Flavor of the Week: Watermelon
submitted over 10 years ago by Botboy141Gunner's Gold Gourmet E-Juice

My apologies on the delay! And to those of you that PM'd me, thanks for the reminder. Will do my best to update every Sunday!

The purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a flavor and it's many uses.

####We're not just looking for you to post recipes you have containing the flavor of the week, but looking for you to share your process as you develop a new juice using the flavor of the week.

This should help us all to better understand how certain flavors interact, and give us all a launching point to perhaps discovering new wonderful recipes.

###Please post new recipes created using this flavor as well as any and all tasting notes as main posts. Thought process is encouraged also.

This thread will NOT be in contest mode so the best flavors and reviews of those should move their way towards the top.

While I definitely encourage you to branch out with this flavor and use some more rare flavors, I would encourage everyone to keep it in mind that others will not be able to try your recipe and comment or offer assistance if they do not have the flavors you are using. I would also encourage you to use this week's flavor as the "main" flavor in your recipe although this is not required.

You BETTER sample and offer tasting notes on your recipe.

Good luck to everyone!

##This Week's Flavor is: Watermelon

Unlike in the previous monthly contest thread, I am NOT limiting this to any specific flavor from any specific vendor. After all, our goal here is to come up with perhaps some unique uses of the weekly flavor or combinations others may not have thought of before. This should allow for maximum participation as well!

VAPE SAFE

Edit: Easy access to this thread can be found under the Monthly Recipe Threads title on the sidebar under 'Flavor of the Week'

If anybody has had the Antidote by Bamski, here is my (close) recreation:

  • 12% watermelon (TFA)
  • 9% Apple (TFA)
  • 2% bubblegum (TFA)
  • 1% ripe banana (TFA)
  • 2% spearmint (TFA)

It's close. It is missing something. Subbing out the banana for something else might be it. Note this is for 80/20 vg/pg so the flavoring is a bit high. You can tone if down for lesser VG and it works out about the same.

Working on a pineapple/watermelon mix for my upcoming pineapple order.

So far it's looking like:

Coconut Extra 1%

Pineapple 4%

Strawberry Ripe 7%

Watermelon 4%

all tfa, should be more pineapple than watermelon because pineapple is super strong.

by HexCoilsover 10 years ago

I'll second that on the pineapple being ridiculously strong. I mixed up some white gummy bear and several things happened. One, my coworkers said I smelled like a stripper 30+ minutes after vaping it, one even saying I made her face hurt. Two, it took forever between flavors to finally get rid of the pineapple. Three, I made the mistake of reusing the bottle, even rinsed it out better than I usually do. Now my strawberry cream tastes of pineapple. Never again tfa pineapple, never again.

by TSpectacularover 10 years ago

Rather than use straight pineapple, I'll often go for FW Peach/Pineapple. It gives that tartness, but the peach balances it out and gives my recipes a nice smooth sweetness.

This should be flavor discussions ONLY, not more recipes. There are plenty of them you can find elsewhere...

Just my opinion.

I don't think that would leave any room for your post.

Here's one I like

• TFA watermelon 5%

• TFA bubblegum 5%

Nice simple and juicy. This also works with juicy style

Edit I P'd where I should have F'd

I made something similar with 12 % Watermelon, 5% bubblegum and 1% EM and its really pretty good.

by jakeabbottover 10 years ago

This just reminded me that I picked up some tfa watermelon ona whim and I haven't mixed anything up with it yet. Is it more of a natural watermelon flavor or more candy flavored like a jolly rancher? I am hoping it is more natural since that appeals to my vaping tastes more than candy.

If a natural flavor I am thinking it would pair well with LA banana cream, tfa Bavarian cream, and tfa whipped cream.

5% tfa watermelon

3% la banana cream

3% tfa Bavarian cream

2% tfa whipped cream

Possibly .5% tfa coconut as well

Thoughts?

