Looking for a few new flavor ideas...
Not looking to sell them (no longer adding any new flavors to my companies juice line...) too much effort and the real job is about to get super real.
I'm thinking something fruity maybe...going back to my roots. Any weird thoughts you've had or even non-fruit related. A bizarre custard flavor, a crazy concoction of Rose, Blueberry and Menthol...I don't know nor do I care, just looking to mix some crap for fun!
Throw them ideas at me.
At the same time, if you're struggling with where to start when trying to come up with a flavor profile you have in mind, share it and I'll give ya a few pointers based on my experience and wealth of flavors sitting around before they go bad (most of my R&D stuff is about 6 months old at this point, I need to start using it up!).
Edit: No tobaccos or chocolates (can't stand that stuff and therefore haven't played with it much...pretty much anything else goes).
Green tea ice cream! I just can't get it to taste how I want. I think the tfa green tea flavor is lacking that matcha taste. I did my own extraction of green tea with matcha and the mix I made is currently steeping. I would much rather find a way to use commercially available flavorings though since extractions are a pain. I don't even know if my extraction is good yet either.
I am also trying to perfect a strawberry milkshake flavor but the recipes I have tried from others and my own are lacking that authentic taste.
Really, I think a good ice cream base would be helpful as well on both recipe.
Hmmm...trying to think of how to make an icecream base that isn't based around vanilla. Have a few ideas though, let me play with a couple things and I'll get back to you, might work for both the milkshake as well as the green tea ice cream.
Edit: My initial thought without mixing anything yet, my launching point would probably be something like:
- FLV Vanilla Custard @ 0.5-1% (a little custardy edge to the ice cream)
- TFA Vanilla Swirl @ 3-4% (a reasonable cream/ice cream type flavor without too much overwhelming vanilla)
- FA Fresh Cream @ 0.5-1.5%
- TFA Malted Milk or Dairy @ 0.1-1%
- 0.1-1% EM depending on the sweetness level you are going for (helps to add that sherbet/ice cream type of 'feel' IME)
I'm no expert on tea/herbal flavors but I have played with TFA Green Tea in the past. I definitely think I could make it work with these or perhaps some other hints/flavors used as additives (I don't have any other green tea flavors). The missing matcha flavor will definitely be the tough part and will require some more thinking and creativity. I'll take a look around a few smaller flavor vendors and see what I can find.
Try giving FW Tres Leches a go. It is supposed to be a mexican 3 milk cake flavor but it adds a nice creaminess at 3-4% and not so much cake flavor. I bought it on a whim and experimented with it in a few juices and it's actually one of the FW flavors I might actually buy again. I used it in my 'Milk of the Poppy' and it really seemed to give it a nice creamy undertone.
I have a friend who is dying to make this flavor. Any other suggestions for the green tea flavoring? I know I found green tea flavoring other than TFA but cant remember where now.
Anise in cereal recipes ;P Still waitin for you to try it haha
I'm going to try to work on some adjustments to the CK clone in the next week or two and will definitely make a variation including anise.
Would you mind a private collab on cereals? I want to clone looper but want to keep it private till it's finished, then post it. Made the mistake of posting things I thought were closer than actually were.
I share all with the public, just don't post it as a finished clone if it's not finished. I'm also terrible at cloning juices and don't usually try to. The adjustments I'm looking to make to the CK clone are to improve it for my tastes, not to get it closer to the original.
I've been thinking about making an anise/citrus mix, something along the lines of sedation or pluid, but am unsure of where to start. Do you have any recommendations for a good anise or absinthe flavor?
Cookie Dough - I'm currently working with a mixture of :
- TFA Vanilla Cupcake
- CAP Cake Batter
- FA Cookie
- CAP Sugar Cookie Edit - formatting
That looks like a good launching point but I'd probably forgo the TFA Vanilla Cupcake and use something more along the lines of FW Yellow Cake. If you check over on VU, I know HIC had a recipe for the trader joes cookie dough stuff. I wasn't a huge fan but IIRC it went something like:
- 1.25% FA Caramel
- 1% FA Vienna Cream
- 0.75% FA Cinnamon Ceylon
- 0.5% TFA Acetyl Pyrazine
- 0.25% TFA Brown Sugar Extra
- 0.25% TFA Holiday Spice
- 0.25% FA Clove
- 0.25% NF Organic Ginger
- 0.25% FA Vanilla Classic
- 0.25% FA Marzipan
- 0.25% FA Butterscotch
The clove and ginger made it seem off to me, the high use of AP worked surprisingly well but I think it could be halved, outside of that it was...interesting to say the least.
Mango sticky rice!
