DIY absolute + essential oil?
submitted over 10 years ago by CheeseVikings

So I love the taste I get from NET's (naturally extracted tobaccos) but charcoal filtration did little or nothing for the gunking problem 9shot in the dark) , anyway got myself a vacuum distillation setup (to get back pure grain alcohol after the process) and I've been playing with PGA tobacco absolutes (no hexane step just ethyl alcohol)

The flavor is amazing on english style blends and cigars and the like but totally fails with aromatics (vanilla flavored tobacco for instance) , Now Im still messing with different steeping times and temperatures (tip : dont go over the boiling point for ethanol, it just degrades flavor) but so far to no avail

I know I could just add the vanilla after the fact but it also occurred to me that since i'm transferring the concentrate to pg during the vacuum distillation to recapture the PGA I could do a batch of steam distilled tobacco oil seperately and then mix it in with heat before distilling out the alcohol (leaving the oil hopefully bonded with the pg) , thoughts?

It may take a while to get a reply, but I believe /r/deeper_diy would be able to better handle a question of this level.

Yeah, I keep hoping for someone to weigh in. This type of stuff is super interesting to me.

If you haven't already, I'd check out some of literature posted in one of the threads over there. There's also a lot of good info posted in all those threads.
