When you see posts from someone who has obviously not done ANY homework, please "Report" them. Hit the little word "report" up near the title and move on; don't waste your time replying. One click is more attention than the post deserves.
It will show up in the modqueue and one of us will take care of it. I understand the frustration level, but don't waste your time.
If anyone wants to see the post that prompted this, it should be available here, though it has been deleted.
While I agree that posters should do their due diligence, I've never seen this warning that srsly_the_sidebar is reaming the commenter for, as I almost exclusively reddit from a mobile client.
From that perspective I feel he came off kind of harsh and insulting, which I feel projects a bad community image.
That's the whole point of this post. We just need to stop engaging with that kind of post. It's the best policy for putting an end to it. If we can all collectively restrain from posting anything at all, no one comes off harsh and insulting, the motivated will learn, and the people who this community is better off without will go elsewhere.
Oh, I completely missed the intention of that. I had inferred the report would send in the designated mod to berate the poster in that manner. I agree completely with the clarified intentions.
Most if not all reddit apps will allow you to view the side bar. If you don't have an app that allows you too I would recommend getting one that does. You're missing out on useful information for any sub that you browse.
Wish I could upvote more...
You can only upvote once! This guy has obviously not done his homework ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
But seriously, I hope you guys don't get flooded with smartarsed reports.
This is the most optimal solution to the problem, and I could not support this effort any more. Not only does it solve the 'sidebar-nazi' perception problem, it also keeps the posts which don't contribute from being boosted in the algorithms onto our front page. Good call.
As one of the assholes in that post, I'm sorry I was a bit brash with the poster. I'm usually more patient than that.
It's just that this sub has done such a phenomenal job of providing excellent resources that when I was new I didn't have to ask anyone anything.
You guys worked your asses off to help us and my gratitude is overshadowed only by my frustration with those who are too lazy or stupid to take advantage.
Sorry I was an asshole.
I was actually quite fond of your reply
Well thanks, but I feel bad about it. Was the poster an obnoxious time waster? Yes. Did he/she deserve my snarkiness? Debatable. Did I help anyone's situation even a little bit? Absolutely not.
I should have helped.
I'm mostly a lurker here but I can't help but wonder if a newbie juice diy subreddit for hand holding--to send people off to--could help the image this place has for being kinda vicious.

Not to sound like a broken record - but that's the sidebar. We don't mind helping new mixers who have obviously done some homework and need clarification on a point or two. There is a tremendous amount of information there, and quite an effort to get it well-organized.
I totally get that, and I'm also one that's drawn to forums who are unapologetic to folks who don't do their homework. But dare-I-say, most people are 'impatient' when it comes to areas that are outside their area of expertise, and would rather have baby food scooped directly into their mouth by warm souls who are willing to hold their hands.
I just think it might be a win-win to get an area where people who are kind-hearted can help beginners get their footing. I mean, let's face it, the advanced DIY folks seem to be on reddit (home of deeper-DIY and all), so maybe a beginner area isn't that out of line.
Like I said though, I'm more a lurker than a participant. Bleeding edge is awesome :)

a "help me with my juice mix" subreddit would be nice. i know flavors arent expensive individually but for someone like me who is on a fixed income, those 1.50 bottles plus shipping add up quick. some of us cant afford to make 10 different variations of a juice just to see how much of 1 or 2 flavors will give us the result we want. or even to know what flavor we are missing.
