Anyone made been tea extract? Should I use the spice methods in the sidebar "diy extractions"?
submitted over 10 years ago by jared213

I've been searching around after being disappointed by the green tea flavorings I've tried. I've extracted other herbs before but I wanted to check in with everyone on the green tea because it has such a light flavor. What would be best to get the subtle flavor out of it low heat, time, making a tincture with another substance first?

I've picked up a honey suckle flavor from green tea flavors and liquids I've tried before and I don't want that, but I'm sure they aren't natural flavors anyway. Once I make my extract does anyone have a flavor that would go good with it? I am hoping it will be good on its own but the flavor is so light anyway I'm afraid I'll want something more.

I like to add a bit of honey or sometimes a little cream (whipped cream is very good) to green tea. In this way, I treat it like you might treat a cup of real tea. Think along those lines.

Green tea also works well with (light) fruit flavors. Go to the grocery store and see the flavored varieties of green tea they have for some inspiration. Peach, apple and pear are all solid additions.

I have a few friends that love my tea juice the most. I use the extraction ideas in the side bar. I also add some cream and sweetener to some, but most are great with about 5% of the extract.

Here are some affinities I could find, just to give you ideas

coconut + apricot + ginger + green tea + lemongrass + rice + vanilla

green tea + dried spearmint + sugar

yuzu + caramel + grapefruit + green tea

And of course there is green tea + ice cream and green tea + marshmallow

I think I'd like it with I've cream or something similar because I've been stuck on vanillas lately, to the point I can't really taste them anymore. I'm not a huge fan of mint but a bit of spearmint would be nice. I think I'll make a few batches of flavored green tea for my family to drink while I am waiting for the extract to steep. Thank you for the ideas.
