We should include the resistance we are vaping at. I made a golden graham recipe from here (fucking phenomanal, by the way) and had it down pat. Problem was I was using a kanger evod. When I got my subtank and put it in there I thought I was going to die. Just too much flavor. So I motion that with each recipe, the submitter includes the ohm they are vaping it at. This will probably fall flat, but it's worth a try.
I would suggest wattage instead. I use the same build at different wattages and different airflow settings depending on what I feel like and some juices want low (read: 20w-30w) with airflow closed off and some want high (read: ~48w, as high as I normally go, though I occasionally venture into the ~55w range) with open airflow. Just my $0.02, there are variables at play beyond resistance, and if your resistance is really a variable, it's probably because you're using it to adjust your wattage anyway.
Agreed. I like OPs thought here, but 1.5 ohms at 100 watts is very different from 1.5 ohms at 10 watts. Just a quick line at the end of a new recipe post like "vaping a .5 ohm dual coil at ~40W" would be really beneficial for others to consider when mixing new recipes to meet their own preferences.
well so is the actual coil build. my go to fused clapton vape WAY different than a stock wrap, or even twisted for that matter.
Using wattage doesn't make as much sense as voltage. 4.2 volts is the same for me as it is for you. But you only occasionally go into the 55 watt range, whereas I am always over 55 watts, because I'm using a .3ohm coil and 60 watts drops me at ~4.2 volts. So if you used my wattage, you'd end up with a very burnt taste, whereas if I used your wattage, I'd end up not even getting a hit. But if you tell me 4.2 volts, that's all the info I need.
And of course, none of these take into account mech users, for whom resistance is about all they can put to good use.
Mech users can easily calculate wattage, the same way you just advocated using voltage. They should, in fact, be more familiar with it than most regulated users, since that's what they're affecting by altering resistance - lower resistance with fixed voltage means higher wattage.
That all being said, I do agree with you that more information than simple wattage needs to be shared, I'll start trying to post full build information ("dual 28g 3mm internal at ~0.8 ohms, this juice best at 6v/45w", for instance) if I post a juice or try a comparison.
I disagree about mech users knowing more about how to calcuate wattage. The ability to understand and solve resistive circuits doesn't seem to be a good assumption. In my experience most mech users think their battery doesn't have internal resistance, the battery doesn't sag under load, their mech and other components are also all lossless, etc. I can't count the number of posts that say "I'm vaping at X watts" which inevitably is assuming no voltage drop so P=(4.2*4.2)/R and is completely inflated due to all the losses they aren't understanding.
TLDR; IMO most mech users have no idea what wattage they are vaping at any given time.
I try to remember to when I do. I should be getting in my derringer and cigreen arrows rda's (thanks /r/smoggb !!!) and my freakshow mini very soon so I can test on more than my cigreen x v2 lol. I have a subtank mini but rarely use it as I much prefer dripping. My magma has fallen out of favor with me for some reason, and my trident v2 has been collecting dust for many months. The fogger v4 has as well due to it being annoying to re-wick.
Obviously some people might feel they cannot be bothered but something like how Teleos does it would be very helpful.