I've had plans to mess with it, even gotten good suggestions from /u/redruffensore, but I haven't gotten a chance yet.
Somewhat related (I think) but I'd love a mochi flavor. I've tried a few commercial juices but they usually have Bavarian Cream for some reason. :(
Looking for either a sticky rice or mochi flavor. Ultimately want a Daifuku or Dango recipe.
I don't even know what a mochi flavor would taste like. I'm trying to put into words what the flavor is and I don't have any idea.
Well, mochi is made by pounding cooked short-grain sticky rice and still (mostly) tastes like the rice that was started with. The white mochi is usually plain. Colored mochi can indicate a flavor, like green tea (green) or anko (red).
It's the cooked rice flavor that I have no idea how to achieve.
Going to pick up a bunch of flavors to make some cake flavors like Pineapple upside down cake and strawberry shortcakee ect.. So far I'm thinking Yellow cake, Vanilla cupcake, and Cream Cheese Icing and maybe alittle Cap Vanilla Custard. Anything you think i should add that would help make a good Cake base?
twix?
caramel seems underexplored/neglected, and candy bars seem like a logical step/jump from cereals
I'm.working an an caramel apple. Have the caramel side down pat but waiting on INW Apple tdm to get in stock. Ordered the FW red Apple too, just waiting on its delivery. Been using FA Apple and a touch of TFA green apple, which I just spilled all over me o.O... Hope it comes out in the wash.
Can you make anything good with Capella Grenadine? I got some thinking I could knock up some nice cocktails, but it makes everything taste awful.
I avoid most cherry flavors like the plague. A few Black Cherries are an exception but for the most part I just taste cough syrup regardless of percentage with all artificial cherry flavors. I don't even like Cherry Italian Ice straight out of the freezer due to that reminder though so maybe I just don't like fake cherry...Real cherries are the bomb though...
Proper Grenadine is supposed to be pomegranate. I've been trying to recreate a old favorite childhood summertime drink of mine which was a simple lemonade and grenadine mix. I've tried all sorts of mixes that should have the grenadine, cocktail recipe ideas and all sorts, and this grenadine flavor just comes out awful.
> As grenadine is subject to minimal regulation, its basic flavour profile can alternatively be obtained from a mixture of blackcurrant juice and other fruit juices with the blackcurrant flavour dominating.
Looks like Blackcurrant not pomegranate in a lot of stuff, however, traditional european grenadine appears to be pomegranate. I'd use TFA Pomegranate Deluxe if looking for the pomegranate variation, FA Blackcurrant if looking for the black current variation. Using them in combination with Sucralose (TFA Sweetener) a 2 to 1 flavor to sweetener ratio for TFA Pomegranate Deluxe and 1 to 1 ratio with FA Blackcurrant will likely yield the result you are looking for.
Shirley temple, blue raspberry icee, something fruity that's literally mouthwateringly juicy
Blue Raspberry Slurpee
Credit goes to /u/Raiden395 as this was the top voted recipe from the July 2014 recipe thread:
- 6% TFA Blueberry Wild
- 6% TFA Gummy Candy
- 4% TFA Citrus Punch
- 2% TFA Juicy Peach
- 1% TFA Pomegranate
- 0.5% TFA Sour
- 1% EM or TFA Cotton Candy
This was the recipe that made me want to ask you haha. This is good after like a 3 week steep but then I feel tastes worse after some more time. It has a wierd optimal window
Black cherry smoothie is the best flavor I've ever had and I wish I could make it myself. It's from freedom smoke usa
Still trying to make a Lemon Cake flavor maybe with some icing on top.
I just threw together some yellow cake, FE Lemon, Vienna cream, and a little FA custard. I don't know if it's going to be awful or ok. I'll find out after work o.O
- 6% FW Yellow Cake
- 6% FA Lemon Sicily (the spiciness in this should really really help compared to FE's...I don't see FE working too well here).
- 1-1.5% FA Custard
- 2% LA Cream Cheese Icing
At least that's where I'd start =)
Thanks for the suggestions! :)
I have all of those minus LA Cream Cheese Icing. Any ideas on a possible substitute for that?
I'm still new to the diy scene, but bottles are everywhere haha. So much fun. What about something like FE Lemon (or FA lemon sicily) and either TFA or CAP Vanilla Cupcake? CAP Cake batter and some TFA brown sugar. I've read that diy flavorshack has a a good pound cake flavor, never tried their stuff though.
man this is a good idea. i will have to think of something off the wall. just some ideas that are off my long recipe list of ideas to try (nothing crazy yet).
