Many times when I'm mixing, I just add a little of this, pinch of that to my base to come up with something new. It's usually good because I know what I like. I also get bored easily, so it doesn't bother me that I don't write it down or measure the recipe. It's never the same twice.
Does anyone else mix like this? It bugs the hell out of my diy juice friends with their scales and graduated cylinders!
I used to do this, until I created something that was truly amazing and I couldn't replicate it.
Maybe this is all that's left of my wild side. Throw caution to the wind and vape like a mad man.
Damn, I'm old.
I recently got excited over a sale on power tools at Lowes. I know those feels.
This was the turning point for me. Made a vanilla custard that just blew my mind, took me a good month until I'd figured out what I think is the original recipe. Ever since then I've been meticulous about my note keeping.
Mind posting your recipe? I Vape a very strict mix of 5 vanillas.
I guess it's less vanilla custard and more a creamy mess, the recipe I used at the time was this but I dislike that mix now.
- 5% Vanilla Custard
- 8% Bavarian Cream
- 1% Graham Cracker
- 1% Toasted Marshmallow
New recipe:
- 4% Vanilla Custard
- 6% Bavarian Cream
- 2% Vanilla Swirl
- 1% Toasted Marshmallow
- to taste + Acetyl Pryazine, graham cracker, dulce de leeche, sweet cream, hazlenut, sugar cookie, brown sugar, cinnamon, CAP Vanilla Cheesecake.
I personally add ap, graham and cinnamon but all of those go well with it, anything with a bakery or creamy note will.
I do, but I also meticulously document it all in a planner, and almost always make my test batches in 10mL's. When I've locked in on something that seems promising I'll get hyperspecific and bring out the scale.
That's how most of my friends do it. Then they try mine, ask what's in it and I'm like, "umm... Some black and mild, coconut, maybe latakia... vanilla? Cotton candy? Hell, I don't know. Just enjoy it until it's gone."
I tweak recipes by putting them in a tank (usually my 7ml subtank), then adding X drops. For recipes that I think need 1-2% of something else maybe added in, it lets me try different things. So I have my base that's ALMOST a there but needs a bit more zing, I can try one tank with X, one tank with Y, one with Z, and then once I know what works, turn that into a percentage and build it into the main recipe.
Works really well for me.
There's another option:
I've been mixing smaller bottles of single or low # of ingredient batches, then as you're filling or dripping you can play chef and still stand a chance at being able to reverse-engineer yourself without much trouble.
"mmm that coco-cookie+ry12 tank was gooood, I put in two squirts of ccc and 1 of the ry. went in.. works out to about 6%ry4 double, 2%coconut, 3%sugar cookie. ish."
Helps to control the vg/pg and nic %s too so you don't have to think what you're throwing off by adding some more damn coconut.
I do this from time to time. Like if I'm trying different variations of the same juice, I'll add in a pinch here or there. But I make sure to record EXACTLY what I'm doing so I don't lose track of what's what. But it's a wonderful way to really learn your ingredients.
If 0.3g flavoring (give or take) is 1%, I add in flavorings a percentage at a time and just wing it.
Winged some delicious strawberry yogurt, minty menthol, cool citrus, and PB cookie juice with my new FA flavoring I got in (and some TFA!). I just got in some Flavorah too, so I'm excited to try those out.
