Medicine Flower - Five Flavors, First Impressions.. (Bonus Recipe!)
submitted over 10 years ago by LeGypsyMixologist

Hey guys, I just got my first round of Medicine Flower flavorings, I wanted to do a quick little review now that I've had a chance to mess with them.

I want to start by saying that I ordered three bottles and in the comments I requested a few samples (simply because I can't afford to try them all) and they obliged me with two extra 3ml samples! Shipping was also surprisingly prompt (Cali to Pennsylvania) and their customer service was quick to answer any questions.

Here's what I got, along with some thoughts and a general idea on percentage..

Strawberry - The realest, juiciest strawberry flavor I've ever tried. Mouth waters immediately just by smelling it. Seems to work good between 0.5-1% if you want it to take center-stage.

Blueberry - SUPER POTENT, the smell from the bottle is a little overwhelming. Definitely reminds me of a homemade blueberry preserve or jam. I've actually added about 2% TFA Blueberry (Wild) to my mixes with this to round it out. Err on the side of caution with this one - 0.3-0.7% Max

Plum - Oh my god this flavor is so much more than I had hoped it would be. Sweet, sugary, fresh plum - No raisiny/pruney taste like I was afraid of. I've used between 0.3-0.5% with great results, really helps other fruits pop.

Coconut (3ml Sample) - Upon smelling the bottle itself I was immediately turned off by that unmistakable 'sunscreen' smell. Kind of harsh if you use above 0.5%, however does add a nice creamy background note if you use it by the drop.

Mango (3ml Sample) - Smells great, like a ripe, freshly peeled mango... But I haven't found a good percentage for it yet. Also seems to produce a slight harshness around 0.5%. I'll report back with more once I tame this flavor.

Steeping: I've found these flavors need at least a day to settle in before you can make a fair judgement. I'm an impatient mixer so I tend to vape immediately then set aside for a day or two.

I'm using these flavors to make higher vg juices (90/10ish ratio) with great success! Here's a recipe I'm working on that you folks might enjoy:

Blu Bliss

MF Blueberry 0.7%

MF Coconut 1 Drop (Per 30ml)

TFA Pear 0.5%

TFA Vanilla Bean Gelato 3%

TFA DX Banana Cream 2%

TFA Blueberry (Wild) 2%

(I also use TFA Sweetener, 1-3% depending on your preference.)

Wow, those prices... your juice is premium already even if it doesn't taste that good.

Joking aside, thanks for the write up. I might consider giving them a try.

This was a tough weigh-in for me, too. At first glance, yeah, price seemed totally ridiculous.. But considering how much less I use and the quality of the flavors - It's totally worth it, imo. Especially if you can con them into giving you a few free samples. ;D

Aren't they like 20$ a bottle for like 15 ml? I guess this could be worth it if they are really that potent and it sounds like the flavors are excellent. I may consider these as well. Thanks for the write up.

If you could compare them in terms of potency to another flavor manufacturer who would it be? Just trying to get a sense of how strong they really are....

$22/15ml. I'm told the price cut is generous for larger quantities.. Group buy, anyone?

Hmm.. In terms of potency.. Here's how I'll best describe it:

To get TFA Blueberry to peak in a recipe, I usually use 4-7%

To get MF Blueberry to peak in a recipe, I've used 0.5-0.7%

So I guess that'd be about 10x the strength of your average PG-Based flavor.

I'd jump on a group buy for smaller quantities. Something like a sample pack.

Wow that sounds pretty good. What are these flavorings suspended in? Alcohol or PG?

Neither & nothing. There is no carrier solvent. Medicine Flower is pure aroma molecules.

Thanks for the reviews. I love the few that I have right now, and it's always good to see other peoples impressions on ones that I don't have.

What flavor is everyone most interested?

Vanilla is a staple for me. Banana is out of this world. Dark chocolate, hazelnut, Tobacco Absolute(!), plum as mentioned by OP, cabernet sauvignon mmmm. So many, it's really hard to pick favorites, but those are the first ones that come to mind.

Welcome aboard ;) Every flavor I have tried is so true and so delicious. I have about 2/3 of their collection. Haven't even mixed with all of them yet.

I strongly recommend their Tobacco Absolute. It is in the essential oils section I believe. I bought the 10g bottle, mixed it into a 10% VG solution, and use it around 3-4%. A little florally, but a very natural, true tobacco flavor. Add about 2-2.5% Vanilla, dash of caramel and you got yourself a great RY4. I need more recipes for it though, so any help would be appreciated ;)

I guess I'll have to finally start wading into the waters MF. Been putting it off for sometime due to B&M obligations but now that my former business partner and I have completed severing ties and I've got my store rebranded and back open and my website up I'll give it a crack. I'll contact MF on Monday for the info on the wholesale prices and such. I'll order some of the flavors but I may start with just one or two to breakdown and sell.

Edit: typos

Hey, I was wondering when I'd hear from you again. Sorry, I haven't been on this account lately. I usually log in under Cathousevapor. Yeah we've been playing with them a lot lately, loving it so far. We're converting all out premium liquid recipes to MF. I could use a little chat with you when you get a chance.
