Well guys, I fucked up
submitted over 10 years ago by TheUnwise1

I got my first order of flavors today and with much anticipation and excitement I started my adventure into DIY. With nervousness of creating my first recipe I took my shaky hand and began to carefully fill my syringe with some deliciously aromatic TFA Blueberry Wild. Well my excitement made me just shakey enough to knock my new bottle of flavoring all over my carpet and ruin my chance at a blueberry goodness vape.... On the bright side that to now has a beautiful scent to it...

How does the lack of nicotine in his solution equate happiness?

I've done the same thing..... had a great strawberry smell in my 3rd bedroom for the longest time.

Here's what I did. I took a 2X4 and drilled holes in it the size of my flavor bottles. Sanded it and coated it with some polyurethane. Now I just put my bottles inside the holes and I don't worry about knocking them over any more.

I'm probably going to do something similar soon, learned my lesson early sadly

That is a killer idea....I believe I shall do that.

My buddy took an easier route.....he didn't want to mess with the wood so he just used some thick Styrofoam he picked up from a shipping box. Bored out some holes and did the same thing.

Glad you like the idea

Thanks...although i think the light went out a little in big bros eyes since he won't get to over engineer something, this sound much easier

Don't mix near carpet. Problem solved.

And mix by weight. I finally ditched the syringes. Soo much easier, no cleanup as long as there's no spill.

Finally have that scale on the way, hope its better than all these !@#$% Syringes all over the place.

You won't regret it! I made more of a mess with syringes, and omg cleaning the syringes.... I dreaded the thought of mixing when I used them. I would vape the last of my crap juice that came out terrible before I'd mix.... now I usually have like 10 or more 30ml bottles of different juices sitting around on my desk. The time is cut in half, if not more.

Agree 100% with mixing by weight. At first I didn't understand how anyone could spill more than a couple of drops of flavor since there is drip caps on the bottle. Took a little while before I relized that you would have to remove the cap to get a syringe in the bottle.

The only thing that drives me crazy currently is using pipettes for TFA flavors... I was going to order tops for them, but the shipping was ridiculous (from a company tfa recommended in an email). One of these days...

Maybe looks into wizard labs' 8ml dripper tops. They just got them back in stock. About 2 dollars for a 5 pack and their shipping is usually pretty low.

I tried this and ended up waaaay overdoing it when I was adding some flavorings. For whatever reason my scale wouldn't register it. Probably need a better scale, so until then I think I'll stick to volume. Ah well.

I'm gonna have to do the same thing until I can afford a decent scale. Syringes till then!

There's one that a lot of folks here mention that isn't too pricey off of Amazon. I'm using the one I use to measure out copper for our goats ... only goes to .1g anyway so it's really not appropriate for mixing small bottles of liquid.

I don't mind the cleanup when mixing by volume, though, so it's not that big a deal to me. :)

Here's a little "life hack" I use to help avoid this: stack a couple scotch tape dispensers (these things) and set your flavor bottle down in the middle. The hole is the perfect size for most small bottles like the wizardlabs 8 ml bottles or ECX 10 ml.

I made the dividers and use this. I plan the mix, line up the bottles in order, and after I dispense I Cap & put it away.

Hey, I too spilled a bottle of Blueberry in my first mixing session!

My solution is a small tupperware bowl 3/4 full of rice that I keep with my mixing supplies. Anytime I need to use one of the little Wizard Labs vials I just uncap it and snuggle it down into the rice.

Bonus is that if I were to still manage to spill, it would be contained in the bowl.

This is quite ingenious, easier and more practical than some of the things people do

I've done that. Wrest your forearms on the edge of the table and use your odd hand to hold the other's wrist for stability, what I do anyway

1 points

by Criterion515over 10 years ago

Or you could use your other hand to, you know, hold the bottle. That's what I do.

thats what the scale is for lols

by Criterion515over 10 years ago

He knocked it over removing flavor from the bottle. You don't use a scale for that. Regardless, if you are mixing by weight, you should have some holder jig for your bottles anyway. If you've just got the bottle sitting there while you're trying to add/remove anything from it using a syringe or dripper bottle you're being needlessly careless.

I applied a barbering technique called pivot points to help steady my hands when using small syringes. If I'm filling into a small bottle, I will rest one hand/wrist on the table and more or less hold up my other hand with my finger tips so that my hand holding the syringe is in a rested state. Hope that makes sense :p

I spilled a 8ml dram of TFA cowboy flavoring on my carpet at home. Oh god, the horror...

by tha_vaporsover 10 years ago

That sucks but at least it has a pleasant scent. I did something similar with TFA Honey...

oh no.. that is the worst smelling flavor i came across yet

1 points

by tha_vaporsover 10 years ago

Yes, I tried using it once and decided that it would be of no use. Went to pour it down the drain and dropped the vial it was in onto hardwoods. At least it wasn't carpet but it lingered long enough.

While checking in some flavors the other day I broke a bottle of lorann butternut. House smelled like cupcakes. $5 air freshener.

I definitely knocked over a bottle of tfa sweet cream once and it splashed my face. Luckily it was a small sample bottle (and not nic but I am way more careful with nic than flavorings) but it burned a bit even after rinsing for like 10 minutes

Ouch! So I guess you don't use a hazmat suit? Lol

by quixotic120over 10 years ago

Ha nah but luckily I wear glasses and goggles. Can't imagine what that would do to the eyes; ages ago (like when an ego was top of the line stuff) I got a drop of 18mg flavored nic juice in my eye and it was hell! God it was truly surprising how intensely painful that was. As a result always have goggles now. Maybe I should invest in a face mask too though?

by mentiveover 10 years ago

I haven't got anything in my eye, but I touched my eye lid once after mixing, just kind of scratched... Burned like crazy and scared me. So I've been extremely careful since then. No safety equipment still tho...

Acrylic lipstick organizers (or other cosmetic stands) - work fantastically with the smaller vials of flavor. Great for keeping them from tipping over while working and can be found pretty cheap on amazon
