DIY juice always tasting "dry"
submitted over 10 years ago by heezy3991

No matter what I do my juices continually taste "dry" in the sense that the flavors aren't saturated as well as the vapor not being as moist as it is with a lot of store bought juices. Have any of you guys experienced this, and how have you remedied it?

Try 1% marshmallow.

Or 2% Distilled water. You might be surprised what it can do :)

Definitely try the Distilled water.. I was having the same dry problem but a little water helped big time.

Interesting. Have you tried saline solution?

I have not. I just started making my own juice this week though, so I haven't been able to mess around too much. Is saline solution a good way to go?

I'm new to DIY juice, and am experiencing the same issue. Hopefully someone has an answer for us.

I've had lots of success with saline and distilled water. I originally started putting 5% saline (0.9% solution) into my fruit mixes and it really helps things mellow out and feel more full.

However, juices with saline in the mix will makes your coils rust. I've started using 2.5% saline and 2.5% plain distilled water and I haven't noticed as much corrosion.

Ah! That explains the rust. Summumabich.

MTS Vape Wizard. It's like the rug from the Big Lebowski. It really ties the room together. I usually add a few drops of that into every blend I make. Does wonders.

Do you know what chemical they use? I like ordering most of my dilutants and chemical additives (besides flavors obv) from nudenic, and I'd be curious if they have a competing product.

Can you give us an example of what recipe you're working with

The ones currently are

Fruit Circles (TFA) 5% Lemon Meringue (Capella) 4% Bavarian Cream (LA) 2% Berry Crunch (TFA) 6%

The other one was:

Berry Crunch (TFA) 8% Butter Cream (FW) 5% Graham Cracker (TFA) 1%

Most (if not all) juices I mix have this issue.

Try adding some Marshmallow TFA and Hazelnut TFA, they add a very nice thickness and moist aspect to cereal blends. 1% MM and 1% hazelnut should do the trick. Bavarian Cream can also help

Also, what VG/PG ratio are you using?

I do have some TFA hazelnut, I'll try this. Thanks!

I've been mixing 70%VG/30%PG

Here's a tip. Throw out Fruit Circles and Berry Crunch. IMO they're terrible flavors. Even at 1% Fruit circles overpowers everything and turns your juice into a chemical bomb. Just my opinion on why your juices aren't good. Also, over flavoring is a huge issue. The more flavors I add the less % i put them. For example I have a 8 flavor juice, 1 flavor is at 6% the rest is at 1% or 0.5% leaving me under 15%. And some mixes I don't even go over 10%

You could try adding some .5-1% of actually fruit flavor to the recipes. I'd suggest blueberry for the berry crunch recipe and blueberry+lemon for the fruit circles. I find that straight fruit flavors make the final mix taste more juicy. Not to mention they kinda leave out the blueberry flavoring in berry crunch and fruit circles, so the end result may make the juice taste better in addition to making it a bit more "moist"

You could try some EM or MTS or Smooth, those will play with your perceptions a bit, I believe a lot of "house blends" tend to add one or more.

what is EM and MTS?

Ethyl Maltol, a flavor enhancer that tends to increase perception of sweetness but will also dull high notes in any quantity, large amounts will also make juice seem "ready" quicker/with less steeping but then will mute the flavors once it actually steeps.

More, Thick, Smooth or MTS Vape Wizard also rounds out flavors, increases mouthfeel, etc.

Easy on the Vape Wizard... more than a couple of drops per 30mL can definitely give you a cheesy, unpleasant undertone. Personally, I put FA Butter and FA Meringue in pretty much everything I make.

ethyl maltol, MTS is mellow thick and smooth by FlavorArt, or Perfumers Apprentice has Smooth (literally called smooth flavor)

You could try adding citric acid to your fruity eliquids. I think I've seen as a 1% mix in PG, add 1 drop per ml of final mix volume.

Try EM. I just made my first mix with it and its by far the most flavorful Ive made so far. Could be a coincidence but it seems to help a lot.

Otherwise try not to go above 15% flavors.

something interesting ive found... i started out making 2.5mL bottles using weight and all the proper ratios... all my flavours were flat, dry and bland.

take the exact same ratios but make 30mL and voila! yum! let me know if you try this and your results :)

I do mainly max vg blends and most of them are around 10% flavoring. Steeping is the key for me, i dont have many shake and vape recipes. What are your vg/pg ratios?
