try and clone a Moon Mountain flavor, "solar flare" and knew those two were in it so I bought the 2 and first did a 7/5 but the lemon was too much so just drop it a bit and maybe raise the pomegranate so, 6/6 perhaps.
The flavors are dead on but I can tell the percentages were slightly off. Overall it tastes almost dead on. They may have added one more flavor but it's so close with just the two it may be just that simple.
Here's the formatting done for your list. Added some ideas about the flavours and why I think some should be avoided. Ones with + at the end are what I think you should add.
- Ethyl Maltol pg (HV)
- Banana Cream (TPA)
- Bavarian Cream (TPA)
- Bitter Sweet Chocolate (TFA) - A mix of double chocolate TFA and Flavour Arts Cocoa can give a good chocolate along side some hazlenut, maybe acetyl pryazine. Chocolate's hard to pull off imo. Also medicine flower, dark + light chocolate. Apparently it's so close to the real thing but it's expensive as hell, not for a first buy. One for down the road.
- Coconut (TPA) - Get Coconut from Inawera, miles better imo
- Cola (FW) - I don't think flavours like cola work well, if you like cola then you might but without the fizz I think it's pretty nasty
- Dragon Fruit (TPA)
- Energy Drink (TPA) - same as cola
- French Vanilla Swirl (TPA)
- Hazelnut (TPA) - try and get flavour wests hazlenut
- Juicy Peach (TPA)
- Mango (TPA)
- Peanut Butter (TPA)
- Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA)
- Sweet Cream (TPA)
- Sweet Strawberry (Cap)
- Watermelon (TPA)
- White Choc (TPA)
-
- Graham cracker Clear (TPA). They have a diketone free version which is lovely as well. Great biscuit base taste, solid with creams and with some fruits.
-
- Vanilla Custard (TPA). Solid cream flavour, great with graham cracker, bavarian cream and with fruits. Only usually used at 1-3%.
-
- Acetyl Pryazine. This is if you want to add a roasted nut flavour to something. Fantastic with creams, good with graham cracker.
-
- Pear (CAP). A great one to add to fruit mixes, can help sweeten flavours out and add a nice crisp taste
-
- Raspberry Sweet (TPA) Similar to pear, a nice raspberry on its own but behind some other fruits (say strawberry ripe at 5%) it can really add a level of sweetness and interest to the flavour.
Tfa Cheese cake graham, fa cream fresh, look up "milkstone" and whip some of that up possibly. Hmm let's see what else. Ripe banana tfa really brings out the weak banana in the tfa banana cream, cotton candy is another flavor that's good to have on hand. I'm trying to suggest things to grab thay tend to go good in a lot of mixes. No interest in any custards? You don't have any fruit circles or berry crunch, if you'd want to make some cereal juices. Tfa strawberry ripe is very good, much more natural and goes better in shortcake and cream mixes than other strawberries imo. Some cookie and cake flavors could be fun to play around with t he creams and fruits. You could also grab some tfa sweetener , madagasgar vanilla by FA is a good one too.
My first flavor order was picking random stuff that didn't seem to work in my favor and I got discouraged. I then picked a few recipes and ordered the missing components and came up with new ideas. The situation you're in is one we've all been in before but it gets better. Honestly it's all about research(sidebar, searching your flavors and see what you're missing) Everyone's tastes are different so you have to trial and error. Do the homework and spend the money. Well worth it.
Thanks man, I am going to grab a couple more fruit flavors and whatnot. My tiger blood clone i made is so bad... I am starting to wonder if I am doing this right.
I heard that the 50/50 PG/VG is rough on a lot of people so I snagged a bottle of 100% VG I am gonna mix up a bottle to hold me over while I order some of the other flavors.
I started out trying recipes I found online. Just remember that really good ones are kinda few and far between. I tried a Tigers blood and in retrospect the percentage of coconut extra is way to high. In fact I can't use Tfa coconut extra in anything because of that recipe, just a foul taste for me.
The more you browse, the more you'll find who's going to bring the good recipes. Fizzmustard singlehandedly gave me what I needed to feel good about diy. Soon after, botboy made everything super clear for me. Just research a lot and you'll be pumping out liquid awesome.
There are only gaps if you selected a handful of recipes and you don't have a flavor listed to make those recipes.
If you picked a bunch of awesome sounding flavors with no plan or recipes in mind you are going to be disappointed.
If you wanted to bake a cake you would find a recipe, then go to the store and buy the ingredients in the recipe. This is no different.
I think when I went to make my order my wife might have vetoed my total cost (ha) and I omitted the wrong ones. Now I just have to fill in the gaps.
Sidebar -> "My First Order" Flavors
Just get the ones that I am missing? I feel like there are a key few flavors that are missing...
I'm not sure what you're asking for.
You want to know what flavors you should get, right? Well, there's a list made up by many of the regulars on this subreddit.
Or are you asking us to go through every flavor you have and spend a few hours each coming up with perfect recipes for you and tell you what you're missing? If that's what you want, please at least state it specifically.
