Exhaustive List of Capella Flavors with Zero Acetoin or Acetyl Propionyl
submitted over 10 years ago by phr0stbyt3

Capella's customer service seems to be pretty good. Very quick responses without beating around the bush. I wanted to know which flavors were "safe" for vaping and this is the response I got.

Hope someone finds this useful.

-----End Response from Capella-----

I wasn't sure what "V2" or "RF" stood for, so I asked: > Recently there have been many requests for the removal of Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl from the flavors. We have made a company decision to accept this request and remove these ingredients from our flavor line for your industry. > > > > Because our flavors are being used by many different industries, this request does not apply to everyone, therefore we are leaving our "Original" version and will release what we call the "Version 2, or V2" as its listed on the website. > > > > The RF stands for - Reduced flashpoint. These concentrates are mostly for worldwide shipping. Some of our flavors are flammable, and with those flammable flavors comes a hazmat fee. We are trying to steer away from having our products flammable. So we made an RF version for shipping purposes mostly for International Customs.

IMO you cant go wrong with any of the plain berry or melon flavors. Creams/vanillas/custards seem to be very subjective and not really my cup of tea. Also the peach blends I've come across, though not necessarily from Capella, come off way too fake and herbal and develop a potpourri flavor/smell after not too long.

It's easy to say your flavors are diacetyl free, but when you ask them for the testing documents, they can't provide them. At least they are willing to discuss it though. You should try reaching out to Jason at FW. He sent me an excel file with about 20 of their flavors and a colume that said diacetyl. All of them said 0. What a joke! Linda at TPA provided me with a complete lab report of their flavors, including the method used to test it. Capella and FW have a long way to go.

Just to verify. We've independently tested 3 of the flavors on this list and they showed up being free of D/A/AP. Vanilla Custard being one of them. Just to add some validity to their claims ;). Cool of you to post this!

I like how Capella is very proactive at getting AP/D free versions of their flavors out. I wish TFA would do this too. I think they only have AP/D free versions of like 4-5 of their flavors.

I personally love CAP Vanilla Custard V1, but I'm glad that there's a choice! I hope it doesn't catch on fire!

Thanks OP for taking the effort to find this out!

Not to speak ill about TFA but I got a very canned response form them when asking about the safety of their flavors for e-liquids. Capella has fully embraced the removal of AP/D and knows exactly what to say when someone asks. +1 IMO

You will get much further if you call Linda at TFA directly. She and her husband are both extremely warm and helpful if you have any specific questions. Like, bend-over-backwards helpful, just be as nice as you can be yourself. Last time I called it was after hours and I expect to get voicemail but she picked right up. Calling Linda is sort of like calling grandma :-p

She has a very small staff, so the canned response may be more a product of time constraints than lack of care. Any question I've asked she's had a response at the ready, or gotten back to me within a business day. Also consider that she will never say her flavors are safe to vape regardless of what chemicals they do or don't contain; it's a legal liability issue for her to make health claims.

I appreciate the recommendation. I definitely have not written off TFA, but rather had a much better first impression with Capella. They had just the right amount of canning mixed with "if you're going to do it anyway then here's exactly what we recommend with regard to that specific industry".

How concentrated are these flavors? Basically, would a 13Ml bottle last a decent amount of time for bulk mixing? (say, 50mls)

TFA gives the MSDS and component list of every flavor on their website. I think they and flavourart are the only ones to supply this info.

Some of the ingredients are listed as "trade secrets" however. Still, though, most of the chemicals are listed, so that's a plus.

Isn't the TFA DX line AP/D free?

Yes, that's how they are billed. They replace AP/Acetoin with Butyric Acid for the "custard" notes (obviously no Diacetyl either, like all of their flavors)

What I would really like to see is a sub this for that thread, at least for the most popular flavors . So many great recipes I found that have flavorings with the naughty business going on. I started a list and it seems like a quarter of the stuff I have at least is questionable according to the notes on E-liquid-recipes.com. What do I sub for tpa Bavarian cream or sugar cookie? If there were a list of 10 of the most Used flavors and their substitutions, that would be great.

My understanding is that they are working on removing AP/D from -ALL- of their flavors, hence the V2 line. It's only a matter of time. I will try to keep this list updated as they release more.

I was referring more to other brands, but it is good to know that at least this one is going that direction.
