Which flavorants would you recommend avoiding altogether because of flavor(and not because of Diacetyl or oils!)
submitted over 10 years ago by PierGarrettinni

I have found great resources on this sub on really good flavors from each company. I'd like to see a list on flavors to avoid and tasting notes for each flavor. I ask this because I recently tried my best to use Lorann Keoke coffee and after extensive research I can say that this flavor will have to be tossed. I got sulfur on the inhale and garlic on the exhale regardless of concentration or steep time.

TFA's cheesecake, unless you like the taste of sweaty socks.

See, I don't think it's that bad! It's not the best but I don't get this almost universal hatred for it... That's subjectivity for you I guess lol

Same, it's not great, especially as the main flavor. Too much buttery cheesey nuttyness, not enough milky vanilla.
But under 2% you get a lot of butter and a little nutty, so that's what the remainder of my sample dram had been used for, and it works great for that.

Is it really that bad? And what about the cheesecake Graham cracker crust?

Cheesecake Graham crust is good. As you would imagine. Nothing mind blowing, but a solid flavor that fits the bill.

Edit: yes cheesecake is that bad.

That one I haven't had yet (wizard labs was out of stock) but I only hear good things about it.

Cheesecake with Graham crust is really good. Regular cheesecake makes me gag just thinking about it.

TFA Lychee. No matter what % I try, it tastes like soap dropped in a glass of champagne. FA mangosteen is a much better emulation of lychee; it tastes just like the canned lychees you get from oriental markets.

I freaking love TFA Lychee. Different strokes I guess.

by mawhonicover 10 years ago

Save me. What percentage do you use it at? Pg/ vg ratio?

by iwokeupwithgillsover 10 years ago

Maybe try a different lychee. FW lychee is my jam, but I recently tried CAP Sweet Lychee and it has no strong flavor, only a faint hint of dogsballs

by jcgivens21over 10 years ago

The champagne flavor...does this include a 'fizz' or just the flavor itself?

EDIT: Spelled champagne 'champaigne' at first...ugh my spelling is getting so bad

I only use lychee using drops. For the one recipe I use it in, I use about 4 drops of lychee per 10ml.

This. I've been experimenting for weeks and still can't avoid the boiled garbage taste

FW Honey Wood Tobacco.. Tastes like someone strained wheatgrass juice through a sweaty jock strap

Only one to date I've tried that found its way in the garbage was TFA Phillippine Mango. It's not that it tasted bad....just that it didn't have any taste at all. No fragrance, no taste as a stand alone at 10%. Simply a waste of money and "space" in a recipe.

Wish I would have seen this comment about a week ago. I ordered it and ended up pouring half the bottle into my juice just to get a slight mango undertone.

CAP sweet mango pairs VERY well withTFA Mango. I'd say a 2:1 CAP/TFA mix will do you well.

by Frock_Donghammerover 10 years ago

This. I've been using TPA Philippine mango with Cap mango, FA mango and my current fav, Molinberry Tropical Mango

How is the normal TFA mango on its own?

1 points

by TheXysterover 10 years ago

Same mix and % I make and it's the best mango. Any of them by themself just doesn't work for me.

I've been waiting for this moment... Most of these may just be me, but here they are in order from "meh" to "Worst thing ever!"

Caramel (TPA)

Malted Milk (TPA)

Cinnamon Sugar Cookie (TPA)

Mary Jane (TPA)

Caramel Cappuccino (TPA)

Honey (TPA)

TFA Honey and TFA Caramel Cappucino should be used at <1% each.

2 points

by HocusKrokusover 10 years ago

I make a 10% solution of the honey in pg, and use that.

by skiddlzninjaover 10 years agoFrugivore

Or do this. This is smarter.

by MacHater420over 10 years ago

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I do have 30 mls of each I have barely touched.

1 points

by skiddlzninjaover 10 years agoFrugivore

TFA honey especially, otherwise it tastes like piss or burnt tires.

edit: I'd suggest using them on a drop-by-drop basis like menthol or MTS

first time i tried caramel cappuccino i made it at 5%.... not fun!

Does Mary Jane taste accurately like pine needles?

1 points

by MacHater420over 10 years ago

More like pine needles than anything else.

Funny, considering good Mary Jane feels like pine needles.

I made a good juice with 1% TFA honey and 10% TFA Blueberry.

Have you tried FW's sugar cookie? I really like that one.

Really? Tfa malted milk is awesome with some strawberry and sweet cream. Gives a malt flavor like it's a milkshake

Inawera Watermelon. No idea what it's supposed to taste like. Maybe the watermelon rind?

Next question for this thread; If you have used any of the mentioned 'flavors to be avoided' successfully, please share with the group which flavor as well as the percentage used. Please include steeping method if any.

Dr. Pop. It smells great, but the taste just simply isn't there.

I can't vape anything with TFA Dulce de Leche in it. Tried at various %'s, but I can't get over this plastic taste it has.

1 points

by SadPandaVapesover 10 years ago

That's crazy. It tastes so good.

I use 0.3 percent in mixes and it gives a coffee/butterscotch type flavor. Never had a gross plastic taste

To me tfa root beer tri taste aweful

TFA Guava. Any % I've ever tried adding to a batch completely ruined it, standalone is really bad too.

1 points

by hotwingsandcoldbeerover 10 years agoTobacconist

FA Perique Black Tobacco and FA Dark Vapure. It's been said that they play well together and I could understand that since they both have a taste that I can't describe but it's very unpleasant.

TFA Honeydew. It's super potent and super hard to get rid of the taste from the atty. Great taste though

LOL yea, the taste lingers.

FA Pineapple - Tastes like burned rubber.

1 points

by PierGarrettinniover 10 years ago

what percentage were you using it at?

1 points

by Davesnothearover 10 years agoMixologist

As low as 1%. It even smells like burned rubber to me.
