So I'm on my way towards a game changing ejuice, chocolate chip cookie dough. I've got everything down pretty much perfectly except that fucking chocolate note. Im pretty much only using FA Cocoa and Chocolate in conjunction with other non chocolate flavors and have been through countless combos. The closest I've gotten was Cocoa, Chocolate, Caramel, Milk, which yielded promising results except for this sour milk aftertaste that I'm pinning on FA Chocolate and not Milk surprisingly. It just has a weird taste to it. So if any one is working with chocolates post what has helped for you. I'm having mixers block and I need to see things from other angles and I trust you guys. Thanks a bunch.
PS: My first recipe video will be released tomorrow night and contain a brand new recipe so tune in and I hope you enjoy. I can't tell you all how much I appreciate all the support its so inspiring. Keep mixing!
So I'm gonna dump all of my anecdotal knowledge about chocolate, because it has been my quest since day one of DIY, really all motivated by a deep desire to clone SMAX Sammie Puffs, my former all day vape and wallet destroyer. If you love chocolate vapes it is worth a try, if for nothing more than a frame of reference for how good chocolate can be in a mix. But for us common folk chocolate is a fickle mistress, it's true.
To begin, it's all about Medicine Flower chocolates in my opinion. The dark chocolate in particular is spot on, very dry, but it is heat stable and is intended to be used at around .5 to 1 percent, so the high cost of the extract is justifiable. I combine it with white chocolate to round things out and and give the velvety mouthfeel of real chocolate. Their light chocolate is just too, well light for my taste, a combination of dark and white yields a more true milk chocolate flavor for me.
Medicine Flower just takes a long steep to come out, and the flavor isn't really present in the mix at all until about a week in. They also need sweet and round backing flavors for body, medicine flower is literally straight aroma molecules with no carrier fluid or additional flavorings. So yeah it needs rounding out. I find that FLV coconut and FA Marshmallow work well in most mixes I use chocolate to fill in these missing notes. A little REB-A is usually a good call too. AP is also a friend to chocolate, but I tend to let flavorings like FA Cookie or TFA Cheesecake w/ Graham Cracker crust bring that to the party.
I've heard good things about TFA's double chocolate clear, but have yet to try it. I can say that in my research, it has come up the most in recipes and forum posts. It's def going in my next order.
Some chocolates I can say are not so good are- CAP double chocolate dark, just had such a hard time getting it to sit right in a mix, CAP hot cocoa tastes mostly like tootsie roll, and inawera creamy chocolate is so thick and dark it gunks coils insanely fast, ok on taste. I've tried german flavors milk chocolate as well, and while it is good, it doesn't really scream chocolate. I also echo your thoughts on FA chocolate, totally gross, almost an alcohol flavor.
I think that ultimately, a "chocolate stone" might be the way to go from here as a community, a formulation of several different chocolates that you pre mix and let steep together. That way we can leverage the advantages of all of them.
Just for the kids, my sammie puffs clone, still a WIP but damn good, all about bolstering the chocolate in the mix:
- 2% FW Graham Cracker (I am 99% sure this is what they use in the real stuff)
- 2% TFA Cheesecake with Graham Cracker Crust
- .7 MF Dark Chocolate
- .7% MF White Chocolate
- .5% FA Cookie
- .5% FLV Coconut
- 2% FA Marshmallow
- 2% Saline ( ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL, i should post about saline soon)
- 1 drop sweetener per 10 ML
Max vg, 3 ml nic
Mix well, no heat, let it sit for a week and ideally two.
Hope this all helps! Lets tame chocolate together!
Shot in the dark: Peanut butter? Idk, I make a TFA peanut butter/Double chocolate/marshmallow/Graham cracker that to me tastes like... Mocha cream pie. The chocolate is there and enjoyable. Maybe something fun will happen with yours?
...you...you might have just solved my problem. If I mix this and it works expect a free bottle. I'm not kidding.
TFA Double Chocolate clear with 1% FA Cocoa. Now you're cooking with sauce.
Just got in my FA cocoa today, what percentage do you recommend these at? 1% FA Cocoa but what about the Double Choc Clear? Is this for a forefront chocolate? Thanks for the help, struggling with chocolate...
Id love to see where you are with the cookie part. I just recently started trying to nail a cookie mix but have been having trouble.
Once I get at least a stable foundation on the recipe I'm going to drop it. But as of right now there are key elements that are missing that just makes it, blah, and I don't want anyone to waste their ingredients mixing it up thinking it's going to taste good. I'm hard at work though so expect to see it soon.
Have you tried adding a sweetener? The taste we associate with "Milk Chocolate" is only about 25% cocoa solids or less, with the rest being mostly sugar and some milk solids. Milk solids taste a little bit like the inside of a whopper. The Best period Chocolate period Ever period I've ever had in my entire life had very high milk solid content compared to most/all others.
Since I can't find any flavorings that would resemble milk solids/powdered milk I would recommend using a nutty flavor to bring out the chocolate, and definitely up the sweetener if you haven't already.
I'm working with a local custom juice maker to nail down a chocolate chip cookie recipe. Stumbled on your thread while researching and saw its fairly active. OP - let me know what you have so far, and I can keep running with it.
So far the flavors I've seen suggested online are:
Whipped cream
Milk
Malted Milk
Bavarian Cream
Cocoa
Chocolate
Dark Chocolate
Butterscotch
Dulche de Leche
Butter
Caramel
Grahm Cracker
Rice Crispies
Pie Crust
Brown Sugar
Butter Toffee
Rum
Marshmallow
Ethyl Maltol
I'm excited to make a good one. Let me know your feedback.
