I really like that you have flavor profiles in the label. It's so frustrating when something's called "Mirage" or "Tsunami" with a description like "An illusory flavor experience sure to keep you searching for the next mirage over the dunes...sure to be your next adv!!"....and nothing else....

Where would one go about purchasing some of this juice? The flavors sound quite tantalizing

Thanks! Having the profiles on the bottle was essential for me.

Our online shop will be up for a huge sale on July 4th weekend. Right now we're selling locally in Asheville, NC at any of the three Asheville Vapor locations. You guys will be the first to know when the store is online.

I thought NC just passed some pretty restrictive e-juice regulations?

4 points

by fizzmustardalmost 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

Not really restrictive in the vein of Indiana. Just a 5 cent per mL excise tax. Our 30mL bottles get hit with $1.50 in tax.

The rest of the regulations are fairly reasonable; no underage sales. NC actually has a distinct classification for OTP ("other" tobacco products) in our industry. The legal term is "vapor products" and they're treated separately from cigarettes.

I've been using your 'Nanna Cream clone as an ADV for months. If you need any help getting your site off the ground, PM me. I'm more than happy to donate my time to the cause... It's the least I can do after all the work you have done for us! (I'll give you some professional references in a PM if you need a developer...)

That is extremely kind of you to offer. Wow, thank you. My background is in development so I think we're covered but I really appreciate your kindness :D

Asheville you say?

Did you happen to recently Visit Corning NY? Had a owner of the a shop that had 4 locations down there come up and visit us.

Damnit fizz... You deserve this man, the amount of time and effort you put into this sub not to mention the clones you so gladly shared with us. It's truly amazing to see someone finally start to get big.

Ps. Just from the looks of it I already want to buy the shit out of your juice!

Labels look cleannnn. I love the simplier look of labels than the ones with some crazy design. Looks smexy. Congrats!

Loving the labels. The font colors work really well to differentiate between the flavors. Simple and effective.

It's hard to get funding when you tell the investors that you want to release the recipes to all the juices. I'm sure I'll find a partner soon though

Love the clean, simple lables and the fact that you put descriptions on the bottles. I'm originally from Greenville, SC, haven't been there in about 9 months. If I were I'd be hunting that shit down!

Didn't really have the time to try them all, but I will sooner or later. They are really good, keep it up! I think they are doing an grand opening party tmrw at the Merrimon location with giveaways. Might be a good place to get more people into it.

by skiddlzninjaalmost 10 years agoFrugivore

Congrats man! Can't wait to see people post some fizzmustard clones ;P jkjk

But in all seriousness, how difficult was it starting up, and how much had to be invested? This is so I can link people here when they get the brilliant idea of starting an ejuice company before starting DIY.

11 points

by fizzmustardalmost 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

Ha! I hope folks do try to clone them; it would be a huge compliment.

I'll do a full write-up of what I went through to get this off the ground once everything is online and ready. The long and short is...we're doing this the right way, and the right way is expensive. Incorporation, insurance, branding, sourcing the highest-quality ingredients including nitrosamine-free nicotine, plus the time investment. $$$.

5 points

by skiddlzninjaalmost 10 years agoFrugivore

I've been telling people this for a while, but having no experience in starting my own e-juice company takes away a bit of my credibility. A lot of people don't realize that a lot more goes into selling e-juice than just making a vapeable product and taking it to a vape shop.

5 points

by fizzmustardalmost 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

For sure. You certainly could do it that way but it helps to have some business sense and a plan. New brands pop up every day and they'll make it for a while, but if you want to be in business long term the real world is going to chew you up and spit you out with no sympathy.

2 points

by Baydenalmost 10 years ago

Very cool stuff. A full write would be awesome, I would be very interested. Thanks for taking the time. Good luck with the business, I will definitely try a few of your juices myself.

3 points

2 points

by MeLurkeralmost 10 years ago

Nitrosamine nicotine? I am out of the loop, can you elaborate?

2 points

by fizzmustardalmost 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

Yep. Cheaper nicotine bases contain nitrosamines – potentially undesirable compounds that give the liquid an "off" flavor. That's a drastic oversimplification, but the salient point is that we have an analysis on each batch on nicotine base and keep the COA for each.

2 points

by ThirdWorldOrderalmost 10 years ago

Recipes or GTFO.

Congratulations man. Glad to see you are investing in quality measures regarding your juice line and I look forward to your public opening.

2 points

by fizzmustardalmost 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

Anyone can do a good job with their nic base, they just need to back it up with an analysis. Ask your supplier for a COA...they should provide it easily.

I can recommend CXT highly for pre-diluted nic base.

Can you comment on the variance in fill levels?

2 points

by MNVapesalmost 10 years ago

Every liquid on our shelves at the shop I work at has varying fill levels including a line that is manufactured under contract by dow pharmaceutical.

My guess is minor variances in the bottles themselves. Blow molding can be inconsistent.

1 points

by vapingatfiftyalmost 10 years ago

I have definitely seen variations in the base thickness on a lot of bottles.

Edit: I'd love to know which brand claims Dow does their fulfillment.

2 points

by fizzmustardalmost 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

Sure! I guess you're just asking why some of them look fuller than others?

We batch produce and fill bottles instead of mixing directly into the bottle. Each bottle is filled to 30mL with about 2mL overfill variance. The bottles themselves are from SKS and, as /u/MNVapes said below, can have slight variances too.

