Orange Julius
submitted over 10 years ago by tournantMixologist

I'm toying with the idea of an orange julius flavor. Seems like the best combo would be orange cream, vanilla custard, some combo of dairy/creams, maybe a lil citric acid? I know o want some eggyness, hence the custard. I'm not teally looking to mimic the exact flavor of OJ, but something that evokes it and maybe sparkles it up a bit. Any thoughts, fellow mixturbators?

Here's my version. I had several iterations, and tweaked some percentages around from some of the recipes that I have seen, but tweaked it with some of the ingredients that I had on hand. This is the recipe I arrived at after several iterations. Everyone who has had the drink agreed that it tasted spot on.

Julius Sleazer Mixed at 85VG/15PG

FA Citrus Mix 0.5%
TFA Orange Cream 4%
FA Orange 0.5%
FA Vienna Cream 1%
TFA Sweet Cream 0.5%
FA Catalan Cream 1.5%
FA Custard - 1%
TFA EM - 2%
Koolada 10% - 1%

That looks promising.

Hmm, FA Custard definitely has the creamy tone that I was failing to get. I'll have to give that a go next time I mix it.

My version, the Orange Juliette:

TFA Orange - 8%

LB Pineapple Sherbert - 13%

The sherbert has the creamy custard base you're looking for, but the pineapple is very very light. :)

Who makes the flavorings for Liquid Barn?

That's a very good question. Ones like the pineapple sherbert and orange banana I think they mix themselves. But the single flavors, I have no idea. They're decent though.

FA Orange is the closest thing to straight orange juice.

The Zeitgeist is so weird! I was just mixing this up last night. I know that the powder they use has some eggyness to it, so my thought was to use FA meringue. I also used FLV Orange and CAP sweet tangerine. Added FA Vienna Cream to round it out. Still tweaking percentages but I will post a recipe once I nail things down.

OMG, been a long time since I've thought about Orange Julius. When I was a kid (80's) we had one in my local mall. Used to love that shit. Most unique orange type smoothie.

Really wish there was one in my area today. And, yeah, an OJ ejuice would be cool

Definitely keeping an eye on this thread. There's a juice I've been looking to make a clone of but have no idea where to start. This seems like it could be very close. I'm very interested in what you come up with!
