Hello,
I've been looking around at Ethyl Matol vs Stevia and have seen quite a bit of opinions from both sides. Some say stevia is better, although I also hear the argument that stevia caramelizes and ruins coils at high temps. Is this only in certain cases or is it a real danger of using stevia?
Also, if I'm looking for some Ethyl Maltol where's the best place to get crystalline form? I can only find it in liquid form and I would rather make my own dilution. Do they sell it in stores or should I be looking towards a more specialized site?
Thanks!
I'm no chemist but as I understand it, stevia is a sweetener and EM is a compound that imparts the taste of "sweet, burnt cotton sugar candy like, with jammy, strawberry notes," according to the TPA component list pages. IME, EM does isn't very sweet by itself. Use too much and you'll get a sharpness instead of over-sweet.
The two IMHO make very very poor substitutes for each other, not sure why the "vs."
I use one drop of this stuff (Better Stevia) to 10-15ml juice. Adds a noticeable but light stevia flavor and sweetness at this strength in plain VG with no flavoring. Didn't gunk until i added 3 drops per 10ml, max VG in dripper. This didn't ruin my coils but I did want to clean them with ISO.
EM and Stevia have different sweetness flavors. Stevia has a bitter honey flavor, EM has a toasted cotton candy flavor, in my taste opinion anyway.
I also use sucralose isolated from splenda(using ISO), but any sucralose would do. It is very very strong, adds a powdery sweetness, better for cakes and bakery flavors.

Every time I use EM I feel it tastes great for a day or three then my juice loses all flavor. Does that not happen to you guys?

Nope. I've been mixing with EM for four years and haven't seen that one.
You sure this isn't just that you're not letting your juice rest for a few days before calling it a final mix? My ADV needs to cure for four or five days before it's as good as it's going to get.
EM to me has a flatter, "sense" of sweet, but you don't really feel the sweetness on your tongue like Sucralose. Stevia provides that sweetness on your tongue but is not as sweet as sucralose. Stevia may also provide a flavor of its own depending on concentration and type used. I used SweetLeaf powder and diluted to 10% with PG. I stopped using it because it didn't impress me but I can see it working with some flavors.
