So, to me, there are not nearly enough recipes that feature apricot as the main fruit. While not as "accessible" as something like strawberry, I feel complimenting it with the right flavors can put it right up there. I've been playing around with the idea of caramelized apricots with almond cream since I started DIYing in early May. Ive tried 3 or 4 mixes and they were good, but not what I was really going for. I wanted the apricot flavor to taste cooked, which I was having a hard time getting, until I saw HIC's notes on brandy.
FA Brandy "caramelizes" the apricot perfectly, in my opinion, with a little help from caramel and brown Sugar. At the percentage the Brandy is at, it does give it a bit of a boozy note, but I really like it in this recipe. I think you could cut it in half and still get the cooked effect on the apricots, though. In previous mixes, I noticed bavarian cream went really well with the apricot/almond combo, so I used it here as well. Some fresh cream on top of that to lighten it up a bit, and some meringue to further sweeten the mix. I mixed this up and vaped it, and it was there, right where I wanted it to be, but I was feeling like I could make it better. (Ive ruined a few good mixes this way. haha)
I was looking over my flavorings and spotted Torrone. This could be good, I thought, and threw in 1% on a whim. Shook it up. vaped it, and it was even better. It added a nice bright candy feel that really compliments this recipe and sweetened it a touch more. Percentages are a bit on the high end, but you cant tell vaping it. I dont get tired of this stuff. It's nice and light.
This is my first recipe that I am considering finished and will be mixing up a 120 as soon as I'm finished with this write up. Just thought I would share since I am enjoying this so much. Mix it up if you want to. I would love some feedback on this one. Its a great shake and vape, but does benefit from an overnight steep. Ive been vaping this for about a week and it hasnt changed too much after the 3 day mark or so. Enjoy!
Caramelized Apricots w/Almond Cream:
- Almond (FA) 1.5%
- Apricot (TPA) 6%
- Bavarian Cream (TPA) 4%
- Brandy (FA) 2%
- Brown Sugar (TPA) 1%
- Caramel (FA) 1%
- Fresh Cream (FA) 1%
- Meringue (FA) 2%
- Torrone (FA) 1%
EDIT: Based on /u/Botboy141's recommendations, and some of my own observations after aging, I have revised this recipe and it is now betta! Also decided to go with FA Apricot. At first I couldnt taste it much, but it came through after a week or so and to me the flavor is better than TFA's in this recipe.
- Almond (FA) .5%
- Apricot (FA) 2%
- Brown Sugar (TPA) 1%
- Fresh Cream (FA) .5%
- Liquid Amber (FA) 1%
- Marzipan (FA) 1%
- Meringue (FA) 1%
- Torrone (FA) .5%
Did you try marzipan instead of all your almond + creams.
Also, liquid amber works better for me personally than Brandy for adding that cooked taste when dealing with nut/cream bases.
Replaced the Bavarian cream and almond with marzipan at 2% and liquid amber at 1% in place of the brandy and I am loving it. Changed the profile a bit but is better imo. Thanks for the advice! The Marzipan is sooo good.
Marzipan sounds like it could work. Havent tried it though. Need to order that and liquid amber and I will give them a shot.
can you recommend a sub for Bavarian Cream TFA? it always gives me a massive headache along with CAP V1/V2 custard..
I have FA Custard, Fresh Cream, Catalan Cream, Vienna, Vanilla Tahiti, Meringue etc
Liquid amber is amazing. I've had it for a few months without using it until you posted that 3% Liquid amber / 3% Fuji Apple mix. Great stuff
Wow this actually sounds good. Saved for later. Now if I only had torrone and brandy... I hate this sub sometimes. $$$$$$$$
Thoughts on subbing FA apricot?
Really enjoying this, but can't vape it for long as it gets a bit intense. Checked the flavour total and it's only 7.5% lol
FA!!
I use mostly Rta's so it may be a little much for a dripper if that's what your using. Try cutting the recipe by a third. Glad your enjoying it. I keep a bottle of this stuff around at all times.
I use tanks, might try dropping by a third :) I LOVE the flavour, just feels a bit heavy.
I don't create many recipes, prefer to just mix others', but I am pretty happy with this one. It was before I got FA Apricot, so just sub it out if you like.