- blackberry apple upside down cake
- praline caramel bread (or pumpkin pecan caramel bread pudding)
- strawberry buttermilk sherbet
- peach & toasted almond ice cream
- banana cake w/ coconut cream cheese icing
this is nothing new, but i am still trying to come up with something that actually tastes like a hot fresh glazed doughnut. once the base is established, then you could modify the toppings and such for variations.
> blackberry apple upside down cake
I'd start with some of the better Pineapple Upside Down Cake recipes that are floating around and just sub in FA Blackberry and FA Fuji Apple (my preference), but this one should be relatively straight forward.
> praline caramel bread (or pumpkin pecan caramel bread pudding)
This is a bit out of my league in a sense as I haven't really played with praline or bread flavors too much. I can tell you, despite all the hate for FA Bread Crust that this stuff is phenomenal, you just have to use it at EXTREMELY low levels. Typically, diluted to 10%, then used at 0.1-0.3% in a recipe.
> strawberry buttermilk sherbet
My launching point would be my rainbow sherbet recipe but sub out the fruit. Here's where I would start:
- 2.3% FA Vienna Cream
- 0.7% FA Custard
- 1.0% Citric Acid (10%)
- 2.0% Sweetener or could try EM instead
- 1.0% TFA Butter (believe this contains diacetly, if they are even still offering it), may also want to add a little bit of FA Fresh Cream if necessary
- Add your favorite combination of strawberry to get the flavor how you want it
> peach & toasted almond ice cream
Start with your favorite ice cream base, add FA Almond (2%) and TFA Brown Sugar (0.5-2% based on your preference for toastedness), maybe a hint of FA Caramel, then add your favorite peach (I'd use FLV to start @ 2-3% and expand on it if necessary).
> banana cake w/ coconut cream cheese icing
- 4% FW Yellow Cake
- 4% LA Banana Cream
- 1% FLV Coconut
- 2-3% LA Cream Cheese Icing
Pretty straight forward with this one. At least that'd be my launching point.
Good ideas all around.
Thank you for starting points. I have bottles mixed and sitting a few days. Do you have any experience with taffy/starburst type flavors? I cannot figure out how to get that taffy type mouth feel and flavor. Maybe use LA salt water taffy? Or if you can think of a blend that mike work, I am all ears. Maybe pear and vanilla swirl? Not too sure.
I've been tinkering with a fig ice cream. It's a blend i certainly haven't come across yet. Here's a recipe I found for the real thing.
Still have a lot of work to do (nothing worth sharing at least), but it shows promise.
I haven't played with FA Fig enough to make any solid recommendations here yet but that's the flavor I'd start with for the fig. Here's a rough idea of where I'd start so you can compare it to where you are at (concept based off the recipe you provided/linked).
- 2-3% FA Fig
- 0.5% FA Maple
- 2% TFA Whipped Cream
- 0.5% FA Fresh Cream
- 2% FA Custard
- 0.5% FA Brandy
- Nut of your choice for garnish =)
Edit: FA Fig isn't too sweet so I'd probably be looking to add a sweetener here, either sucralose (TFA Sweetener) or EM could likely do the trick as long as you use it at the right percentage.
FA Fig is actually what prompted me to want to make it the star of a mix. I bought it on a whim (thinking it could be used for interesting background notes), but marveled at how realistic it tasted on its own. My latest mix is not too far off from your suggestion. I hadn't tried TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream in ages and thought I'd see how it worked out. In the end, not too well. I like the idea of adding custard and Fresh Cream, though. Here's what I have at the moment:
- 3% TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
- 1% FA Fresh Fig
- 0.5% FA Whipped Cream
- 0.5% FA Whiskey (I don't have brandy at the moment, but it'll be in my next order)
- 1% FA Maple Syrup
- 0.5% FA Nut Mix
I really appreciate your input. It definitely needs a sweetener as it stands. I do have sucralose, but I'm thinking I can get use some other flavoring to accomplish the same thing. I freaking love FW Hazelnut, so I think I'll try adding a dash of that to the mix. There's a butteryness to it that can really bring out the qualities of other flavors (chocolates especially).
I just purchased the whole Flavorah line. Was thinking of trying to expand upon Fizz's Nana cream since that has been my adv for.. Well since he unleashed it's awesomeness on us.
Was planning on using the same flavors plus an addition of flavorah flavors. Here is what I was thinking along the lines of:
- Flavorah Custard 1%
- Flavorah cocunut 1%
- Flavorah Banana 0.5%
- Flavorah Strawberry 2%
- TFA Strawberry 3%
- LA Banana Cream 3%
- TFA Dragon fruit 1%
Mind you this is just me going based off what others have said about the Flavorah flavors. Haven't received them yet to try this out. Was going kind of towards a Rainier type juice if you've ever had that from adiriondack. Will update once I receive my flavors and try it.
