I am hoping somebody will be able to understand what flavor I am describing, it's a creamy/buttery note found in some custard vapes and almost tastes like black pepper at times. The juices I have tried so far that has it: Suicide Bunny OB, Goose Juice, Beard Vape Co No 51.
When I taste a liquid that has it, I immediately go "aha that note again", it's so distinct and recognizable I think it's a single flavor. So anyone have any idea what flavor it could be?
Tried these so far.
- FA Creams & Custard (vienna cream, catalan cream, fresh cream etc.): Nope
- TFA Bavarian Cream: Nope
- TFA Sweet Cream: Buttery but not black Peppery
- TFA Dulce de Leche (Somebody told me it's this one but maybe I need to mix higher, don't think this is it) Also leads:
- CAP Vanilla Custard v1: Don't have it, suspect it might be the flavor.
- TFA Custard: Don't have it, suspect
- CAP Butter: Another suspect
I get this note with fresh TFA Vanilla Bean Ice cream at >50w
Since so many people seemed convinced it's TFA's VC, I decided to look at the components of TFA VBIC and VC. The culprit might be one of the following, as these are the shared components between the two flavors:
- Ethyl Vanillin
- Vanillin
- Butyrate <ethyl->
- Acetylpropionyl
- Isoamyl Isovalerate
- Ethyl Maltol
- Cyclotene
I have 100% experienced a "peppery custard note" from VBIC at higher wattages
Just a few hours ago I made my first mix with TFA's V.B.I.C. in it (at 8%), and it had a very noticeable "peppery custard" taste to it.
edit: also, this was at a mere 30w!
Oh man, I use VBIC a lot but have never tasted this peppery taste before. I hope this isn't a "thing you can't untaste"
It's CAP VC v1. Maybe v2, but I'd lean more towards v1. When you've tasted it, you'll notice it in every fucking juice that uses vanilla custard. Somewhat overhyped, but it's alright if you use it well.
Definitely not this. I've been Vaping capellas v1 for months and it does not have the peppery herbal note that I get from a lot of premium brands.
Strange..I notice it in everything using CAP VC. I wouldn't necessarily say a "pepper" taste, like OP, but I think it's on the verge. Almost a "gritty" taste, if that makes sense. I don't know..it's hard to explain. It's just one of those flavors that are very distinct.
Why are people still using v1? They made v2 for a reason - to get rid of all the diketones/diacetyl v2 dosnt have much if any diacetyl and v1 has very high amounts..dangerously high.
A lot of people (at least ones that I've talked to) taste a puke-y background because of the butyric acid. I don't mind diacetyl myself, so v1 doesn't really bother me. I had v2 before I got v1 and when I do use CAP VC in a recipe, I always prefer v1. If I'm making a recipe for a friend, I'll always explain the differences beforehand and most have preferred it with v1.
For me Vaping is about harm reduction not harm elimination. I know I'm doing some kind of harm by inhaling vapor but I don't let it bother me because I also know it's a lot less harmful than what I was doing before.
There's not a whole lot of evidence supporting the theory that exposure at the levels we're encountering is harmful but my tongue has provided me with tons of evidence to support the theory that diacetyl tastes fucking amazing.
Gonna go with what /u/NotCharlesManson said. I noticed CAP v1 in an alarming amount of custards, and it does have a pleasantly abrasive tone in it/
Hey thanks for the answers, I guess I will have to check both CAP and TFA vanilla custards to find out which one it is. (Maybe both have similar notes). I also feel sorta dumb now, obviously I should have checked popular custard aromas first since all were custard juices.
My girlfriend gets the same peppery note from cap vanilla custard v2. Doesn't necessarily mean it's the same not you pick up on. BoneyNicole said every set of tastebuds is different and they are dead on.
My friend literally can't taste strawberry in any of my mixes, while that's the strongest flavor to me in the same mix.
Googled 'peppery flavour flavour art' and found this. I mixed ripe strawberry and vanilla custard both FA and its tasting like a strong pepper flavour. Have to assume its the custard will try it with Cap custard next time. Glad to see I'm not alone/crazy.
By FA I think you mean TFA right? (There is also Flavor Art which does not have Ripe Strawberry) Anyway, yep Cap. Custard should be better but it also has a slight pepper (much lower) for me. I've since then encountered some more peppery flavors, current list:
- TFA Vanilla Custard
- TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
- Cap Cake Batter
Not to disparage the previous commenter - every set of taste buds is different - but I am pretty positive this is TFA's vanilla custard. I don't notice the pepper so much in a tank, but I definitely do in a dripper. I actually am not a fan of it for this reason, but I can see how others might like it. I know a ton of companies use CAP v1, and I use it in a bunch of custard recipes, but I've never found it to taste particularly peppery, just sort of..."not done" before it cures.
