I use this excel to decide how my first order should be. I'm not a good excel programmer (will be better when I migrate it to php), also my English is very poor but I hope this helps another newbie lost to his first order.
Also I think we can make a good system to the recipes, code the flavors and brands, etc. This is just a preview with a couple of hours of one man effort. I offer my PHP programming experience to DIYers community to get things a little more organized.
A nice mysql database and a simple PHP interface can do a lot for all of us.

Check out e-liquid-recipes.com... It leaves a lot to be desired in certain areas but it has a large userbase and already has a lot of recipes. It is the best I have seen so far... I just wish they would fix the ingredients to be more consistent. Can't complain about free though
I do think some kind of SQL database would be cool to have for recipes. I can help some, if someone wants to try it.
Only thing with a SQL database is you would want some front end for it, so it's not so much as building the back-end as building the interface to provide that interactivity. Excel workbooks / client database like Access are an interim to something bigger like that.
I think that's why the mobile app model has been working well for this sort of thing, I don't think most people will by DIYing their stuff right next to their computer (not to say people won't do it though) - but people will have their phone right by them.
Actually I'll develop both of them, DB and the mobile friendly iface for my use with notes and any on the go requirement.
I think could be good if you select the recipes and volume you want to mix and the app do the "shopping list" for you.
There's so many uses like efficient bought, inventory, recipe tracking, notes, prices, costs.
It's just and idea and can grow faster with community collaboration.
It would take collaboration to do some of the cloud sourcing you would want.
I am not discounting your ambition. But I think some people see the cost as relative (more relative than price watching soda at the store like I do - not sure why I rage when a 2-liter goes from $1.50 to $1.67), as they are already saving money by mixing themselves vs buying juice mixes from vendors.
I am in the mindset of finding something that does one thing really well. Which a site like that e-liquid-recipes does. So for flavors and mixes that I want to keep around, something that does that really well.
