When is a recipe done?
submitted over 10 years ago by prokreat

So how long does it take everyone to finish a recipe? Or does tweaking happen forever?

edit: so i realize this is mainly a issue for DIYer's and not people looking to start a juice line and get rich...

I ask myself this question a lot. I'll go from iteration to iteration and keep saying "it's good, but it could be better." For me, at least, I find that if (amongst my pile of mixes) there are juices that I consistently reach for when I'm deciding what I want to drip, I know I can probably stop trying to perfect it. That may not be the attitude that other's take, but it works for me. That said, there's no reason to ever stop tweaking if you don't want to. As long as you're having fun and not smoking analogs, that's all that matters (at least to me, anyways) .

Oh thats is a good question . The way I do it is the juice has to have four catogories .

  • Harshness and Smoothness :-)
  • Inhale
  • Exhale
  • After Taste

If all of these achived, then the juice is ready in my book. If you think of Strawberry for example, the amount of flavoring out there is outrages , from natural , sweet , wild and fresh , and a variation in between.

You could keep tweaking forever , just set a goal of what you are looking to get out of an ejuice and stop.

I started DIY because I want to clone my favorite Texas Fair ( its a strawberries and Cream ) that so far I couldn't find a match to from most ejuice vendors to my taste. I kept tweaking and twaking until version 49 and 150+ flavors !! Some 20-40 of them I will never use again . So, version 49 has 100% exact aroma, flavor needed to be a notch sweeter . So, version 50 will be my final version and should be officially cloned. And I promissed myself not to clone any juice ever.

It all boils down to the categories above and if you are willing to invest in flavoring. I hope I answered your question.

Ha, maybe why I never intend to ever clone a recipe. I'll be fine buying the ones I enjoy... That sounds maddening!

My issue is tweaking my own recipes and thinking how can I make this even better, can I? And sometimes I am talking making minute changes here.

I have this problem, where I finally decide that I'm happy with a particular recipe, and that there's no way I'm ever going to make this even better than it already is, I'm bored of it and don't wanna vape it anymore. I'll finish off that celebratory bottle and never make it again, it's only memory lies buried deep within my recipe calculator.

When I am satisfied vaping it and don't want to stop, I have a pretty good idea that the recipe is done. I'll vape it until I am not enjoying it as much, and move on to something else. When I get back to that recipe again, if I am enjoying it a ton again, I call it final and move on.

I would say I have 5 or 6 finished, sellable juices, and 2-4 in process that need a little work.

At some point the juice is done, I find when I overmess with my juice I end up in a constant struggle of ruining what I once had to find something that isn't there. Once I'm happy with a juice and can consistently find myself excited to vape it I force myself to quit messing with it.

But always I wonder, how much better can I make this juice?...

For me personally is a big "why not?" But ordering all the different flavorings chasing the Dragon can get out of hand quickly.

I tend to know right away. It doesn't happen often but once I try a juice the first time and realize I would pay for it, I know it's done. Sometimes it happens on a new recipe, sometimes it takes tons of revisions.

When I get tired of messing with it.

That said, i'll ocassionally make some of my better variations to keep from getting tired of that juice.

@SpRoOoOo. Do you think you could point we in that direction? Texas fair is my favorite e juice as well. But at 30$ a bottle ouch!! Iv bought strawberry flavoring from 3 and a few sweet creams and I still can't get it. Texas fair has that ripe strawberry flavor I can't recreate. Any advice would help thanks