If you have any tips from your experience running Cloud Provisions I'm all ears.

2 points

by vapingatfiftyalmost 10 years ago

First, I liked Archetype, I like this better, very nice design.

After feedback from store owners, who got it from customers, we simply overfill for a consistent look.

1 points

by fizzmustardalmost 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

Thanks! I think it may even have been you that initially pointed out there are several other "Archetype" lines floating around. Rebranding allowed us to really focus on what the product means. It came out much more cohesive behind the new name. A hurdle for the better!

1 points

by shrine399almost 10 years agoMixologist

Overfill for life. I can't stand a company we carry at my shop that fills a 18mL bottle to 15mL's. We're always having to promise customers no one is stealing juice since the bottle has a half inch of empty space in it.

I just fill the bottle up to the neck for our line. It keeps small variances from being too noticeable and it gives the customers a little more juice than just 15 or 30 mL's.

1 points

by simpleone234almost 10 years agoMixologist

You are all correct. There is often great variance in the inner cavity of glass bottles. We batch like you but have a machine that sucks back extra liquid so each bottle appears to have the same fill level. All bottles meet the label claim of 30ml because the bottles we use have a 33ml capacity.

Maaaaaan, the guys got me to sample this and I fell in love. The labels are simple and timeless. Beautiful font, great spacing, simple, and the subtle map in the background fits perfectly. The price is great. I ended up going with Fontana and Widows Walk.
Fontana is the first liquid I have tried that has kept me off of Nana Cream for longer than a day. The smell reminds of Nana Cream but the taste is totally different. It is way more refreshing and wetter than Nana Cream.
Widows Walk is fucking wonderful. I haven't personally tried anything like this. When you say mint leaf that is exactly what it is. Its earthy and refreshing and feels like a mint water, it doesn't dry me out like my peppermint does. This may be my new All Morning Vape. (Usually just peppermint)

But seriously, congratulations. Are you going to the Merrimon Ave grand opening?

5 points

by fizzmustardalmost 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

Wow, thanks for the high praise. Fontana certainly seems to be the fan favorite so far. I'm very partial to Widow's Walk myself. Lots of folks advised against releasing a menthol since that's a niche genre, but I really believe in the strength of the flavor.

And yes, I'll be at the Merrimon party.

by fizzmustardalmost 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

Sure. Site is in the works but here's the menu:

Buckland - STONE FRUIT, CANDIED NUTS, MALTED GRAIN

A rich blend of peaches, plums, sweetened cashews and sunflower seeds. An earthy malted grain rounds out this flavor and brings all elements together. Designed specifically to pair with Pale Ale or IPA beer and inspired by the art of craft brewing.

Fontana - BARTLETT PEAR, DAIRY CREAM, KAFFIR LIME

Tart, juicy pears suspended in a tangy cream, garnished with fresh lime.

Genoa - BREAKFAST FRUITS, CEREAL FLAKES, ALMOND MILK

Strawberries and blueberries drenched in nutty almond milk and a crumble of shortbread cereal flakes.

Skullflower - LEMON SORBET, MACERATED BERRIES, KUMQUAT PRESERVES

A perfect warm-weather liquid. Sour lemon sorbet topped with sweet, macerated berries and an intriguing kumquat preserve.

Widow's Walk - MEDITERRANEAN FRUIT, BOTANICAL TEA, MINT LEAF

An herbal tisane of bright pomegranates and dates, verdant basil and Clary sage, chilled with a hint of bruised mint leaf.

1 points

I'm not sure what you mean about leaving my stock there – you mean on the shelves?

Our juice is "pre-steeped" – technically it's fully homogenized – but it's shelf stable.

Those are Kiaro labels...it's a fancy schmancy label printer a lot of folks in our industry use. Not cost effective for DIY though. If you're interested though I'll be happy to share what I know.

1 points

by Tapeworm77almost 10 years ago

I would love to know your thoughts on Kiaro printers and the competition! Currently trying to decide on a label printer for my vape shop, Avalon Vapor in St. John's, Newfoundland. Kiaro's start at 5K and the 10K version was highly recommended by their sales guy, he basically said the 5K model would not be a good investment but I'm sure he's working on commission too! :) Currently we use address labels with a color laser. I should be ashamed I know! :/ We desperately need a cost effective label printer!

Amazon carries some varieties repackaged from other manufacturers. We specifically get our bottles from SKS Bottle & Packaging in bulk, but Amazon searches for 30mL or 15mL "Boston round bottles" will turn up what you're after.

Can you provide direction. On how your juices end up some of those colors? I'm betting lighting has a lot to do with it. But all of mine end up either clear, yellow, orange or brown. Some of yours seem to have different hues.

Is it specific flavors, combinations? Can you provide any sources that, when combined with nic even, produce different hues?

2 points

by redbicalmost 10 years ago

Different flavors have different hues. I'm 100% sure he doesn't artificially color anything.

Have you looked at the varying colors of different flavors? Depending on the flavor they range from brown to yellow to red-ish to green.

1 points

by fizzmustardalmost 10 years agoBest Recipe of 2014

It's a reaction of certain flavorings with the nicotine. You'll notice a smooth gradient in color intensity as nicotine concentration increases. /u/redbic below is correct that I don't use any coloring agents.

I wish I had more research on which particular molecules produce different colors but there's a vacuum in available research (at least that I've found) about those reactions.
