Also of note, this study did not convey any results of value since testing the flavors the way they are actually used in ecigs produced no results. So we tested smoking the concentrated flavors to get some media attention. It worked!!!

I have seen other studies that suggested that the nicotine seems to have a "protective" effect against the cell damage of some of the flavorings (might try to dig it up later). However, when it comes to bacterial infections (MSRA), the nicotine seems to make the body less resistant. So it's a two-edged sword I suppose.
Also, it would be pertinent to know the scale here. Almost any substance can damage lung cells, but the question is how much "damage" are we talking relative to smoking?
EDIT: on a second reading, I think I read it wrong. I think they were saying that nicotine by itself didn't have the same effect. In either case, I still remember reading other studies where the cells behaved differently when everything was the same except the nicotine.
I can buy the idea that there are flavorings that are not safe to vape, but I just don't feel like this study has told me much. When saying that they "exposed" the cells to e-liquid at different dosages for a period of either 30 minutes or 24 hours, it's not very informative. I know this is kind of a logical fallacy, but I can be exposed to a small dose of water for a very long time and it won't affect me, but if you completely submerge me in it for ten minutes, I'm dead. Without more detailed information from the study, it's hard to not declare a flawed methodology bringing misleading results to the table.
I agree. It's not a great study. The quy who did the study says he is dedicated to finding out more about eliquid effects. Hopefully its the first step to some conclusive results. Personally I have faith that some of it is bad and some has negligible effect on health. All ate better than tobacco IMO.