Smell it. It taste exactly how it smells. Taste exactly like Watermelon Bubblicious gum to me.

by ns2680over 10 years ago

Here is one I just started working on:

  • Watermelon(TFA) 2%
  • Cantaloupe(TFA) .75%
  • Honeydew(TFA) 1%
  • Bavarian Cream(TFA) .5%
  • Toasted Marshmallow(TFA) .5%

This is a work in progress, but so far is a nice subtle blend with nothing really overpowering anything else. However, I will be bumping up the percentages a hair when I make tomorrows batch. Any suggestions are also welcome.

I have a recipe i call HPC, it was originally honey dew, cantaloupe, and papaya.

one day i tried watermelon instead of the papaya, and it worked. I use 3 drops of koolada with it

all TFA
Honeydew 2%
Cantaloupe 3%
Watermelon 1.5%
3 drops koolada

i made it for my girlfriends Delta 2 tank and it seemed to work for her.

1 points

by ns2680over 10 years ago

Sounds good. Next time I do a flavor order I will grab some koolada and try it. I accidentally knocked over my bottle of honeydew this morning so I substituted pear and so far I'm liking it. Got it in a water bath now and will try it again in a few hours.

1 points

by 00Danover 10 years ago

Similar to one I've been mixing for a bit, but I add some pear and koolada.

I'm also mixing around %14 total flavor @ 10mg, it may be a bit too strong. Going to cut it by a third with VG down to 3.3mg for my dripper soon.

1 points

by ns2680over 10 years ago

Yea I knocked over my honeydew this morning and subbed pear instead and wow. Im currently mixing at 4mg/ml at max vg. I did bump up the percentages a bit as well. May have found a new ADV with this one.

Hey all! I have a question about a Watermelon recipe I was hoping you juice pros might know the answer to. I have TFA flavors and am trying to make this juice here that I found in another thread:

Tiger’s Blood Clone 6% strawberry 2 % watermelon 2% double coconut

My problem is that I only have regular coconut from TFA. I ordered the double coconut but they said they were out and sent me regular coconut. Do you think I can still make this using the regular but maybe adding more? I tried making this as per the recipe only using the regular coconut and its not impressive. I'm new to this and have only successfully made a few juices (My first two weeks without buying any store juice!!!!) but I'd like to see if I can do this one using what I've got. Thanks!

Honey Dew (TFA) 3%

Organic Strawberry (TFA) 4%

Strawberry (Ripe) (TFA) 2%

Watermelon (TFA) 3%

I got this one of the forums, reportedly it is similar to Spartan Wives by fuzion vapor.

It was quite perfumey at first, but after about 2 months of steeping, it is amazing.

I'll start us off with something simple and delicious. This is nothing special, no creative thoughts to share, but this is what got me from smoking a pack and a half a day to vaping full time a few years ago now.

  • 10% LA Watermelon (preferably colorless)
  • 2% Menthol

Simple, refreshing, delicious. Great on a hot day. That's all for now, if I have some time this week, I'll put up some detailed notes about a complex melon mix I work with.

2 points

by bottomofthemapover 10 years ago

I made something similar to this recently. It was pretty good.

  • CAP Watermelon 8%
  • LA Watermelon 4%
  • add 2 drops of menthol and 1 drop of koolada per 5 ml
1 points

by Davesnothearover 10 years agoMixologist

Looking forward to your complex melon notes. I haven't had much luck with watermelon or any tropical fruit flavorings. BTW are you using the LA Watermelon w/o dye? I while back I bought 2 drams of the watermelon that came with dye (wasn't aware at the time their was colorless); and haven't touched it due to the coloring. Thanks again for your imformative posts!

1 points

by Botboy141over 10 years ago

Yeah I use the colorless stuff. Did a group buy on a gallon awhile back and still use it occasionally. You can also find it colorless @ OSDIYS (offline until May 15)

by Vapespinover 10 years ago

Thanks for this, I've had a few requests for a cool menthol watermelon flavor lately. I don't have lorann's, I think I have something watermelon related from TFA. Any suggestion for starting point using TFA.

I think what I have is watermelon candy, haven't used it yet...