Tropical banana cream
Already done. I have a Banana Cream with Mango and Jackfruit that works quite well. It's for sale under the 'More Juice' category of my website and is reasonably popular. The recipe is below:
- 7% TFA Strawberry
- 2% Citric Acid (10%)
- 6% TFA Banana Cream
- 1% TFA Jackfruit
- 1% FA Mango
- 0.7% HS Banana
- 1% FA Fresh Cream
fruit torte if it's not "been there done that"
I want to make a e-liquid that tastes EXACTLY like a tutti fruitti jelly bean. I see TFA and FA have tutti frutti, but I'm not sure which to get, or if the single flavor would be enough to replicate all the flavors of the jellybean.
Been kicking around a couple recipes for a plum and pistachio mix. Nothing I would really consider good enough to share yet, but looking at a light background for the two. FA meringue is definitely going to be there, probably with tfa marshmallow as well. Trying to decide between a lemon or grapefruit for a bit of a sharper note to it, though. Possibly even pineapple.
Damn that sounds delicious. Makes me want to try:
- Pistachio ???
- 1.5% FA Meringue
- 4% TFA Plum
- 2% TFA Toasted Marshmallow
Unfortunately, I don't have any Pistachio ;-(
Current batch that I'm trying to leave alone for a few days is 5% pistachio, 4% plum, both tfa. Pistachio is a surprisingly versatile flavor. More generic nut when used as a background. Just need some marzipan to get an almond macaroon rounded out(toasted almond I'm pretty sure won't work right)
The next thing I want to work on is a minty orange flavor. I think I'm going to start with some combination of FA Orange, FA Mandarin, and FLV Creme de Menthe. The first mix I made (3% Creme de Menthe, 2.5% Orange) was good but the creme seriously overpowered the orange flavor, I think I'm going to drop it to like .5%.
I have a ton of new flavors that I don't really know what to do with. I'm slowly working through single flavor vapes to get a feel for what they taste like. Ones I really want to work with are FLV Lychee, FLV Cantaloupe, FLV Guava, FA Cookie, FA Concord Grape, FA White Peach... and so many more.
I tried something similar to this just recently.
- 2.5% FLV Vanilla Custard
- 0.5% FLV Creme de Menthe
- 2.0% FLV Orange Citrus
Honestly, I wasn't very impressed with my mix, the balance seemed to be there, but the combination of custard, mint and citrus (orange) didn't really work for my tastebuds. I understand it's counter-intuitive based on toothpaste/orange juice but also understand it's supposed to be a great combination, just not my thing.
Well personally, I get a definite chocolate taste from Creme de Menthe. If you're not into chocolates that could be part of it.
I think an orange mint could end up being really good, I'm just not sure how to go about it. I don't know if vanilla custard is the best option, honestly. IME things like custard and bavarian cream just don't work sometimes.
I live in Wisconsin near an Amish community. One of the bakeries makes a cinnamon roll with pecans, dripping with homemade buttery caramel. The roll has a subtle yeasty flavor.
Thanks Botboy!
I'm currently on the path to make a strawberry nesquik, I have limited flavours until I make my next order, so my experiments are lacking. Any advice would be awesome! Sorry for the brief, brief,I am currently away from my home and PC.
Hmmm. I've never had strawberry nesquick, is it chocolate + strawberry or just strawberry?
My starting point would be with FA Vienna Cream, FA Fresh Cream, Strawberry that most closely matches (no idea personally) and likely FA Cocoa for the chocolate if there is any. Shouldn't be much more complicated than that.
Its just strawberry. I'm from the uk so I am not sure if it is the same in other parts of the world. Maybe you know it as "quik"? It is a powder that is mixed with milk.
The mix I am trying to modify is a bav cream / whipped cream / custard / vanilla / bean gelato + strawberry ripe, I have the sweet strawberry but I find the ripe to be less candy and more creamy.
I'm looking to do something radical with Peanut Butter. Something different than the PB Cup, Grandmaster offshoots, and PB&J sandwich recipes. What's something that I don't usually associate with peanut butter that works really well with it?
Hmmmm....
I tried playing around with a peanut butter raspberry custard but that was a little awkward to taste. It's still on my list to develop an 'Ants on a Log' flavor (peanut butter, banana, raisin).
I've always liked peanut butter graham crackers with a little cinnamon. Maybe some Peanut Butter Apples as well.
Is there a decent celery flavor out there? Maybe peanut butter cucumber (this could actually be delicious now that I think about it)
