I mixed this up today and thought I would share, especially since everyone has been so helpful! I've been lurking around here for a few months and have gotten really into DIY thanks to the wonderful information in this sub.
#Fraise Fraiche
4% Strawberry (TFA)
4% Strawberry Ripe (TFA)
3% Bavarian Cream (TFA)
2% Sweet Cream (TFA)
2% Vanillin (TFA)
2% Vanilla Custard (CAP v1)
1% Fresh Cream (FA)
1 drop coconut extra (TFA) per 30ml
I added about 4 drops EM for the 30ml, but you may not need it!
Edit: I see people are starting to post their setups when they post recipes. I've been doing this on a dual-coil Tugboat (0.3 ohms) atop a Siegelei 150 between 50-65 watts. I haven't tried it in my tank yet - too into my new RDA at the moment.
This looks goooood. I'm in the same boat as /u/chrononaut. Anyone have suggestions for a substitute for TFA vanillin? /u/returnity? /u/the_perrycox? /u/thirdworldorder? /u/drmclovens?
TFA Vanilla Swirl. Its Vanillin & Ethyl Vanillin.
DIYFlavorShack Holy Vanilla would be another good one. FA Vanilla Classic would probably work too.
Thank you! I have Vanilla Swirl, but I didn't expect it to actually be that close to Vanillin.
Yep, vanilla swirl works well in its place. I did a recipe like this a long while back, same percentage of the strawberries, same of the Bavarian and half the sweet cream, used 4 of vanilla Custard v1, 2 of vanilla swirl and 1 of French Vanilla deluxe. Came out delicious, but it needed something else. Probably the coconut. I'll need to go make it and see how it turns out now that it's been the better part of a year since my last attempt at it.
(and I'll probably try it with the flavorah vc instead. Need to start using it)
I had no idea! I have both. This is really helpful to know, thank you!
I just picked up 4 ounces of vanilla swirl & other ingredients so I can finally perfect my space jam venus clone. Been digging into MSDS' to learn how to blend it better; you're quite welcome! I'll check the MSDS for TFA Vanillin once I'm off mobile.
The one guy to tag when asking questions about vanillin is the resident Vanillinist, /u/clinodev!
Vanilla Swirl is a good replacement for 10% Vanillin. By taste (as opposed to analysis,) I think it's probably right around 10% each vanillin and e. vanillin, but you'd use less of those to replace it. Ethyl Maltol and the cream notes must bury ethyl vanillin pretty quickly (assuming that '>=10%' isn't a typo on the MSDS.) If you taste Vanilla Swirl straight from the bottle on your tounge, the "burning" flavor is the ethyl vanillin.
Tl;dr, Vanilla Swirl, like the other folks said, at the same percentage, ought to be fine. I actually suggested it to replace e vanillin in my RY4 blend in a Facebook group last night.
/u/returnity tagged me, but all I can really say is that other folks took care of you well before I got here. Vanilla Swirl for the win, more comments on it further down.
I'm using the exact same setup, coils and all!
Anyways, I mixed this up with TFA Vanilla Swirl instead of Vanillin, went .7 for Coconut Extra, and skipped the EM. Quite a good shake and vape, but I'll check back on it in a few days.
Thanks for sharing!
Please remember to share this in the April Recipe Thread so it doesn't disappear into the ether.
Thanks for sharing your recipe :-)
Shit, this looks nice. I have all of them except for Vanillin. Wonder if I can sub in some Vanilla Classic (FA) or something instead.
Thank you for sharing!
I haven't had Vanilla Classic, but knowing FA, I bet it's great. I've recently started adding more FA flavours to my collection, and they really are great. Their pear in particular I find to be approximately 82783838 times better than TFA's.
Just an update! Looks like I was out of Strawberry Ripe as well so I subbed in Sweet Strawberry (CAP) and Vanilla Classic (FA) for the Vanillin. Really good stuff though!
I'll be sure to give it another run when I pick up the other two flavors I didn't have, but I'm really enjoying this.
I'm very glad to hear it! I like Sweet Strawberry and would think it would be good in there - my only complaint about it is that it's a little more candyish and I was going for that strawberries-dipped-in-fresh-cream thing. I bet Sweet Strawberry would still be yummy though!
So I saved this recipe a while ago, finally mixed it up like ten minutes ago. It tastes amazing, super creamy. But I'm getting very little strawberry taste unfortunately (.4 ohm twisted coil build on a mech in an rda). Probably going to take the creams and make a Blueberry variety with flv Blueberry. Might just add in extra strawberries after a week if the fruits don't come through with steeping/hot water baths. Either way, thanks for an amazing recipe! Even if it's not as fruity as I like I'll tweak it.
Edit: I used caps v2 custard because that's all I have. Also have flv vanilla custard which I might sub in next time.
Thanks for your comments! I get a lot of Strawberry from plain TFA Strawberry but not as much from Strawberry Ripe, so you might consider upping that part. Strawberry seems to be one of those things that can be difficult to taste for some people, and for me it's the flavor that fades the quickest if I'm doing it a lot.
Yeah I think I'm just going to add more right now while it's still fresh. This is the third strawberries and cream I've mixed up with my new supplies and so far it's the best. Definitely going to have to make a Blueberry variety eventually.
Hi /u/BoneyNicole
Many thanks for sharing this recipe! After having some really bad experiences with pre made "strawberry milkshake" concentrate that just tasted like chemicals even after multiple water baths I stumbled on this thread.
Literally just knocked this up 15 mins ago, but used TFA French Vanilla instead of Vanillin as it wasn't in stock. And left out the Fresh Cream, EM and coconut.
Very nice shake and vape! no chemical taste at all, incredibly creamy vape (although the strawberry seems a bit lost at the moment, sometimes I can taste it, other times not, but I'm hoping some steeping will help here).
The only downside I've noticed so far is the exhale and after taste seems to be purely the Vanilla Custard. Again something I'm hoping some steepage may resolve.. 30ml bottle sat in water bath as I type.
Am looking forward to sampling this again soon :-D :-D
Cheers
