Made a v1 & v2 of a new mix, but having trouble with TFA Ripe Banana (surprise surprise), even in low amounts. I included my recipe chart, could anyone give any insight on how to achieve what I'm looking to get out of this mix?
submitted over 10 years ago by joshualeet

So I decided to make a Raspberry Banana Cotton Candy mix, and based off of the ratios I used, I figured it would have a nice raspberry flavor with a bit of a banana backing. I understand how intensely strong TFA Ripe Banana is, so I used it very sparingly. 1.5% is still apparently too much.

The main gripe I have about it is that I am getting no raspberry/BRCC notes and am basically just tasting the Ripe Banana... but not how I normally taste RB. It normally tastes like a candy banana.. Like a banana runt candy, almost. In this mix, on the exhale I am getting a strange "toasted" almost chocolate-type flavor in the banana. No raspberry present.

Could someone look over this and see if they have any suggestions to make the raspberries pop much more? I assume I need to tone the RB down (.5%? .75%?) and that will make the raspberries come out more? I don't think I really need to up the raspberry percentages, but maybe I do.

Maybe I need to let it steep longer? Does that usually tone down the banana or make it stronger? Does it bring the raspberries out?

Any help is appreciated. Here is the chart of what I used, I'll just show v2. v1 had 8% CAP Raspberry, and v2 upped it to 13%.

Raspberry Banana Cotton Candy v.2

Ingredient|ml|g|% :---|---:|---:|---: Nicotine juice 100 mg (100% PG)|0.9|0.93|3 PG dilutant|2.7|2.8|9 VG dilutant|21|26.49|70 Blue Raspberry Cotton Candy (CAP)|1.05|1.05|3.5 Raspberry V2 (CAP)|3.9|3.9|13 Ripe Banana (TPA)|0.45|0.45|1.5 Totals|30|35.62|100

Flavor total: 5.4 ml (18%)

Thanks guys!

When I tried blue raspberry cotton candy, it just tasted like EM to me. If that's the case, that high of a % could be altering/muting flavors. CAP raspberry has a great sugary-candy affect on juices. That could be one possible culprit.

Another possibility is that the two flavors just don't mix well (raspCAP/rbTFA). If you haven't tried LA Banana Cream, I suggest you find a small amount. I love what it does in terms of boosting other fruit flavors especially strawberry. I use it in the .5-1.5% range to add a wonderful sweet and slightly creamy mouthfeel to other flavors. You still get the banana but it doesn't overpower the other fruits in the mix.

If you haven't tried it, you may like FA Raspberry. I've never tried Steamjunk Ghostberry but I've smelled it plenty of times and FA Raspberry smells like Ghostberry to me. It's strong. At 1.5% it rises above just about anything.

Full disclosure: I don't care for it much but I don't like too many fruity flavors either.

Way too much Ripe Banana. Use it sparingly. Maybe even at .25% if your looking for it on the backend of the exhale. EM will Mute your flavors a ton, but I don't know anything about Capella blue raspberry cotton candy.

This^

I never go above 0.5% for ripe banana and typically use it in even lower amounts.

Right on, thanks for the advice. I knew RB was incredibly strong, but I figured 1% wouldn't be too much. I was wrong. Still overpowers everything and gives a weird taste on exhale.

And yeah, although it's not listed on the ingredients, CAP BRCC is basically EM. Gonna back down on that too, it likely is muting the flavors.

13% Raspberry .25% Ripe Banana 1% Blue Rasp Cotton Candy

Think that might work? I'm really wanting the raspberry to be a dominant flavor and have the banana just kind of add a little.. banana flavor to it. I know Ripe Banana isn't the correct flavor to be using in this manner, but it's all I have in terms of banana right now, so I'm trying to see if I can make something nice out of what I have until my next order comes in.

That is closer to what I would use except the Ripe Banana. It is very very potent and it depends on what type of flavor you are looking for. .5% for a strong banana flavor or .25% for a light flavor. IMO 1% is still a bit too much.

Honestly, not knowing the chemical make up of CAP flavors, I'd suggest going about this a different way for best results.

5-10% TFA Cotton Candy (10% EM Solution basically)
2-3% FA or INW Raspberry
0.25% TFA Ripe Banana (if you are set on using TFA RB, if you aren't, try LA Banana Cream here @ 3-5%).

Just my two cents...

The flavor profile of the above may change drastically after a week long steep due to the high concentration of EM causing muting of the banana and raspberry. So mix this up, let it sit a week, then evaluate what may or may not need to be changed. I've vaped recipes with as high as 10% EM/Cotton Candy and they work for that cotton candy flavor. One of my first recipes actually was a blueberry cotton candy for the wife and it was very simple:
10% TFA Cotton Candy
10% TFA Blueberry Wild

I'm basically just mucking around with what I have on hand until a new concentrate order comes in. I ended up grabbing an EM solution. I know TFA RB isn't the type of flavor to use as your ONLY banana in a recipe, what's a solid all-around banana flavor that I can use around 5-7% of, then .25-.5% of TFA RB as an accentuator with the other banana being the base? I've heard Bavarian Cream being a good one (forgot which company off top of my head.)

Your recipe is guaranteed to work and be better than mine, but like I said I was just fooling around with what's on hand to see if I could make something decent.

With that in mind, could I bring the RB down to .25%, and the EM/CC down as well to achieve more what I'm looking for? Or do you think it'll be too difficult to get the balance im looking for (mainly rasp flavor with the sweet banana/CC flavors to accent on the exhale)

After a day, the toastiness of the banana has calmed down but definitely still not even a trace of the CAP raspberry v2

I know nothing of CAP Raspberry so I couldn't really say. I use very few CAP flavors. Can always give it a shot though. Reducing your concentration of Ripe Banana is obviously the first step.

As far as a great all around banana flavor, you can't go wrong with LA Banana Cream.

The Banana I sell actually uses a combination of TFA Banana Cream and HS Banana to get the mix I was looking for between candy/runts and realistic banana flavor.

Just make a dilution with the RB. Add 1 ml of ripe banana to 1ml of pg. In a 30ml, 0.3ml would come out to 1% of your new banana flavor (or technically 0.5% RB). You can try using a syringe and get close to .5% but I find dilutions work better at smoothing out harsh favors for some reason. If you add 1ml of RB to 3ml of pg, 1% would really come out to .25% RB.

Dude, yes. Thank you, such a simple idea but I didn't even think about it. I feel like a dilution would definitely (hopefully, at least) smooth out the harsh, extreme potency of RB.

I've come to understand (and rightfully so) that RB is best used as a banana-enhancer, added in small percentages on top of a less potent banana. Do you happen to have any recommendations on banana flavors that would be good to use in this manner? I enjoy the candy banana flavor that RB brings, and I feel like adding that to a slightly creamier (but not TOO creamy) banana concentrate would work very well. I would like to use this combo in mixes that don't necessarily make you think "cream," just more of a full-spectrum banana flavor... If that makes sense.