1 points

by Botboy141over 10 years ago

Watermelon Candy from TFA is absurdly weak IIRC. I only used it once. Regular TFA Watermelon can be subbed here @ 8%.

1 points

by Vapespinover 10 years ago

Thanks, I'll look and see what I have

by Enyawreklawover 10 years agoMixologist

You know, watermelon is one of my favorite fruits, yet I don't have any watermelon flavoring. I guess I'll grab some now.

by crazyjimover 10 years ago

Am I the only one who thinks TFA watermelon tastes soapy?

1 points

by Botboy141over 10 years ago

It does a little when used over 8% (and even a little @ 8%). However, it's too weak on it's own under 7% IMO. Hence why I prefer LA.

1 points

by crazyjimover 10 years ago

Awesome to hear that. I have a bottle of LA watermelon on the way!!!

Anymore people use LA Watermelon? I have the dyed one too, but kind of what to try anyway. Think I might try LA Watermelon with some bubblegum, any suggestions for ratios?

this is my pink starburst recipe i found from dot1ml. TPA/TFA Strawberry 5% TPA/TFA Watermelon 3% TPA/TFA Vanilla Swirl 1.5% (ive alternatively used tpa bavarian cream and vienna cream by FA) to see what i prefer as creamy notes in the background.

Wow great idea Mr Bot! Thank you. By the way, I tried your nana pudding. Very good! Fantastic use of peanut butter. I accidentally put in vanilla bean ice cream but it's not bad.

Any idea where I can find some LA colorless watermelon? I am having some trouble finding information.

botboy's comment all the way at the bottom of the page says you can find it colorless @ OSDIYS (offline until May 15)

I mixed this up yesterday, very refreshing during these hot humid days in New England.

TFA Watermelon 7%

Cap Honeydew Melon 2%

TFA Pear 2%

Lemon Juice .5%

by mikeulonover 10 years ago

Watermelon 8% (la)

Grape 4% (fw)

Strawberry 2% any

Originally made this at twice the % and it was strong and gross. After cutting it half with my base it was a perfect balance of grape and watermelon.

Has anyone had luck with Flavourart's Watermelon. No matter what percentage I use it at I get very little watermelon flavor from it. It's one of the FA flavors that I somehow have 2 bottles of and no good recipes from using it yet.

1 points

by Botboy141over 10 years agoMixing like a mad man...

I get plenty of watermelon from it but it's more of a watermelon rind type of flavor. More realistic watermelon than anything else I have tried (maybe except for Flavorah). It's not bad, definitely weaker than most other FA flavors, but it does OK for me around 7%. It's not sweet like I'd like my watermelon to be though.

1 points

by Davesnothearover 10 years agoMixologist

I have gone as high as 7%. I do agree that it has a 'rindy' quality to it. Maybe I am expecting an 'in your face' flavor like the other FA flavors. It is also a rebottled batch I got from Ecigxpress so I am not 100% sure it's as good as an original bottle. I haven't even cracked open my flavorah watermelon yet; forgot about that one. Been so busy lately that I haven't had much time to experiment with all this flavors I have. Thank for the input. Will try FA Watermelon at 7%+.

i use FA Watermelon and TFA Watermelon together, pretty tasty!

1 points

by Davesnothearover 10 years agoMixologist

At what percentage would you use tfa with fa?

1 points

by prokreatover 10 years ago

i use TFA at 3.5% and FA at 1%, i use them with FA strawberry and TFA Strawberry Ripe and TFA Orange Creme. recipe is posted somewhere on here.

Was nearly to the end of some of my concentrates and thought id throw this together and its pretty damn great. The dragonfruit and pineapple are the base notes with the banana cream just creeping behind and on the exhale a really surprising but refreshing blackcurrant and watermelon finish. Just thought id share a happy accident.

  • 1% Blackcurrant (TFA)
  • 3% Golden pineapple (capella)
  • 6% Dragonfruit (TFA)
  • 2% Watermelon (TFA)
  • 6% DX banana cream (TFA) Forgot to mention 80vg/20pg at 3 mg is superb.
